Usually it is much better but this time around the amateur videos were even more enjoyable than the official camera work.

I just don't get why P/C fans are so worried.
I don't really get what is so old-fashioned about S/K's dance particularly that people keep harping on it - could someone explain?
The judges at both Canadian and US nationals are so lenient. Way too many L4, especially compared to Europeans. I love H/D with my whole heart but there is no way they should have gotten a score so close to P/C RD. Can't believe worlds will be the first time we see all the teams head to head.High tango pattern levels at US Nationals.
Chock/Bates. Level 4 on both tango romantica patterns. Hubbell/Donohue got a level 4 and 3.
Hawayek/Baker seem to have made a massive technical step up from the grand prix circuit where they were getting base levels and level 1s for the pattern. They got a level 4 and level 3 here.
So either they've finally straightened out the pattern in a massive way since the grand prix or the technical scoring is sympathetic.
Four Continents will be interesting. It always seems to be the balancing process after Canadian and US Nationals.
So the L2 for the TR is because of the timing?
Just randomly dropping in to mention that timing is a Baranov "thing" (rather than a Dostatni one). If you look at Baranov's calls from the Helsinki GP (and last year's Warsaw Cup), you'll find more timing calls for the top athletes than you usually see on a protocol sheet. Though I didn't notice any at Mentor Torun Cup, which he just called as well.
Note: My apologies for just mentioning that one random detail and fleeing. I stumbled on just a bit of the conversation about Europeans above, when reading a post with an "alert" from this morning; but I can't really read & catch up on this thread at the moment as I haven't seen the U.S. Nationals rhythm dance yet and must be off to go watch it now.
Note 2: Also, I just want to say whee! for Stepanova & Bukin today. May everybody have a fabulous free dance.
It’s the same old stuff about how even though Russia hasn’t won anything important in ice dance for years now they actually still entirely control ice dance but couldn’t deny wins to d/w or v/m but may be able to deny a win and get one of their horrible undeserving overscored teams a victory over p/c!! Like that one short dance b/s won over them! That shocking shocking moment when Russia and their control of ice dance was going to make b/s euro champs over p/c!! Then of course b/s only won bronze because russia doesn’t control ice dance and has no power in ice dance and will never ever ever have a team beat p/c or h/d or the shubutanis! That's only if they blow an important element. I don't really see that happening, and if they do blow a big element and another team within striking range after the SD does not, then it'd be a fair result. I just don't get why P/C fans are so worried. P/C never blow it that bad and they have the love of the judges who will try to get them to break a world record with their PCS and GOE scores. The judges will protect them from a level 2 call.
I've posted it in the P/C fan thread but what the heck talking about bad camera work, I actually found this amateur video 100 times better, because them moving across the ice can be seen uninterrupted plus we can see much better their hands and face expressions. From this angle, it looks like Guillaume's third twizzle is fine, he just whip it to get a sense of acceleration but I don't think it is under rotated. Maybe the Tech controller was looking from the wrong angle. The camera work is just so bad at euros... I can't appreciate the performances because the camera zooms out so damn far

Quite happy with the Euros results! The only thing that would have made me happier would have been the Poles managing to stay ahead of SinKats![]()
I don't see how an empty colourless dance done at high speed without the seamlessness and ease of truly classic pairs scores as highly as they do. It's just not fair to other ice dancers, IMHO. But silver lining the top three teams won their medals.![]()
Those PCS. lol
P/C have been together since childhood which really helps. Plus I think they have a natural talent on the ice. I will try to link it but at the first worlds where they won the eurosport commentary worded them really well saying something along the lines about its the thing you can't teach and that they have such soft knees and ankles.Posted in the wrong thread previously.
What I want to know is, how do you develop the talent P/C has? Neither S/K or S/B have it no Russian pair coming up looks to be taking that trajectory. I recall practically all their dancers bar none start out as single skaters. Haven't all the greatest greatest dance pairs worked on their connection from infancy? What needs to happen for Russia to create the K/P's, U/Z's and G/P's of tomorrow? Sorry I hijacked this thread. I am glad S/K pulled themselves together today but I don't see that it quality in them. G/F are on the cusp of it, S/B have it even though I hate her skating skills terribly.
Ridiculous. Did they think they could have vaulted them from 5th to the podium?

Honestly now I feel quite annoyed. You asked a question as though it was serious and instead it was totally disingenuous. You don't appear to have had any real interest in the answer, it was just an excuse to prop up P/C and put down the Russian pairs. Stuff like this is really making me start to feel less positive toward P/C. I could easily ask "what would it take to get P/C to do something different that shows some versatility and range"
I suppose I don't question the virtue of soft knees and ankles per se but I do question the idea that P/C's way of dance is the supreme way of doing dance. I clicked on that link and got bored and shut it off after half the program. I don't want all dancers to skate like that. I do think S/K have yet to have the perfect piece of choreography that showcases them to their full potential. They will get it or they won't, but for me that has really been the thing that has set the legendary dancers apart - not a style but a vehicle that showcased them to their full effect.
I take back what I said about C/B's FD from Torun because I really liked it tonight. Their lifts are spectacular. I continue to dislike H/D's FD. I also enjoyed H/B and agreed with Tanith about the choreography of their program.Changing the subject in a good way. Chock and Bates's FD is an example of the type of program that could genuinely compete with P/C's. It just oozes dance. I have a feeling Lauzon et al. could really sweep the podium come worlds.![]()
