2015 - 2016 TV Season

Isn't he the guy who won the Grammy last year for album of the year? :)
If we've time traveled back to 1977, may-be! He co-wrote Evergreen with Barbra Streisand and they got nominated for an Oscar that year.

Hey, I'm old. He wrote for the Carpenters and Neil Diamond and other people back when music was good. I wonder if he's gotten a lifetime achievement award yet.

Is it too early for a reminder that Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas is on ABC Family on ...

One of my favourite Christmas shows of all time. (I think you and I may have had this conversation before ...)

I don't get ABC Family, but that's okay: I have it on DVD. (Which is good, since the one time it aired on CBC in a digital age and I recorded it ... they made cuts. Grrr!)

I echo Susan's sentiment: It really is very special.

New season of Doc Martin starts on PBS this Thursday (at least on the Seattle affiliate). Didn't see it mentioned earlier.

I think the series has really run its course and should have ended with season 5, but season 6 was such a non-ending ending they really need to go back and tie up some storylines.

Anyone here finish watching Jessica Jones? I was all into it at the beginning but I'm now up to episode 10 and the last 3 have been a struggle. I feel the series should've been shorter (8 eps would've been great) and they're just going in circles now, upping the ante and getting darker for nothing. Is it worth watching the last 3? Or maybe just the finale?

I watched Jessica Jones and thought it was quite good. My favorite thing about the show was the pacing. It was paced incredibly well...up until about episode 10. I completely agree with you. At about that point it was really clear where everything was heading and how it would end, they could have stopped at episode 10 or 11 and the show wouldn't have suffered a bit for it. It is a shame because like I said before, I thought the pacing up until that point was so good. Tennant was an amazing villain. I still recommend it, you could practically just skip to episode 13 and watch how it ends if you want. I don't think you would miss much.

Holy moley, I was thinking about this later. They DID win the Academy Award for the theme from A Star Is Born. I only just about wore out the album.

Yeah, I probably mentioned that I hadn't seen it on t.v. for 20 years. Oh, man, you just made me realize it's going to be on a channel with a bunch of COMMERCIALS. They'll probably cut stuff to make room. That's going to ruin it. damn damn damn

I was thinking about this later. I think I taped it when I was married and we had HBO (no commercials) and a VCR. One of the other things on the tape is the 20th anniversary show of All My Children, which was 1990.

And I don't have a DVD player. (I've got hours of stuff saved on the DVR that I need to get around to watching.)

I finished the last of the 13 episodes last night. I really enjoyed the series from start to end. While I agree the series could have been shorter, the last 3 episodes were still good and introduces a character we've already seen in Daredevil. Can't wait for "The Defenders" to premiere. Netflix is a good fit for a more "adult" version of the Marvel comics.

Loved Jessica Jones! Towards the end it did feel a bit forced but still very good. I am rrrrrreally looking forward to Luke Care, Iron Fist and The Defenders! :D That said I am also enjoying Supergirl with it's much more brighter and less gloomier style. There are more than enough deep dark, depressing, and moody tv shows around.

Is anyone watching Superstore? I caught it by accident tonight and was cracking up, plus I adore America Ferrara.

Shoot, I missed it. I'll check to see if it's on demand. (I'm a big America Ferrara fan too.)

But it looks like there are no more new episodes til the new year. That's an odd way to schedule things ...

Does it stand on its own for someone who doesn't follow Marvel comics at all?

Yes. And I really never followed "Jessica Jones" much in the comics. It was better than I expected. Very easy to follow if you like private eye series.

I also like that she's not "rich" and a good private investigator. Krysten Ritter is perfectly cast. The whole cast is great.

Did anyone watch Madam Secretary last night? I sure hope they're not setting up Russel for a heart-attack or anything. He's kind of grown on me and I think they've had enough staff turn-over. (CIA director last season and the National Security Advisor twice in one season, so I really hope there isn't a new Chief of Staff coming any time soon)
Of course he's going to have a heart attack - or some sort of issue. I don't know that it will mean he leaves the show. It's probably integral to one of the plot lines.

It must have been the winter finale.

It sounds like this was more of a "preview" even though they were technically the first full episodes. It did well in the ratings so that is good. :)

I'm hoping then that they'll repeat them, coz I checked On Demand and no dice. (If someone spots a repeat please let me know!)

Anyone know when Person of Interest, Season 4, will be available on Netflix?

I read in the comments section somewhere that the show's Netflix release has been indefinitely postponed because of some disagreement between CBS and someone else. (Can't remember who) Season 5 will be released summer 2016 on CBS.

I've only watched two of the movies, and haven't seen the other TV shows or read the comics, but I thought that this series was excellent. Therefore, I vote for it being able to stand on its own. In many ways, the show made me think of an adult Veronica Mars, though the source material pre-dated Veronica.

To respond to the pacing issue, it's interesting that people here struggled around episode 10 because I had the opposite problem. Usually I can binge watch many episodes in a row but this series was so intense (but a good intense!) that I could only handle about an episode and a half at a time. I was only able to binge episodes 10-13. Then again, maybe that's a sign that those episodes weren't as good, so who knows!

I still like to watch the silly Christmas specials every year (like Rudolph, etc.). I watched The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (cartoon one) the other night and I haven't seen that one in a few years. It seemed .... odd somehow. I mean I've watched those things for years, I pretty much know them by heart, but The Grinch is not how I remember it. Did they change it? I can't explain it, but it was just ..... I don't know .... not right! There was something about it that seemed like it was changed?
