Friday watch party: 1999 Worlds SP

What's with these skaters skating to Aladdin in 1999? Did they just get it in the theaters?

No, I think Aladdin was in theater around 1992. I know it was released before The Lion King, and that was 1994.

If Lavernchuck was Russian, she would probably have placed in the top 4 given Soldatova's placement here. I would say American, but she'd be a totally different skater.

Totally. Presentation sucked, but at least 6 of those elements were exceptional. Only the footwork was non-existant.

What a difference two decades makes for Russian ladies figure skating (and for ladies figure skating generally). They went to a much younger teenybopper model, as likely inspired by Oksana Baiul, Michelle Kwan, Midori Ito, Sasha Cohen, and Tara Lipinski. :D

Freakin' :cheer:

All these haircuts are too much for me, I have an obsession with long hair since I was born. :wuzrobbed

I miss members of the old guard like Peggy who cared about such things like skaters stretching their chins up too much. If only we had people caring about such things now. They sound inane, but that sort of attention to detail to aesthetics would be nice these days.

Love her bangs and the ponytail playing sexy to Black Velvet  Was this the year she was 4th at Euros?
