It should be easy enough to replace Grassl for GPdF with another Euro-based man... Shmuratko, plus Starostin & Guarino Sabate (move up to 1st 10 alts to replace Kataise & Yoshioka).

Rooting for Shmuratko, personally, since injury forced him to WD last season.

For NHK - personally, I'm rooting for Gorodnitsky since he's skated very well this season and deserves a 2nd.

Men 1-10
Kataise (GPdF)
Gorodnitsky (SCI)
Naumov (SkAm)
Orzel (SCI)
Kapeikis (SCI)
Gogolev (SkAm)
Broussard (CoC)
Shmuratko
Chiu (SCI)
Yoshioka (SkAm)

Men 11-20
Starostin
Guarino Sabate
Miyake
Newnham
Samoilov
A Selevko
Torgashev (SkAm)
Levandi (Espoo)
Zandron
Le May (GPdF)

Men 21-27
Lewton Brain
Maierhofer
K Witkowski
Bralin
Y Cha
Kessler
Honda
As it turns out, Goridnitsky’s family might not want him travelling internationally now. It’s dangerous. It might be the same scenario for T/K at Junior Grand Prix Final.

McNamara and Spiridonov got the NHK Trophy spot.
Good. They are the only top 24 team that did not receive both spots initially, and only the open U.S. berth in France or one at NHK was available for an American team.

Smart and Dieck got that GPdF spot.
Also good. France also pulling from the top of the list both a. continues their focus on a high-quality field this season, which is so nice to see & not something we've been able to count on with the country's dance invites in the past. Plus, it means NHK isn't the only host nation filling dance slots from the top of the list.

----

Sad to hear about Hawayek & Baker. (The fact that they weren't on the Finlandia list seemed ominous). Also sorry to hear about Chan & Howe. I hope both teams are on the mend.

Lots of ❤️ to the Israeli athletes right now.

Late in the day for a COC replacement, I’d imagine it will be a South Korean if there is one (Japan is already maxed out).
There aren't any South Korean women on the Alternates list, and based on the replacement that the CFSA chose for Chan/Howe (Valesi/Piazza) - they will choose the weakest woman they can, so as to ensure someone not Chinese finishes last. I predict Meite or van Zundert...

As far as NHK - Kurakova is popular enough in Japan that I could see the JSF inviting her.

Women 1-10
Kurakova (SkAm)
Ziegler (NHK)
Gutmann (SCI)
Serna (GPdF)
Matsuike (SCI)
Meite (SCI)
Harrell
van Zundert (NHK)
Hilmer
Mikutina

Women 11-20
Seo (SkAm)
Ruiter (SCI)
Daleman
Dupuis (SCI)
Miclette
Paganini
Sauter
Kiibus
Lang
Isaev

I would guess maybe Harrell or Hilmer - not major threats to the Chinese ladies, and would be replacing a USA skater. (I know that's not how it works). Or maybe a Euro-based skater for cheaper airfare.

Yes, well, Meite is even less of a technical threat, based on what we saw at SCI.
I guess I just don’t see China wanting someone there with such a free speech program. Maybe it’s ok because it’s against what is going on in the US. I guess we will find out soon.

None of the Chinese women are medal contenders (unlike in pairs, at least prospectively). I'm not convinced the fed will particularly care about competitiveness when making a call for a replacement.
