Notes:

I thought Coomes/Buckland were eligible for a GP based on the "return" clause (7th at 2016 Worlds) but did they or GBR fed. choose not to invoke it?

Ilinykh/Zhiganshin RUS (SB 8) have not confirmed their split; he reportedly is injured and I assume their names were not submitted for GP selection.

Kavaguti/Smirnov (SB 19) are still undecided about their competitive status, according to Tamara Moskvina who was quoted in a recent article.

Let the TBD speculations begin!

For pairs, TBD USA I would think will be Cain/LeDuc, CAN Ruest/Wolfe, RUS Kavaguti/Smirnov (if they return?).
Strange that Alexandrovskaya/Windsor as reigning JrW champs didn't get any, but they are low on SB and standings list.
The Skate Canada pairs field looks crowded/exciting!

Here are my guesses for TBD for Skate Canada (the event I'm attending)

Pairs: Ruest/Wolfe, Jones/Reagan
Men: Nic Nadeau, Liam Firus
Women: No clue
Dance: nice of them to name Soucisse/Firus from the get go; love them and looking forward to seeing them in person

The ice dance selection looks a bit ?? (but it probably makes sense checking the SBs and world standings?)

For example Fournier-Beaudry/Sorensen and Parsons with only one GP, no Hurtado/Khaliavin or Min/Gamelin, but two spots e.g. to Pogrebinsky/Benoit and Abachkina/Thauron, one for Kuzmichova/Sinicyn.
I guess the TBD Skate America should go to the Parsons.

Sav/Mass at SKAM. Damn. I wanna go! I don't like SKAM being over the thanksgiving weekend because that's an excellent one for staying up really late, but I'll manage the late events. It's pre-Olympics and things get serious.

I just hope for the men and women's spots SC chooses from the skaters who actually skate BOTH programs in the early season and for the women, land a 3/3 in the short and for the men land at least a 3A if not quad in the short.

For the men that would mean that Firus would actually have to compete both programs in a single comp, which would be shocking for him in the early season.

For the women I see the front runners as being Sarah Tamura, Larkyn Austman, and Alicia Pinealt with a dark horse being McKenna Colthorp if she shows up with more jumps and rocks the house. She is, IMHO, by far the best "skater" of the group. I give the edge to Sarah because she the only one with all the triples and a 3/3.

Will have to really look at these tonight when I am home. My first impression is the men's field at Rostelecom is very interesting.

Early season showdown with Hanyu and Chen. Think I will be taking that weekend off.

DAMN.. I didn't get to prepare for this magnificent morning....

First I see USA is decimated in pairs... wow.... not even Castelli & Tran got a second assignment.

So Australia is staying juniors???? I was hoping they would go to seniors....

In Dance.. only 1 for Denmark and NONE for Coomes & Buckland?

Nice to see some junior dance teams moving to Seniors...

But both junior French teams got 2 assignments and Parsons and M&C only got 1? Both French teams are ranked higher than the Americans?

Ladies in China looks like an ABSOLUTE bloodbath. (good luck to Gracie.)

Im at work.... I woulda taken the day off had I known they were coming today....ergggggg... Seriously, How come no one mentioned this was happening today???? Seriously this day is a holiday (work shut down) day in my house...........

Added later: Nagasu gonna need them 3axels.. her fields are tough too...... :(

SO who's out in ladies: Hicks, Helgesson... who else?

I see Ashley Wagner got the "Michelle Kwan" assignments. Do you think she asked for them?

Also, what qualified Farris to get that assignment? Dont get me wrong, Im pleased as punch but didn't expect him on the grid.

Do we expect Ge's assignments to become up for grabs?

Thank-you for all this work...I really am challenged with all the rules but I thought only host country had 3 entries in a gp event. Russia has 3 ladies in most gp's. What is the rule as far as entries go? tks

No it's 3 max at all events. So the max spots any country could get is 18 spots across the entire series (3 spots x 6 events). Junior GP is different though.

When these are first announced I think "The US can't beat these people. The Japanese are so deep in singles. Why so few US pairs? US dance strong but V/M and P/C are a lock." Then the season starts and the surprises begin. A bad skate from a Japanese man opens a podium spot for an American. New Japanese women show their inexperience and are down the list. Etc., etc. I remember when Tuk was thought to be unbeatable. But, there was Diva Wagner winning SC (?). Not wishing anyone bad luck, but it always surprises me when things turn out opposite to what was expected.

Gracie with 2 spots. She's all in then and Zoueva is keeping her? Courtney Hicks got nothing. She's continuing? Also, I think Angela Wang got something last year, no? Marai early in season usually not so good. They're trying to get her moving earlier? Zhang will probably pick up a B.

I was a little surprised Max got 2. Ross got nothing. Dolinsky got nothing. I like Grant a lot, but would it be better to use a spot for someone up-and-coming? Do we have anybody?

Nothing for Cain/LeDuc. They don't have enough points? In general, I guess USFG not so happy with pairs situation.
-----------------------------
So Kavaguti and Smirnov are retiring I guess. They were a great team, but they've been at it a long time and she's pretty beat-up.

I'm working today so I will have to look more later but I am so excited to see Farris get an assignment and hope he can still get the SA TBA. I really thought that would be his only option.

I am surprised to see both Ashley & Karen at SA and SC.

Still considering SA since it is driving distance for me.

No assignments for Lip :(
Can't say I'm surprised but still disappointed for her.

Having said that, THRILLED for Farris getting a comeback assignment and would love to see him get the Skate America TBA, especially because I'm still considering going :D
Word is that she's retired and won't even be doing show skating due to injury.

I think some Ice Dance assignments are questionable. Smart/Diaz have one spot but Sara and Kirill have no spot? No spot for Coomes/Buckland? One spot for Beaudry/Sorensen and Nazarova/Nikitin, but teams that didn't even qualify for the Free at Worlds, like Lauriault/LeGac and Muramoto/Reed, get two spots? Two spots for new seniors Abachkina/Thauron and Loboda/Drozd? Two spots as well for Pogrebinsky/Benoit, considering the fact that there are a million top US Dance teams right now? Two spots for floppers Sinitsina/Katsalapov who finished 10th at Euros? Really? Dear ISU, you can do better than that.
