Is she age eligible? I don’t recall seeing her in senior GPs.

She's age eligible, but she didn't earn a Senior GP. Her SB last year (from the first JGP/the very first event of the season) was 42nd. (Behind Courtney Hicks. And more significantly Mikhailova & Sakhanovich). This year she's competing senior programs, and her SB from Golden Spin is currently 29th (behind Tarakanova). This makes Guliakova the 15th Russian lady on the SB list. (Maybe 2 or 3 stay in juniors). She finished tenth at Nationals.

Russia's far eastern Sakhalin Oblast is playing host to the 1st Children of Asia Games. The interesting part of this is Russia is playing host to a in affect a novice winter asian games. Rules have been crafted such that Russia can participate with several regions competing separating, including Moscow oblast. I wonder whether it is a larger move from Russia to compete in Asian competitions rather than Europe in the coming years, I think it would be a smart move, after all Russia is far more Asian than Australia.

He won't be... they were divorced already, and all she supposedly did was strictly her own initiative or non-action.
Not if he was signing married filing jointly tax returns after the divorce, a status with tax benefits to which he was no longer entitled. The IRS won't accept married filing jointly tax returns without both signatures and SSNs/tax ID's, so she couldn't have filed solely on his behalf. Or if didn't file during the period after he returned to Russia where he was still responsible for filing under the terms of having had a green card.

If she URs she will be penalised just like at Europeans, if not she will get the score. Her PCS is the same level as Kihara, by no means Kihara is a artistic genius. It is amazing how some here want likes of Tennel to get higher PCS but find Alina’s score offensive.

I hope Judges will show no mercy for chronic URs like Satoko and Zhou. I find it funny how people want Alina’s juSmp to be penalized but take offense on Zhou’s Jumps being called UR, which almost all his jumps should get a carrot.

I don’t think Med is ready, and her whole year has been a train wreck. A completion should not be enough to deem it okay to sent her to the world championship. Even Tuk’s half hearted skate last week is far better than what Med has skated all year long.
so while I agree Med has had a tough year, her FS at Rus nationals was much better than Tuk's latest outing - which really wasn't good. The problem with Tuk is that when the jumps aren't there, she doesn't have much else

Given Liza was still recovering from pneumonia, I wouldn't worry too much about that comp. She's got one or two (depending on what she and Mishin decide) before Worlds. Pneumonia can take 6 weeks to regain lost strength. She says she's feeling stronger every day. People read too much into nothing.

Plot twist: Stanislava Konstantinova wins Russian Cup Final and beats both Med and Tuk for the world spot.

(Yes, I’m delusional).
Well it could happen. She manages to stay on her feet on domestic ice and then she is doused in PCS.

Honestly even if Tukt does not seem 100% healthy and fit.... she seems the safest choice. She may not medal but she is not prone to major meltdowns.

I wonder if Alina will be saved by olympic champ PCS once again in case of meltdown. If Eteri is smart sge would take out some of those stupid transions that seem to be causing most of her problems. She could score the same PCS if she can hold a position for longer... and it may save her stamina for rotating the jumps and better landings.

Last season, this season, how many chances is she going to get? There is so many tallented skaters in Russia...
If they are that talented they should have no problems qualifying against her.
(Qualifying against that domestically overscored chick, who has a bit of problems on international scene which is proven in her GP silver medal and 8th place GP season finish overall )
No further replies by me on that matter.

I don’t hate her! I have nothing against her personally, but she has taken opportunities from other skaters and then wasted those opportunities. Last season, this season, how many chances is she going to get? There is so many tallented skaters in Russia...
Except that she didn’t take those opportunities from other skaters, she earned them.
Even if she scored few points less at Russian Nationals, she still would have been named for the Euros team - it’s not her fault that both Evgenia and Alina imploded in Saransk.

Konstantinova was selected by the RFSF to skate in several events based on her results at the time. There are "politics" taking place on behalf of several skaters "on the cusp", but RFSF, in the end, sends the ones they feel can bring quotas and best results.

The other ladies, who (as some people wished) could have been sent to the Worlds last year instead of Konstantinova, have not done that well through out this season. Konstantinova did come in 1st, in senior ladies at Russian Nationals. She is not consistent, but she earns her placements with good results at the time of selection.

I realize she is not competition to Japanese or top Russian ladies, but she caught my attention in 2013 when she skated to "Jeeves and Wooster" (BBC series) music... :rollin:

Indeed. Her scores were inflated at Russian Nats, but so were Medvedeva's and Zagitova's. I would hope that any set of judges in the world would have ranked her over them based on their performances there.

Inflated against what criteria? if everyone's scores were inflated, as you say, then it is still "ranking" one girl against another that matters....

