Who Do You Think Will Opt Out of Worlds?

Jun Hwan Cha did not have the minimum TES for the Worlds at the time of the Korean National, so he was not a candidate for the World. What he withdrew from was the Junior World spot, not the senior one.

It looks like the biggest 'loss of talent' at this post-Olympic Worlds is in Ice Dance. I guess Yuzu's participation is still up in the air. I read conflicting info on different boards.

Why did he withdraw from Juniors? Does anyone know?

Bobrova/Soloviev are out, for now Zahorski/Gureiro are in.

Cappellini/Lanotte's chance for a medal looks more promising...

Z/G are being so lucky this season. And all those opportunities could be for S/K if they were not so fools.

An injury (Katsalapov's) has nothing to do with being "foolish."

Thanks for clarifying!

I assume Cha may have WD from Junior Worlds in order to rest his body/recover fully for next season.

WUT?? No Han Yan? When does he think he's going to win that world championship I predicted for him 5 years ago. :drama:

Very excited for Soucisse and Firus, and for Keegan Messing too. :kickass:

I love the Worlds right after an Olympics - its a chance for redemption for those who had a tough go at the O's, and it's nice to see some different faces at Worlds than we've been seeing for several years.

I would be saying the same about any team except S/K. Starting with them doing lifts that obviously they are not enough prepared to do.

I love C/L, but can they really get past all three of H/D, C/B, and W/P? Even with home Worlds inflation I'm not sure they're at that point. They got their "farewell present" in 2014 IMO.

Comments like this make me hope that C&L crush those teams, particularity C&B. There is *nothing* other than being from the US that makes C&B superior to C&L. Nothing.

Hopefully Sharron Rodgers doesn't make the judging panel and they'll have a fair shot. Guignard and Fabbri too.

They finished ahead of Chock/Bates and Weaver/Poje at the Olympics.
Exactly, so why can't they finish above them again? That just leaves P/C, I hope we are all not still under the impression that the Shibs are skating at worlds again lol

From chapis's post in the Shibs thread:

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2018/02/the-shibutanis-admit-they-do-get-sick-of-each-other-sometimes

WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU? ARE YOU PLANNING ON COMPETING AT THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN MID-MARCH?
M: We’ll make a decision in the next few days with worlds. It’s been very exciting to see the amount of enthusiasm and excitement based on the Olympic success. It will really just depend on the timing and the opportunities we have.

ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT 2022 YET?
A: Only because everyone’s been asking us! It was one of the first or second questions we got in the mixed zone after winning an Olympic medal. We were asked in 2014, and we said, “We don’t know what the future holds!” and that somehow turned into the headline that the Shibutanis may retire.

In other words, we might as well wait a few days and let them decide and tell us.

Love that b/s aren’t going!! Time to reform Russian ice dance. Have them learn about ijs! No more running on fumes with b/s! Now one spot for 2019 likely.

They just did get past two of them.

Wow, this is what happens when I post too early in the morning. For some reason I was thinking WP beat them at the Olympics. I was thinking of BS but accidentally conflated the two, thanks for the correction!

You won't hear an argument from me there. CB have never been favorites of mine and I frankly prefer CL. I was just wondering out loud about the judges' marks.

Had C/B not fallen on their spin at the Olys, they likely would have scored higher than C/L overall. They (and H/D) beat them at the GPF and it wasn't just the U.S. judge who scored them higher. In the Olys SD, C/L had the advantage (as did B/S) of skating in the last group. We'll see what happens at Worlds. I would expect C/L to be on the podium in their home country, maybe as high as silver, depending on how others skate and how much S/B's scores go up as RUS #1, but I wouldn't say they are definitively superior to all 3 teams named above.

Yeah maybe s/b will be as high as 5th! The apparent ceiling for Russia number one now. B/s fifth at worlds and Olympics so either fifth was as high as it gets for them or maybe s/b will do worse? Or better?

The skaters/teams who have officially opted out of Worlds or are not listed in the initial entry lists published on Feb. 28 (among those who competed at Olympics) are:

PAIRS
Duhamel/Radford CAN (replaced by Camille RUEST / Andrew WOLFE)
I guess this confirms that I/M are not going to Worlds? They're still listed as possible substitutes on the ISU entry list and are no longer listed on the Worlds Wikipedia site. Neither of them seem to have made a comment on Twitter or Wikipedia, though.

Well C/B fell in the FD and that is the reason why they placed behind C/L. IMO results have shown they can place ahead of C/L even at home.

I fully hope and expect Chock/Bates and Hubbell/ Donahue to finish ahead of C/L at Worlds. Just my opinion.

@Also, Chock/Bates have slightly better lifts and spins than C/L. Also, they have more transitions.
