Some groups of fans are worse than others. And some VM fans are still going on about how they were robbed in Sochi and how Marina “abandoned” them.

My #1 wish for the next quad is that P/C try some different styles of FDs.

If Muramoto/Reed continue, I’d like to see them try something fiery, dramatic, and even a bit old-school to really feature Kana in almost a diva-like way. I’d like to see how that would look on them. I guess the tango SD next year would give them an opportunity to try this direction.

Hope to see Hubbell/Donohue continue to push the envelope with interesting & intense programs. And also to just keep working on and building up their technique and smoothness. I know everyone’s really disappointed about them not winning bronze, but I keep thinking of what was said about them having only half the time together that the 3 medalists have. That makes a difference, it’s got to. Don’t give up now, just keep working. More time together & patience hopefully will be key to taming those nerves.

I really wish that Zahorski/Guerrero could move to a non-Russian coach as I don’t see anyone in Russia who feels like the answer for them. Unless there is some lower-level but talented coaches that we’re not aware of.

The French (Gabriella Papadakis / Guillaume Catherine) were also far away, but now they won the silver of the Olympics, we must cling to everything, but, unfortunately, life develops sometimes so that we have to sacrifice sports and do health, "Solovyov told reporters.

Really? Is he really saying since the French did it, we can do it? Bobrova has been "dancing" for years, working hard, and she still hasn't managed to fix that horrible posture and flailing arms. Not to mention the lack of talent that the French have. If the Russian Fed. is still putting their hopes in these two, they will be hammered as they should be.

Yes, please, this. Bring back the Pink Floyd and Woodkid kinda dance.

Truth. They have the skating skills to do it. It's like they're the ones that have gotten a little flat.

That’s what it seems like! B/s were or are just as capable of being world champions like p/c! That all their interruptions prevented them from being where p/c were in Pyeongchang. So either he is saying that as part of an exit or part of the beleif as to why they will win in Beijing or a worlds before Beijing. Like denkova and staviski won two worlds before Vancouver. I wonder if that’s what they think is going to happen with them?!

Agreed. surely he/she would change his mind of how extreme V/M fans are if she looked through the comment section on any V/M/shibs/H/D/ video on youtube and see a bunch of broken English deranged paragraph after deranged paragraph of mentally unhinged P/C french ubers body shaming, calling everyone who isn't P/C overscored,Calling the females sl*ts and wh0res, threatening to kill people and calling people the N-word. people like Marika fasola, Marie mogeineau, Christian margaric and french fries are prime examples of that. I'm sure if your an ice dance fan of any current popular team besides P/C you know how notorious they are for their repulsive comments directed toward everyone other dance team.
This is so confusing! But I have to say I agree with you that it is hard to read writing that doesn't use English correctly. May be I am "old school," but when I log on to youtube I see so many comments that neither my wife nor I can understand. It is like when her nieces and nephews try to "text" us, call me old fashioned but I will never accept "UR" as a word!

Also, I am confused as to what a "mentally unhinged P/C french uber" is! I have read this part of the post ten or twelve times and I am thinking: computers, insanity, ride sharing, and baguettes. What is the heck does this have to do with figure skating?!? While it would be extremely rude to call women slits or slats, that does not make sense, either!

These last two weeks have been wild! My wife and I have gone through so many packets of saltines and glasses of Tab, you'd think a hurricane had gone through northwest New Mexico! I really hope Weaver and Poje keep skating as they seem to have found a fresh direction with their new coach, who has always come across as very professional and classy. My wife is a fan of the Japanese team even though the man does not have an Oriental name. We both like the Germans for showing a true connection between a real man and a real woman.

So I am pumped up for the future of ice dance no matter what!

Yes, it is. Here is the link to ISU Communication No. 2019 for rules changes in Ice Dance (it should come up as the first option in Google search)

https://www.google.ca/search?q=ISU+...ome..69i57.19695j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Starting with the season 2018 – 2019 there will be 11 Grades of Execution.
This is not going to be good I think. Much more room fr manipulation and more confusion. I wish they just defined existed grades better and drove more consistency among judges

Agree. If the rules as they are, were just actually applied properly and consistently, then no changes would be necessary. Just my opinion of course.

Absolute Skating has been publishing skater recaps of the Olympic events, and I really enjoyed Stefano Caruso's take on the ice dance competition. He's admittedly biased ;) but has plenty of nice things to say about various competitors.
Thnx for this. Mr. Caruso is certainly entitled to his opinion and I agree with most of what he said, but I found this somewhat perplexing re V/M SD:

"I have to say, I don't get along very well with their SD music selection. Rolling Stones and Eagles for a Latin dance, really? Maybe it's because I still have in mind their last Latin program to "Hip Hip Chin Chin"."

But no comment on Shape of You as a Latin dance. And for the record, before everybody yells at me, I liked both SD and had no problem with the fact that neither was actual Latin music. Also, I don't think V/M chose that themselves, so he has just kind of insulted his girlfriend's coaches, lol. Just an observation :) :)

-I would like to see the Shibs keep skating. (I know. I know. Am I never satisfied? Nope. Just love to watch them skate).
-I would also like to see John Kerr do some dance choreography.
-I would like to see McNamara & Carpenter get two GP events and turn a few heads.
-I would like to see Stepanova & Bukin have two strong programs.
-I would like Lewis & Bye to have a really terrific season.
-I would like Loboda & Drozd to stay together, have two quality programs, and demonstrate the same amount of improvement that Popova & Mozgov did between their last two seasons.
-I would like Hurtado & Khaliavin to stay on the path they are headed & maybe try some more original choreography.
-I would kind of like to see the Danes switch to Canada if they have no path toward the Olympics at home. I wouldn't advocate it otherwise as skating for Denmark has been really great for them experience-wise, and it is nice to see Sorenson representing his home country. Also you never know if four years down the road you will make the team in a strong ice dance country. But if the Olympics is what F-B&S want and there is no path to get there via Denmark, then I think it's worth the fight, and I do not think there will ever be a more prime opportunity to fight for a dance spot in Canada than there is right now.

