2023-24 ISU Grand Prix Assignments & projected alternates

He Zhang is out of Cup of China and replaced by Juwen Xu.

CoC's Weibo post: https://weibo.com/1805036724/NnIi9f0Bp

Entry list update: https://results.isu.org/events/gpchn2023_Men.htm
How did he do at the 5th stage? Because based off club league finals, looks like it should have gone to Zhiming?

@Sylvia apparently, he was also at the 2020 Cup of China (the one during the pandemic, where they only fielded local skaters). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WY9_nWkzYf0&ab_channel=SkatingISU

They'll wind up at the bottom of the Alts List.

I really can't see any fed adding them ahead of pretty much any other team in the Top 10. If USFS wasn't willing to fly in BecGuar for a 2nd spot in pairs, there's no way any other host fed except MAYBE the CFSF or JSF are going to a team that could challenge one of their mid-tier teams.
Never underestimate Eteri....

The 5th Inter-club League is a CoC selection event (the Final is not) - and Juwen finished 3rd, only 0.06 behind He.

Final (Top 10)

1 Dawei Dai 224.53
2 He Zhang 191.81
3 Juwen Xu 191.75

I'm aware. And yet it seems delusional to set it up this way, since Xu lost to Peng by around 20 points in the final. But at least they adhered to their own rules.

7.6 Replacements
It is mandatory that an Organizing ISU Member replaces any Pair who withdraws from the event with an
alternate up to fourteen (14) days prior to the Team Leaders Meeting for that event.

For a Women or Men Skater, up to fourteen (14) days prior to the Team Leaders Meeting for that event, it is
voluntary that an Organizing ISU Member replaces any Skater who withdraws from the event who would be
the 11th or 12th entry but must replace with an alternate any Skater who withdraws if fewer than 10 entries
remain.
For an Ice Dance couple, up to fourteen (14) days prior to the draw for that event, it is voluntary that a host
country replaces any Ice Dance couple who withdraws from the event who would be the 9th or 10th entry but
must replace any Dance couple who withdraws with an alternate couple if fewer than 8 entries remain.
At the fourteen-day mark, consideration will be given by the ISU Grand Prix Coordination Group to leaving a
position vacant because of visa requirements or unduly high travel costs that would be incurred by the
Organizing ISU Member.

7 pairs are listed in the Skate America practice groups/music rotation for Thursday, Oct. 19 that was just published today: https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/th...ica-in-allen-texas.110808/page-6#post-6482519

From a cynical strategic standpoint, H/B’s withdrawal removes L/B’s main potential competition for the bronze medal. I would not expect the FFSG to replace them with a team like Davis & Smolkin that has clear podium ambitions and a lot of political muscle behind them.

One of the recently promoted junior teams (Bashynska & Beaumont or Bekker & Hernandez) or Smart & Dieck, who share coaches with L/B, make more sense.

Fabbri/Ayer and Harris/Chan also fit that criteria.

My bet would be one of the 3 IAM teams since the only change necessary on the tickets is a name change from Montreal to Paris.

As the cheerleader for British ice dance… I hope it’s Orihara/Pirinen. Sorry Bekker/Hernandez, but O/P have two great programmes and their skating has really stepped up a gear since last season.

Also sad for H/B. I really hope they’re being just being cautious and taking care of themselves but it feels a little ominous.

Well damn. :fragile:
Double that. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. That's why I asked if it was new, so I wouldn't get yelled at that it was discussed earlier on page 3, post 43958739045 of the thread.

Seriously bummed for them and hope they just wanted a little more time to prepare. Ice Dancing is so tough to break through and there are so many top tier, second tier, third tier teams battling for position.