So glad you posted it. This is the first major (relatively) Figure Skating event to take place in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Sakhalin Island and/or in the Russian Far East. I believe the event is intended to cover the Eastern part of Russian territory and connect with Asian Figure Skating community. Technically Russia is "Eurasia" and is present both continents, and yet it is harder for younger skaters in the Far East to participate in european-section events, for a number of reasons. So it is rather an effort to cover "both ends". But it seems to be "just the beginning" and top young skaters from the western/european side are good for the image and popularity, and... should not be excluded based on geography.. Hopefully at the next event there will be skaters from Japan, Korea, China, and other asian countries, even maybe Australia...

There are skating clubs in Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, and Yuzhno-Sakhalins, with some very promising young skaters.
In Khabarovsk there is a skating school "Pirouette" and two ice rinks

and three ice arenas, like Platinum Arena and others..

and FS school.. "Metelitza"

Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk is a bit behind, managed to build only one practice rink, one skating school and one main arena, but it is a small population area.

Recently Adelina Sotnikova was sponsored to come to Sakhalin and teach younger groups for girls and boys.

Well, if Aussie skaters are included, why not also include some Alaskan skaters? Can't be much further of a distance to travel from Anchorage to Sakhalin Island than it is to travel from Anchorage to some eastern seaboard US competitions. :)

The problem I have is that Stasia implodes in the SP, then the judges give her inflated marks in the LP if she does not implode there. If they give her correct marks, she may not make up the difference.

As a side note, there is a difference between ‘few’ and ‘ a few’. It drives me crazy to see people use ‘few’ which means ‘none’ when they really should have used ‘a few’ which means ‘some’ ( but not many). In some cases the context explains what the poster means, but sometimes it is confusing ( I think you mean some
Points here, and not No points).

But don't you think Alina still has some "insurance" especially if she's clean in the SP? She needs to go. Next year she'll be abandoned, but I really love her and I am a fan who knew she'd win OG after her JrWo win. She was just better than MED, well, even though Alina didn't master the O-face and the pantomiming... I'd love for her to suck it in, and win the Worlds, and then leave competitive skating.
Alina has not had an easy season. She does not seem to be doing well with her new body. I hope she does not go to Worlds. I hate to see OLY Champs continue to compete..................rarely does it go well.............for whatever reason.

There seems to be some controversy over few / a few? I looked at 11 sites for few v. a few. Only one made the distinction you made.
https://www.grammarly.com/blog/few-a-few/

Few is a quantifier used with plural countable nouns. Without the article “a,” few emphasizes a small number of something. Adding the article removes the emphasis—a few means some. The same rule applies to little, which is used with singular uncountable nouns.

In USAmerican English:

"A few" verse few verse afew; very similar to a lot v. alot v. lot. For say:

A few = a hand full, like two to seven depends on big big one's hands are. My wife has very big hands for a lady so she can hold a few golf ball's with out dropping the balls.

Afew = word for when someone sneeze's.

Few = sprinkle

My wife and me have many arguments about weather "may be" and "maybe" are two different thing's, I say no so that is probably right. She may not agree.

Now I am confused between Stasiya and Stasia, is Galustyan now representing Russia (I hope?) or does a different Anastasia skate and I have missed her this season, the only Russians I know are too-too and moo-moo and the one who used to be a mime but has now failed.

Exactly. I’ll never forget how pathetic it was to see 2002 Oly champ Sarah Hughes be an “also ran” at 2003 Worlds. Katarina Witt’s situation in 1985 was highly unusual...living in a totalitarian country, unable to go pro after her Olympics win in 1984...she had every reason to remain super-fit between ‘84 and ‘88. Sarah in ‘03 was a shadow of her Olympic self.

I really do hope that the Worlds' spot goes to Tuktamysheva, although I'm also ok with the spot going to Medvedeva. Unless Tuk is really not ready in time, but I am optimistic. Konstantinova's time to prove herself was at Euros, and she blew it. Why should she get a second chance?

And while I agree Konstantinova placing 4th in Saransk was not necessarily wrong, I do think she got the favor from the judges in a field that was arguably pretty close from 4th to 9th.

I agree that Tarusina is solid as a rock. I really hope she gets at least one GP event next season. If she continues skating consistently, she could have her Samodurova moment by placing high at major senior events and getting the attention of the Russian Fed. Who knows, she could even make Euros.

I want to point out that there are no articles ("a" and "the") in the Russian language or certain other Slavic languages. For those who speak such languages as their native tongue, learning when to use the articles in English can be very difficult, because the grammar for articles is not particularly systematic. My Serbian labmate was always expressing his frustration at not knowing when to write "the" or "a" in his journal paper, and that it feels like guessing.
