Sad to see one of the more interesting ice dance teams to look forward to at Nationals won't be there next season.

CBS Chicago did a story on 2019 U.S. Novice Dance pewter medalists Elliana & Ethan Peal with their coach/dad, Rob: https://chicago.cbslocal.com/2019/05/02/brother-sister-ice-dancing-duo-dreams-of-olympic-gold

Clips of Oona & Gage Brown's exhibition version of their [2018-19] Junior free dance (her assisted lift of him at the end drew big applause) at the Ice Theatre of New York's "Spring Unplugged" show on May 2nd: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bw_IL1enHFy/

Saw both of these teams at Lake Placid this year, very early in the season. She caught my eye when nationals was held in Kansas City. The Peal's free dance is hands-down the best interpretation for me of "The Greatest Showman" for me performed this season.

The Browns were also very impressive --a delightful tango even with very short legs (her)and an effective blues FD. I hope their coaching situation is being worked out.

We also saw both the Peals and the Browns in Lake Placid last summer and were very impressed by both teams.

Creative pairing idea for Alexander Petrov: What about Livvy Shilling? Her skill set would translate quite well to dance. She has strong blade work and typically rocks the footwork section in her programs. Few competitors outscore her there. Plus, she can "bring it" in a variety of programs, and her style does not seem to be over-represented in dance.
 @just wondering posted the above on March 3. I can confirm that Shilling is making the switch to ice dance and has paired with Petrov in Novi, Michigan. She turned 22 in February and he will be 21 next week.

Re-posting this article here from the McNamara/Carpenter fan thread...

Article in the May 2019 issue of Dance Magazine: This Contemporary Choreographer Also Makes Winning Ice Dance Routines
Contemporary dance world darling Jonah Bokaer takes his work very seriously, and it shows. Highly focused on craft and unconstrained by the traditional definition of a choreographer, the former Cunningham dancer has developed dance apps, pioneered new relationships between visual art and dance, and worked with collaborators as illustrious as Pharrell Williams.
But fans of his heady, intellectual work may be surprised by a recent project that he calls one of the most rewarding of his life: Choreographing for Team USA ice dance pair Lorraine McNamara and Quinn Carpenter. Bokaer was introduced to the pair by the mother of one of his company's supporters, who just happens to be an Olympic ice skating judge.
We talked to Bokaer—who, true to form, takes his work for the ice incredibly seriously, too—about what it was like to go back to basics as a non-skater, and why he thinks skating is even more technical than ballet

Post #836 on the previous page of this thread and I started a thread for Karina's new blog (her first post is titled "Saying Goodbye"): https://www.fsuniverse.net/forum/threads/karina-mantas-blog-circus-runaway-with-joe-johnson.105549/

Ah, I see that Ash Cain retweeted/linked Karina's blog: Circus Runaway. An apt title. ;)

I know that Lubov had a contract with Cirque, and she used to post such cool pictures of her practice moves. I've seen Cirque shows, but not much of the ice skating version of Cirque. I wonder what the show will be like that Manta/Johnson and Smith/Reiss apparently have signed up for.

Karina's blog is poignant, as she shares her excitement and anticipation in setting off on a new journey, and her bittersweet feelings about leaving competition behind, at least for now:
Karina: "I guess all ice dancers really do end up in Montreal one way or another." :)

Katarina DelCamp and Ian Somerville appear to now be instagram official, which lends some credibility to the Caroline Green and Michael Parsons rumors, as insane as the prospect still seems to me.
Just out of curiosity how is she a better match than Eliana? She is taller and less experienced. Maybe he wanted a younger partner so he could stay junior for longer. I wonder where they will train

DelCamp's posts from the past few weeks have all been location tagged in Maryland, so it seems they're staying with his coaches.

I imagine her age has something to do with it, if I have done my math correctly they can stay Junior for the rest of the quad instead of aging out after next season. She's a great performer and very flexible as well. I don't know if they'll be as good as G/S, but I suppose all they can really do at this point is work hard.

I believe that per Chen's recent IPS bio, Jeffrey is now a couple inches taller. He's capable of some pretty impressive lifts. He has good edges--has won a lot of compulsory dances over the past couple seasons. I think he's quite good. Starting over again, of course, is starting over again; but as athletes go Chen, Zhao, and Wolfkostin have very similar resumes and have come up at the same time. As far as the current shuffling of deck chairs is concerned, I'm quite good with this one. Don't know what happened with W&Z, but I hope Zhao will find a partner as well.

I'm sorry, I don't understand how these two situations are connected. Can you clarify? Thanks.
I think the post was deleted, but in the same post that said that DelCamp/Somerville were teaming up, they said Caroline and Michael were now partners. Given that the first is now confirmed, I thought it made the other more likely to be true even as surprising as it seems. Sorry for the confusion!
