2018 Summer TV New/Returning Shows

LOVE Billions - have been watching since the beginning. One of the best written/acted shows on tv right now.

I'll agree on the acting.

Sometimes the writing can be a little heavy handed and self-congratulatory in the use of movies or other cultural touchstones -- characters often need to explain at length the point of a reference they're making, so that those of us in the audience who aren't familiar with the source they're referring to can get the reference, but the other person in the conversation usually knows it just as well as the person who brought it up and sometimes takes over the mansplain-for-the-audience duties. (Sometimes Taylor does this, but I can't recall Wendy or Kate ever doing it, and certainly not Lara. So yeah, it's a guy thing.)

I love it! But I will need to refresh my memory on all that has happened up to this point, it's been so long since it's been on!

I am hoping AMC will do a Season 1-2-3 marathon shortly before the premiere. I'll definitely be watching the listings for it since I don't have Netflix, which I do believe all seasons are posted there. I'll post it back here when I see something. :D I've read that the fire is supposed to be the catalyst that finally pushes "Jimmy McGill" into full blown "Saul Goodman", so I think this season we will see the emergence of Saul versus the story of Jimmy that has been built over the last 3 seasons.

I'm watching Billions on the computer now (a friend sends me videos), so I'm not sure if it is airing - but I think it is, as I'm having to wait for the final two episodes.

I love, Love, LOVE Billions and have been subscribing to Showtime on Amazon Prime just to watch it. I grew up on the periphery of this culture (attended private school in Manhattan K-12 but no money to summer in the Hamptons), overlapped at Yale with Paul Giamatti, and can pick out my apartment in the panoramic shots of Brooklyn Heights. Of course the show plays up the drama and satirical aspects for entertainment value, but I actually find the character depictions even down to the walk-on parts to be almost painfully accurate. Aaron Ross Sorkin, one of the show creators, is a financial reporter for the NY Times and CNBC, and I think his involvement helps to ensure authenticity. I'll definitely be streaming tomorrow night's penultimate episode and the finale the following week. Then I'll have to wait until early 2019 for GOT to come back before there's anything on TV I can't do without.

I found Pose on FX to be quite good. If you’re a fan of RPDR or are curious about what life was like in the 80s for some in the LGBTQ community, give it a try.

Because I will forget when someone posts next week's t.v. shows this weekend, since this will be on Monday night - June 11, 9 p.m. on A&E - David Cassidy: The Last Season.

Headlines are all over the place because in the documentary he admits he didn't have dementia, but that he was still drinking.

DVR is set.

New/Returning Shows for the week Sunday June 10/2018 - Saturday June 16/2018:

AliasJohnDoe
I know you "liked" my previous post, but in case other people didn't see it -

Monday, June 11
9 p.m. - David Cassidy: The Last Season - A#E

And
Wednesday, June 13
9 p.m. - Ozzy & Jack's World Detour Season 2 - A&E

I love this show. Ozzy and Jack are so cute together. And it's somewhat educational. I just wish the WHOLE THING thing was subtitled. I can't understand Ozzy most of the time. :-)

So You Think You Can Dance ....... so did everyone lose the last 15 minutes due to "technical difficulties", or was that just my channel? Who was the 'former winner' that was partnering with someone? I assume it happened in the last 15 minutes since I didn't see anything with a former winner. Who was it?

Mine only cut out during the commercial. It was Benji. His swing partner auditioned and made it through. They did an incredible routine with a lot of crazy tricks.

:wuzrobbed Missed it. It came back on briefly for the guy that dances whatever that style is called that Twitch does. What do you call that anyway? Its not break dancing, its ....... ??????? Then after that it went out again and didn't come back on at all.

Just caught up with the Killing Eve season finale. WOW.

That show is a total surprise---I knew nothing about it and just started watching and could not stop. Bravo to Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer and program creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge on a thoughtful, fun, frenetic, fantastic series.

Others: I just finished "Patrick Melrose" and believe even more that Benedict fecking Cumberbatch is the best actor working today. Period. I cannot think of how difficult it would have been to attack that character---both the physical acting and the full portrayal of a young and middle-aged man dealing with addiction and the causes of the addiction. Also the boy who played young Patrick: Sebastian Malz---he was awesome as well. This was painful (and sometimes funny) to watch. And to think this was probably true. Good God.

"The Expanse"----Hurry up with the next episode, hurry, hurry, hurry---why can't we stream the damned thing? Science fiction done well for television is a dicey prospect and this series is wonderful. I think I must give the books it was based on a look-see one of these days. And kudos to whoever designed the look of the series and specifically the look of Shohreh Aghdashloo's wardrobe. Just beautiful....Cinema quality.

"The Split"----I like this show because it is about a family of women who happen to be successful divorce lawyers and come with their own set familial problems. I like it because I don't think it is overdone and soapy. It is well written and holds my interest with the problems presented and the sometimes surprising choices that are made. I hope Sundance keeps the series. The last woman-based series I loved was the violent but wonderful "Godless" and the funny (and sometimes serious) "Glow." Either way women are well served on these shows. Girl Power!!!!

"Legion"---- God help me I'm trying to stay with it. That it is so weird that I don't know what will happen next is one thing but it is sssooooo "out there" for me. Still I like the cast and I have to admit that sometimes I do like the strangeness of it.

"The Good Place"----I've had an awful Spring and wanted something frothy and funny and kind of sweet. Did NBC even promote this little gem?

I am currently streaming Queer Eye (laugh, cry, ooh and ah and cry some more) Great show! And I heard from a friend that said to add a new show called "Dietland" to the list. She said she has no idea where this show is headed but she is interested and she is pretty good at finding the stuff that tends to get lost because we have so many choices now. Golden Age of television indeed!

There were comments about Elementary a couple pages back somewhere. I don't watch the DVRd episode right away, so this is about the 6/4 episode I watched last night. No spoilers, but I just wanted to mention that there was a stray cat walking in the background of one of the scenes! I rewound (do you "rewind" a DVR, ha ha?) to see it again.

You don't see animals unless they are part of the story (dead person had a cat or whatever) or background of extras walking dogs in a park if that was where a body was found or something. It was just walking along the edge of a building way in the background. If something like that happened, you'd think they would reshoot the scene, but I guess nobody noticed. Or figured, realistically we're outside so there might be a stray cat somewhere.

It's around the half hour mark, right after that creepy guy hits Hannah's car, Sherlock and the captain talking in a parking lot, facing the camera.

I just thought that was funny.

I really do think this is Benedict's best work to date. Yes, it was often painful to watch. But also hard to stop. Amazing.

YAY!!!!!

Take Two looks like its basically "Castle" but reversed. Slight change with he's a PI and she's a disgraced actress (versus a cop and a lauded author), but its still "Castle". I still plan on watching it though.

Did anyone happen to watch For the People? Opinions if you did? I have the whole run saved on my DVR and just wondering if its worth it to spend 10 hours watching it.

I thought the same thing about the reverse Castle show, and will watch it too.

And ---- I watched the first episode of For the People and DVRd the rest. I haven't felt like watching any of them. I got too confused on who was on which side.
