I was expecting something different so I’m disappointed. That song Evan and Maddie are using is certainly on brand for Gadbois though. Couldn’t find a more Gadbois song.
Wow. I thought they would return that first FD they did with Gadbois. It ended with a kiss and Chock wore a really beautiful gold dress. It was just a lovely program that hadn't had time to gel. Loved it. Hopefully though we're wrong about the FD choice. It couldn't be more bland and generic. They might as well have returned to Igor and put in some power and speed. Because as is it's rather tame.
EDIT: Are they both struggling with significant injuries?

And here I was thinking it's as if Igor tried to repackage Dubrueil/Lauzon's "At Last" FD. It's just so cloying.
Last season they seemed to be really excited about a FD they were working on but they put it on hold and skated the Snake again for obvious reasons so I guess I was just super pumped to finally see that FD. So if this is it I am surprised.

OK, so I guess I'm in the minority. What can I say, I'm a sentimental slob, and I thought it was sweet.

I can't watch that the way it is filmed with the camera moving around. :yikes:

A competitive FD won't look like that. Unfortunately I guess the music will be the same though.

I like tinkly piano but the Supremes would be so cool...

A free dance is no more than 4 minutes, and the length of the Supremes' IHAS single (or possibly the album version) on YouTube is 2:43.

There was a guy who passed away this year who made over several years many, many extended versions of various Motown songs which were amazing and at times for more artful than the original mixes.

Here is the mix for IHAS he did that comes out at 4:18. I do not believe these are authorized for use by the owners of the Motown catalog now, but one would assume that 20 seconds could be sweated out of it if it were possible to use it.

Also weird about these rumors (they're probably all true though, the skating news you never want typically is) is Prelude in E minor for H/B when C/B skated to that their first season, albeit the Gerry Mulligan version.

I don't think that's weird. C/B had that program back in 2011-12. That was ten years ago, they placed 5th at US Nats with it, and didn't go to Worlds or anything. It's not like they won a Worlds or Olympic medal with it. And C/B aren't even with the same coaching team that made it.

I hope this rumor is not true! That piece is so slow and funereal. H/B need to project more speed and power to move up in the rankings. This (piece of music) could be like a lead weight tied around their ankles.

The music is the worst part though....

ETA: Just because I don't want to be negative, I have seen many an FD with terrible music still result in a great performance. Hopefully C/B will be able to do that with this.

All the top teams are going in this direction. The judges don't have the capacity it appears to judge anything else highly.

Hawayek/Baker are now listed as withdrawn from the US Int'l FS Classic in Norwood in two weeks (per the USFS international assignments page). Hopefully it's nothing major.

Aren't there usually a lot of withdrawals early in the season?
Seems like during the last Olympic season all the top teams only competed at their home CS or closest-to-home event.

It doesn't seem great that Hawayek & Baker have withdrawn. They have nothing to lose there and world standing points to gain. Maybe they received some feedback at Champs Camp that is going to require more work? They have quite a while before they have to compete on the GP.

The judges didn't seem to have a problem scoring C/B's Snake FD very highly when skated well. And Fear/Gibson have been moving up the ranks with fun, upbeat free dances.
Precisely. It's lot's more high risk and easier to make mistakes. So most teams will go the safe route.

I also think teams will be thinking that the RD is quite a fun and upbeat theme this year so having a more serious FD theme is a good contrast.

Yeah, but Finnstep is supposed to be fun and upbeat too so now we're in the 3rd consecutive year of the "fun RD + serious FD" mold.

I suppose but I personally think of the Finnstep as like purely musicals and more "classics" if you like, which left some leeway for things like say Madonna which are upbeat and modern but in a different way. (Not explaining very well here what I mean - sorry!)
