Royalty Thread #16: the best of times, the worst of times

I think the color washes her out, and she makes more sense as a brunette. I also think some of the hair looks like extensions.
Now that makes sense. Because it's the lower part that looks fake not the stuff that goes right into her head.

And I see people calling it blonde in some pics. But in other pics, it's just light brown. At least, when my hair darkened to that color, people told me I wasn't a blonde.

I don’t love the colour, but it’s fine and why not try something different? But to me it’s the volume and texture that’s off, it’s just too big and poofy and messy. I guess it makes sense if she has some new extensions … I’ve heard before that she wears them, but I don’t know enough about hair to be able to tell. I have wondered over the last year about her hair and the chemo, I know not all formulations of chemo make you lose your hair, but my husband is currently undergoing a chemo that isn’t supposed to make him lose his hair and his is still thinning and changing (weird spots where there never used to be weird spots, etc). Hers remained so lustrous and thick all along, I wondered if she was using extensions or wigs. (I wouldn’t blame her, honestly, someone who is so judged by her appearance every time she leaves the house.)

I think she looks fine. Her hair is gorgeous in its natural color, but she's been through a lot. Sometimes it's just fun to try something new with your hair when life is tumultuous. I'm not gonna sit here and judge someone who is experimenting, knowing my past. (My poor hair 🤣)

I looks like a questionable wig. I like the theory that her glam budget has been cut down by Charles or William.

The Duchess of Kent has died. She is probably most remembered for comforting the losing Ladies' Finalist and eventual Champion Jana Novotna at Wimbledon.

It's interesting that she used to take public transportation on a regular basis. I remember that Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone used to do so too.

I think the color is hideous on her. I don't think it could be from chemo because she reportedly had that last year & she had her regular hair after that. Unless the brown hair was a wig. But I understand wanting to do something new because when I had my 2nd cancer I went out & got a tattoo. I wonder what her kids think. My mother was a very pretty woman & if she did something that wasn't flattering I wouldn't have liked it.

Not difficult to cover grey hair every 6 weeks when you have the $$, time and access to the best hair stylists in the world.

There comes a time though, when you have darker brown hair, that the grey roots start appearing after about 3 weeks ( if you are lucky) and you start thinking about going a bit lighter so you don't have to make a trip every three weeks. This coming from someone who decided with her hairdresser today to go one tone lighter and start that process :)

Yup. I’m lighter and bronzier than my natural medium brown. So I can go 4-5 weeks between color.

That’s when you use this. :40beers:

I spent 2.5 hours today at the hairdressers getting root touch up and highlights.

I love it but not the price tag.

I e been told by everyone that I will not look good grey, given my skin tone and hair texture. I refuse however to still be dying my hair in my 90s like my mom if I make it that far. So somewhere between 70 and 90 I’ll stop.

I prefer her in brunette hair but I still think the blond was a wig.

You can get really authentic looking (with a real looking scalp) high end wigs made with human hair these days that are impossible to tell from real hair.

Many celebrities use them regularly.

Kate's hair was still long yesterday. She was just wearing it pulled back. It's the end of summer and Kate is known the love the outdoors so it's possible her lighter hair is from the being outdoors so much. The poofy-ness at the earlier engagement could have been from humidity due to the rain that fell during the event. Lighting was also different. The photos from the earlier engagement were taken outdoors earlier in the day. Yesterday's photos were from later in the day and she was sitting in a stadium under shelter.

When I went looking for a wig to use through chemo, I couldn't wrap my mind around the ones made from real human hair. They creeper me out too much to even try on. It was like wearing someone else's skin. Just couldn't do it.

I let my hair go during Covid shut down from March 13th, 2020 to March 28th, 2021.

It's now completely white, but with a pretty sheen to it. I look back on pictures from 7-15 years ago and think how horrible the color was.

We did a tour of Hillsborough Castle today, there is a really sweet photo of Charles holding Louis

I know in the Ultra-Orthodox community, it's become quite a controversy whether wigs now look "too nice." There is actually a push in some of the enclaves for women to wear cloth hair coverings rather than wigs.

I'm not sure why you reference Ultra Orthodox community. I worked in Oncology in the 70's and 80's. We encouraged young girls and women to wear whatever head dress they preferred. Some often said wigs were too hot or slid and much preferred scarves

I don't think it's driven by religion

It's not related to Kate, just saying wig technology has really advanced.

Only the very, very extreme ones. It’s not common even amongst the standard ultra-orthodox
