I think I've figured it out! He was 3D mapping the ice under exhibition lighting, and I bet we find out why in the exhibition. I saw a documentary where they were 3D mapping an old church... same sort of movement.

Projection mapping? I don't think that would require whatever it was that guy was doing.

It almost seemed like he was doing a long-exposure light drawing. You see people doing that with glowsticks and stuff.

I need to rewatch the Browns because I sat on the side of the rink and high up and couldn't help but notice the Browns' skating was a bit smaller esp skating after W/T, who defines big aggessive skating (at least in the first half). That will be something they need to work on.
(now watching the Browns in video so I can enjoy the story telling more)
