For something lighthearted, humorous, and quite touching, try Mr. Iglesias on Netflix. I am also enjoying Trinkets. And, since there's a high school theme here, I watched Sex Education earlier this year, and it was also very good.
Agree about Mr. Iglesias. It was simply lighthearted entertainment that teaches some good lessons. I kept thinking this would be a good TGIF show, after Full House and Family Matters. I could do w/o the poor attempts at current political humor, but for the most part it was pretty funny. The Mikey character is my favorite!

I think Netflix is recreating a lot of TGIF-like shows. I think their modern-day Cuban-American adaptation of One Day at a Time fit right in before they canceled it and it was picked up by a network I never knew existed.

I was really disappointed by Netflix's cancelling of this show, but glad it got picked up by Pop. However, it doesn't look like those living outside the US will be able to access the fourth season of the show.

I was really disappointed in ODAAT's last season and I don't think I'll search out season 4. They really did a disservice about not researching lesbian sexual health. Yes, trump removed a lot of that info, but it is still out there. One misconception is that it is very unlikely to get an STD.

LGBT YOUTH • In addition to the usual issues of adolescence, LGBT youth face the additional stress of confronting stigma and discrimination by family, peers, and society at large (32). A recent Canadian study looking at the experiences of LGBT students in high schools found they were more likely than other students to experience sexual harassment, in addition to bullying and physical abuse (33). • LGBTQ youth report engaging in more high risk sexual activities and report higher rates of alcohol and drug use than their straight peers (34). • A recent study of high-school age LGB students found that nearly half reported that their GPs had never discussed sex or sexual health with them. In this study, 66% of participants thought it was important that their doctor know their sexual orientation, however only 35% reported being out to their provider (32). • A US study found that although LGBT youth sought information about STIs online, few searched for broader sexual health information (35). • A recent study by Planned Parenthood Toronto found that unplanned pregnancy rates were higher for LGBTQ youth than for straight youth (34). • Half the youth who reported questioning their sexual orientation in the Planned Parenthood study were immigrants to Canada (34).

Basically - they are youth and testing/discovering and they may take more risks and are not getting the information they need to stay safe.

I was really upset when that episode ran. They needed to be more responsible and even have one of those PSAs at the end.

Good point about that episode. It struck me at the time that they had not addressed safer sex, which seemed odd for a show that was generally quite progressive. Having looked at the RHO fact sheet, I was surprised to read WSW were at risk of HPV (and thus cervical cancer?), and that the belief that this was not the case, had resulted in a significantly lower number of WSW having pap smear tests. That is something I did not know.

Studies have documented the transmission of many STIs between women including chlamydia, the human papilloma virus (HPV), HIV, trichomoniasis, syphilis, and genital herpes . . . Another common misperception is that WSW do not require PAP smears. Studies have shown that WSW are screened for cervical cancer at disproportionately lower rates than their heterosexual peers. In fact WSW, including those who have never had male partners, are at risk for cervical abnormalities and should have regular screenings

Nothing was as good at the first season quite honestly. The character of Elena wasn’t written nearly as well since that first season. I really do like that the show had a main character like Penelope though. I only knew her from Six Feet Under and didn’t know she had the comedy chops to lead a sitcom. I thought the third season was much stronger than the second though that episode was badly done.

I just finished the second season of Good Girls. I think I love Christina Hendricks. I’m not sure the story can really support a third season but it’s been a fun ride so far. Though I just realized that her husband on the show is Shaggy in Scooby Doo and I cannot see him as anything else anymore.
I started watching this last night. 3 episodes in and enjoying it.

Caught up with the current episode of this season's The Handmaid's Tale, and I don't know.
I loved the slow, atmospheric pace of the first season since it was a lot of world building and revealing just how effed up the world can get when we let it happen. Plus, it was interesting to watch due to it being based on the Margaret Atwood novel. But now that it has more of a plot and they don't have the novel to guide them, I don't think this slow pace is doing the show much favors. Nothing is really happening or at least what is happening isn't really enough to fill this many episodes. The thing with slower pacing and character reveals is to gain more insight and perspectives and being surprised when big things happen. I don't think there's anything new being offered this season. Even this last Aunt Lydia episode (why didn't she just die?) didn't really show me anything new or anything interesting about her. I also am tired of this Orange is the New Black style flashbacks. Like OITNB, the flashbacks were interesting at first, but now it's just there just to be there or seems fan service-like as opposed to actually being interesting to watch or furthering anything along. I also didn't buy how quickly her partner just lost it. Also, all the close ups of Elisabeth Moss looking "cool" in her hood or wings or whatever is becoming a joke in of themselves. Also, on a superficial note, I CANNOT wait to be done with the Waterfords because looking at Joseph Fiennes on the screen makes me gag due to how unappealing he is to look at. I also don't give a crap about Serena.

On a lighter note, Harlots has started their third season strongly though I find Liv Tyler, who luckily only plays a supporting character, so laughably bad in this show. She really cannot act, and pitting her against a thespian like Lesley Manville is cruel. Nice to see "Theon Greyjoy" get another job after GOT.

Many people share your complaints about this season.

It is supposed to be about the birth of a revolution. I'm hoping the remaining seven episodes will focus on that, it has to be coming.

Seeing that some of the handmaids are starting to be veiled is truly creepy (as were the handmaids with metal rings in their mouth, in the capital)

Schitt's Creek is one of my favorite shows. I was tired of waiting for Netflix to get season 5, so I found it online and caught up there. I don't know what accent Catherine O'Hara is doing on that show but I can't get enough of it. This might be my favorite thing Eugene Levy has done. Also, Annie Murphy and Dan Levy are perfection as their characters.

I may or may not have A Little Bit Alexis downloaded on my phone :shuffle:

I cannot get over how perfect Annie Murphy's accent and manner of speaking is with all those new money rich girls who have had very little parental supervision and tons of money and freedom to spend it. It's so Paris Hilton circa early 2000s.

I'm watching the new Hulu season of Veronica Mars and I'm annoyed

at Veronica for being such a bad girlfriend and being so immature and not growing up but I know that's supposed to be part of the plot [/secure]

There's an article on Slate I think you angry Veronica Mars viewers might like (I won't link it in case it shows up in a weird way and spoils anyone).

Anyone else watched Chernobyl? Quite gripping and well produced miniseries about the Chernobyl disaster.
Yes and agree that it grabs you from the start: I also found it illuminating because it became clear that Russia's neighbors were not the only ones who were surprised when alarms went off. The Russian hierarchy was lied to by those in charge at the plant while the rank and file workers sacrificed themselves.

So it is hot 🔥 this week so I opted for the first season of "Trapped" on Amazon: A compelling mystery set in Iceland starring a wonderful actor named Olafur Darri Olaffson. I will binge the second season shortly.

I saw the Comic Con preview of the fourth season of The Expanse and I am psyched. I loved Battlestar Galactica and was glad to find this series that is exciting and provocative with high production values picked up by Amazon.

I loved Samin Nosrat's series Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat on Netflix. If she wanted to take folks on a gastronomic tour of her favorites I am so ready to go.
