U.S. Pairs 2021-22 season - News & Updates, Part X

Are you implying that it is a case of the crud? Because I'm not seeing that these two things are necessarily linked. K/F had to fly to Nashville and would have needed a negative PCR test to fly from LA.

Yes, the negative PCR within 24 hours and they've already been in Nashville for at least 48 hours.

As someone who flew in from LA as well for Nationals, I can confirm that these requirements were not enforced at all while I was there. Furthermore she's already been in Nashville for a while.

Fans like me and reporters highly suspected this morning that Alexa had COVID and it was clear that Meno/Sand knew of a potential infection when they were seen triple masked in the K&C. Completely irresponsible behavior all around.

She's been in Nashville since Monday, right? That's two days, hardly "a while".
Fans like me and reporters highly suspected this morning that Alexa had ********* and it was clear that Meno/Sand knew of a potential infection when they were seen triple masked in the K&C. Completely irresponsible behavior all around.
Why the suspicion, other than Meno/Sand were triple-masked? If she was in the arena with Chris during junior pairs but Brandon was nowhere to be seen, then why suspect Alexa was infected?

I was fixated on Yesterdays Pairs session where Alexa was the only one on the rink with a mask on. I thought that was thoughtful of her but I found it was weird that she would have one on and not Brandon… And then watching the ladies practices just now a lot of people had a mask so I just thought maybe there was nothing to it then. But who knows

Even if neither were infected at time of testing, they would all be considered a high risk exposure. Considering the high transmissibility of the variant, it was irresponsible of Alexa at least to have attended and doubly so for Meno/Sand in the athlete K&C area.

Ok, here is the official word via Hersh:

Official: Brandon Frazier tested positive for Covid, knocking him and partner Alexa Knierim, defending US pairs champs, out of #USChamps22

BTW, Alexa was fully vaxxed and had just been boostered, mid-December

And it's now nearly 72 hours following a trip in an enclosed flying tube with hundreds of passengers around the country and world who might have not been tested. Plenty of incubation time there.

Why the suspicion--how about hearing the excessive coughing on the practice ice and her wearing a mask? If it was Brandon on the other hand, it would be even more irresponsible considering the fact that he wasn't wearing a mask at all. IMO, if it makes you feel better I can just say Alexa/Brandon--I didn't mean to exactly pin it on her but regardless of who, BOTH should NOT have been in the arena even if only one tested positive because everyone in close contact including their coaches should be isolating right now.

But it's the USFS and they're not even pretending to have a bubble anymore...

You called her out by name so as NOT to pin it on her? Interesting rhetorical technique.

No you don’t need a negative Covid test to fly from Los Angeles to Nashville. It’s not an international flight.

I would link the information on the two on the risk of flying on planes but I’m tired of doing it. Let’s just say your risk is not the plane your risk is the grocery store.

Coughing doesn't imply C19 anymore than it implies a basic cold.

And, by your logic, should all of the SCOB skaters be presumed to have C19 also since they've been wearing masks during their practices, including their program run-throughs?

I will grant you that she (and probably Chris, as her spouse) should not have been at the arena today, even if they were merely waiting on Brandon's test results to come back. I'm not sure that restricting Meno & Sand from the arena is feasible since they have so many junior and senior pairs teams that they are coaching, though I suppose they could have found someone to assist with the coaching duties until they at least had negative tests come back.

Maybe the USFS is just acknowledging what so many of us have already figured out... You can get Omicron anywhere, from anyone, and it's probably going to be a mild case if you're vaccinated. At least they are still making the teams/skaters withdraw if they do test positive.

Chris was in the arena as a coach for the junior pairs...
