Chinese skating news & social media updates pt. 5, 2023 onwards

Is the 焦虑 here the same as the mental health condition, or just a casual use of the word? He says he lost hair over it, and that he got the kitten to help relieve it, so am wondering.

Any news on the Chinese team for 4CCs? I think they're the last big team we're waiting to hear about (we'll, aside from half the Canadian team, lol).

Not the team, but found this 'gossip' funny in light of how much chinese fans complain about not having enough funds for anything.

After Shanghai trophy and COC, many are quite curious about the opening ceremony and how much it was spent. And the 4cc gives us an answer:

Shanghai's sports bureau seems to have spent a whooping amount of $6 million rmb (roughly 830k usd) alone for the opening ceremony (not mentioning the few tens of millions spent on athlete/judge hotel). Well, let's look forward to the opening ceremony aha~~~

Hopefully, next season, they can spend a bit more on skaters (as much as I've enjoyed the tacky intros and decoration lol).

Link? (can't recall which one this is)

Happy to see Li/Wang getting an international senior opportunity, especially having missed 4CC last season.
It was posted on their xiaohongshu briefly before being deleted. There's nothing super surprising though, most are according to the results of nationals, with the exception of those who WD from nats (Wang/Zhu, in this case there's no other pair with mins so makes sense the third slot went to them). The only ? is ice dance where only 2 teams with mins went to nats and it appears that Wang/Liu AGAIN aren't planning to compete...

Yeah the Li/Wang one surprised me, the others are pretty much expected based off results/byes. Would love some confirmation! They're deserving.

This is a fact, not just a gossip - the official bid acceptance letter is here: https://www.ccgp.gov.cn/cggg/dfgg/zbgg/202401/t20240104_21383863.htm

Juss Sports is the organizer for major sports events in Shanghai, including tennis, Formula One etc.

Yeah they posted a screenshot of this later actually! Which celebs do you guys expect?

So would you guys say skating is picking up steam in China? heh. 🕳️ fan conspiracy theories are 'primary school students are being forced to attend, primary school students are being forced to watch, jin boyang's management company is attempting to convert 🕳️ fans into jin's/skating fans (lol)', so I'm curious for sane perspectives on it. Especially because when I do open tieba baidu what I get is this pile of trash on the front page: https://tieba.baidu.com/p/8851533279 so no interest in reading further, and douban is basically a computer virus.

Juss Sports' app crashed soon after the F1 Chinese GP tickets went on sale yesterday. Don't think FS can ever reach this level of popularity in China.
I don't expect it to, I don't think a niche sport can ever do that. I think it's delusional to assume it's going to reach a national sport level visibility like in Russia - and in other countries (USA, Japan) it mostly depends on 'stars' and the plagues some of them bring in. But it seems to me it's clearly gaining visibility, so I am asking if I'm right there.

I think the presence is growing but most of the new fans follow the stars (Boyang, Yuzuru, Russian girls, S/H etc.) not the sport. Not saying there's anything wrong with that, though, and I expect FS to gain even more visibility with more events being held in China.

I know Fanyus were not speaking in good faith when they talked about "primary students being forced to attend events" etc., but it's true that event organizers gave free tickets out at both CoC and GPF.

Prior to 2018 the Figure Skating Tieba used to be a good forum. I mean there were trolls, fan wars and sh!t posts too but there were also quite some people who came there to discuss the sport itself in good faith. Now it's a pure cesspit where the vast majority of posts read like parodies.

Right now unfortunately it seems that there won't be any official streaming for Junior Section:(. We can only hope some fans will be there to film something.

New topic: Why China's Fed refuses to use its resources to promote its own skaters and instead decided to promote 🕳️ leading up to Beijing and is wasting money on Russian Chemistry Vacuum right now.

I don’t think this is the doing of China’s Fed. They will be in an ice show next week in China, along with many Russian skaters. So this is the promotion for that show.

Please tell me what the black hole emoji means.
It's the nickname for Hanyu.

And I see my previous post has been deleted - I apologize if it was offensive (not the comment about chinese fanyus though - idc about their irrelevant feelings). But I don't really see why Russian skaters need to be invited to China. Maybe there are political reasons behind it, but if not, then why can't they give their own skaters these opportunities? They are better.

🥈 Shiqi Gao FS (121.47): https://weibo.com/6290293780/NCBwtvdY4
🥇 Yihan Wang FS (128.61): https://weibo.com/6290293780/NCBzijrAD

The case for Yihan going to WJC is even stronger now since she beat Ruotang by over 30 points across 2 programs.

Coaches got a medal too!

Sadly Tonghe's injury doesn't look good - just saw a photo of him in a wheelchair on Weibo. Wonder if he will still go to YOG...

... Well now surely this is a strong case for them to be sent to junior worlds... I know the selection criteria are different but... silly, in this case.

Well rumor says now China may decide not to send anyone to JW this year…

Per his Weibo he is going…
