Dalilah Muhammad misses the final in the women's 400m hurdles - seems like a number of top athletes are missing finals here - not sure if it's a not prepared, injured, or just a changing of the guard in these events as the Olympics approach again.
The commentators said and she indicated in the post-race interview, she's been sick and not able to train to her fullest. She said something like she was there on a hope and a prayer, but she's ready to get rested up and focus on a healthy 2024 season. The commentators mentioned she had covid twice and that's impacted her training.
I've enjoyed watching the Peacock streams and seen some great performances.
The best was when the commentators were saying there is no way Femke Bol is caught in the 4X400 relay, the US has to get a big lead on the third leg, and kept gushing over how it was all over. It was sad to see her face-plant (ouch!), but the race isn't over until you cross the finish line.
The 'experts' also kept saying, you don't want to have your best times in the heats, save something for the finals. Then they were critical of the USA men in the 800, saying why would you not race your best and leave it to chance to get a little q and not auto-qualify. I know they want to have it both ways, but it's funny sometimes.