They did flamenco last season. And I really liked it, especially the final section. They just made too many mistakes last year. It did take the program a long time to reach the fiery part so it would be nice to see them shoot for something with a stronger start or a quicker acceleration. Teams that are new together, though, are often better off without pushing too far too fast. Perhaps now Muramoto & Reed are ready.

ROFL and the other two american teams would have duplicated the Shibs results, i.e placing 2nd in the SD and FD.

Look, I'm a total fan of the depth in U.S. ice dance and all the achievements the U.S. dance teams have made over the past three seasons.

But there is zero evidence to back up your statement above.

Hubbell & Donohue and Chock & Bates didn't duplicate the Shibs results. H&D placed behind Bobrova & Soloviev in the free dance here. Chock & Bates placed behind B&S and Cappellini & Lanotte in the free dance. (You think there would have been less pressure with the weight of the entire team on H&D and C&B's shoulders and skating last in the team event? I do not). The question was never whether H&D or C&B could skate better than Bobrova & Soloviev. The question was whether H&D and C&B could best B&S under Olympic pressure. Both teams have defeated B&S within the past two seasons; however, Bobrova & Soloviev have won more head-to-heads with these two teams over the last couple seasons than B&S lost. C&B defeated B&S once this year--at Cup of China--and once last year--at World Team Trophy. They also lost to B&S four times last year--Nepela, Rostelecom, GPF, and Worlds--and now once this season. Hubbell & Donohue defeated B&S once last season--Skate America--and lost to them twice--at Worlds & the GPF, plus now one split result this season.

I think a lot of people are too quick to underestimate Bobrova & Soloviev and Cappellini & Lanotte. Are they the fastest climbing dance teams on the scene today? Of course not. We will be lucky to see them again after Worlds. But they have a boatload of experience.

Also, remember that if C&B or H&D had gone up for the team event, Mirai would not have been in the team event to defeat Kostner by several placements. You really cannot know that the pressure would not have all come down on the dance team in the FD. It's impossible to know. I argued plenty of times over the past year that the dancers had done more to earn a spot on the team than the second-placed singles skaters. But H&D and C&B didn't prove their argument here.

And that isn't such an awful thing. Hubbell & Donohue had never been to an Olympics. Zach as much as said that it affected him differently this week. So you go. You get the experience. You keep going. You get more experience. And maybe the next time around, H&D are ready for it. They may have to work harder for their PCS at their next competition. Came into this event off a win and are now coming off of a less than stellar FD performance. In Ice-Dance Land, that matters. Consistency really helps. However, this Worlds & the next are the big post-Olympic turnover competitions, so the odds for teams trying to move up are quite good.

Ha! Professional and classy are two words I've never seen associated with Morozov![/QUOTE).

Don't you think that "Stasiya..." is gently and very subtly making fun of us fans in general and of the crazy ubers in particular ? Although I might be wrong, English is not my mother tongue. Personaly, what he wrote made me laugh

I rather agree with Mr Caruso and disagree with you. Actually, as much as P/C short dance with Ed Sheeran grew on me and had a real latin/fun feel to it which I really love , V/M SD did not and their music keeps bothering me a lot. And I find it quite funny that so many V/M fans have been critising P/C for their music in the short as V/M music was not only even less latin sounding but was for me almost unbearable.
For V/M FD I had the same problem with their music. The first part is ear shattering for me but I like the second part and their Fd did grow on me (except for the lift).

And that is fine :) We are all entitled to feel the way we do. I do not enjoy Ed Sheeran. But that doesn't mean P/C did not have a great SD.

V/M's music didn't bother me one bit. How could it? I wouldn't choose to listen to it myself, but it had all the correct rhythms without adjustment. I've danced Rumba to that version of Hotel California in competition. It was a different, eye catching take on the theme, one that got a lot of attention among the myriad Despacitos.

What's more, V/M's SD had by far the most Latin Ballroom steps of any couple. They weren't just skating to a Samba/Rumba/Cha Cha track, in between elements they were dancing competition-style Latin. It was remarkable. Natural rolls with correct body positioning, on ice! That move is ridiculously hard to get looking right just on the floor. So as far as authenticity goes, they had it in spades.

Didn't have an issue with P/C's either. Neither Shape of You or Thinking Out Loud are absolutely perfect Samba/Rumba tracks in their original form, but remixed pop songs are again not uncommon in the Latin Ballroom world. Their mix was fine and the vibe was fun. It was all good!

I hate Ed Sheeran. It's just a terrible generic bland pop song with some latin beats added in. It was a bad music choice IMO, and I was never convinced by the presentation of that program. I am wondering who made this choice of music for P/C. Rolling Stones / Santana are at least Classics. I think V/M are just a lot more natural at selling a Latin ballroom program (some find Scott forced though). My opinion of course.

V/M definitely confirmed that they aren't doing Worlds and I'd be astonished if they weren't done completely now, however much I long to see their Tango Romantica. So, yes, we'll see S/F!

I wonder about W/P and if they'll continue. They've been around a long time.

I know the spotlight on CAN Ice Dancers is very much on V/M right now, but I need to know too. Can somebody ask them at least ? They at least need to go to waorld, I just won't understand if not, because CAN needs 3 spots for next year anyway.

(I'm serious, if someone has twitter ask them please :D)
