UPDATED: OMFG . . . Adam Rippon, Tonya Harding and Mirai Nagasu are on the DWTS' all-athlete cast

Tonya's story was more than 20 years ago. It's time to let her move on. Michael Vick got his chance after doing something much worse. Let's let her have her moment-- after all, she is a huge part of the reason why skating was so popular back in its American heyday.

Well, I have never missed a season. Not so sure about watching this time. I detest Harding with such a passion that I honestly have to say that she may be the straw that breaks this camel's back.

Since the thread from OTBT has been merged with this one in GSD, will this be the thread for discussion about all the contestants once it premiers on April 29? Or will this be just for comments about the skaters on the show?

Angie, I know how it feels to be confused - I'm often that way until my husband explains things. You seem like a nice gal so maybe you just also need a nice husband to help you get through the confusion. I met my lovely Corky at a retreat my parents sent me to after some unfortunate experimentation in my youth. I hope you can find someone as great as him.

You are right, Adam's partner is a cutey, I wish I could watch but of course, my husband and I are boycotting. I invite the rest of you to join us.

Im a dude. Angela (Angie) Nikodinov was a US figure skater. You should check her out.

I thought you met him at the truck stop on Interstate 47? Fess up toots, we know it.

I'm sure there are a lot of people who have not forgiven Michael Vick and will keep commenting about it every time there's news of another opportunity that he has. I remember about a year ago, 30,000 people signed a Change.org petition to stop Vick from playing. I do think some people are open to write pieces to forgive Vick because he has shown remorse and acknowledged his role in running a dog fighting ring, and did some hard time for it so there's a feeling of responsibility, remorse, and that he paid his debt to society. As one article put it, "It would be understandable if Vick was still awaiting trial, or was unrepentant, or arrogant, or showed no signs that incarceration and humiliation had changed him. But that’s not the case."

That doesn't stop people from thinking he shouldn't be allowed to play in the NFL though.

Ray Rice is also another figure that people seem to haven't forgiven yet though I'm sure there are some who are pushing for it and think he shouldn't be punished forever for beating his girlfriend.

In all seriousness though, I think most people here who are less enthused with Tonya are more angry at the rewriting of events, annoyance with Tonya herself, and the further demonization of Nancy and Tonya’s other contemporaries and the skating world in general in equally simple and discriminatory ways that others argue Tonya was a victim of in order to propel Tonya’s rehabilitation of her reputation.
This sounds very serious.

There is a special place in hell for people who have abused animals. :EVILLE:

If Vick has shown remorse, I don't believe it is genuine. This is a man who found tremendous joy and excitement in watching the suffering of animals. His debt was to those animals, but he can't bring back life to those whose deaths he was responsible for. Nor can he take their suffering away.

Tonya Harding received a lifetime ban from the USFA for allegedly being involved in an injury to one skater. Vicks caused suffering and death to animals. I think that likewise merits a lifetime ban.

Kevin Spacey's career is done because of his abuse of juveniles. IMO abuse of animals should not be taken any less seriously.

Unfortunately, animal rights are not advancing that quickly SFAIK.

Good point - once the show starts, it would be great to have a dedicated thread in OTBT for the episode discussions

I could not agree more. Michael Vick has shown no understanding of that the torture of living creatures was wrong.:angryfire

When the Eagles signed that wretched excuse for a human being as their QB, and then he actually started, and played, I did not watch the games. I just couldn’t. The only seasons ever that I did not bleed green.

If I am supposed to feel toward Tonya the way I feel toward the Dog Torturer, then Tonya is out of luck....

I think I read one of the reasons DWTS only gets 4 weeks is because American Idol's 2-a-week time slot took DWTS time slot. If that's correct, I wish they would have just scrapped a Spring season all together and just waited until Fall for a full season. What's the point of a 7 hour season!!! Even if it does have Adam and Mirai! I would have rather they killed the short season, lock up Adam and Mirai for the Fall, and let them do a full season.

Good grief, isn't there anyone taller than Lindsey that they could have put with Kareem?!

I feel bad for Sasha. He gets his slot back after getting dropped to the Troupe and he ends up with her. ::blah: Typically, I usually end up voting for my favorite Pros in the early rounds because really, who cares. :P But sorry Sasha, you won't be getting any votes from me, and there won't be time for that anyway with only 4 episodes! Adam and Mirai will have to battle it out for my votes. Best one gets 'em.

Not surprising, given the zeitgeist. Perhaps she'll get a guest spot on the new "Roseanne."
She did do an episode of Roseanne's old talk show. As far as actually acting, she's done a little bit (breakaway, a boxing movie, episode of Arli$$, world's dumbest etc), but she's a far better skater than actress. She did hold her own doing skits on world's dumbest with legendary former child stars Bonaduce, Bridges, and Garrett.

Let her enjoy the spotlight from the movie. She can have fun on dtws, earn a little bit to provide for her son, etc. It looks likes she's slimmed down even more to do the show as well. I hope one day to see her skate again. I need to find a way to make that masters pro circuit happen, as well as revive the regular pro circuit. My idea for masters pros is short would be single or double axel, double/double or triple/double combo, and solo double or triple. Long would be single, double, or triple axel, combo (2/2, 3/2, or 3/3), 3 solo jumps (doubles or triples). There would be 3 spins in the short, and 4 in the long. 1 footwork sequence in the short, 1 footwork sequence and 1 moves (spirals, ina bauers, spread eagles, lunges) in the long). If I won the lotto, this would happen. Of course I would have hopes of Tonya, Surya, Midori, Irina, and possibly even Denise competing. For the regular pro circuit, I would start by reviving world pros, ice wars, challenge of champions, and the improve competition.

Apparently Lloyd Eisler was a bit tiffed that Tonya didn't remember him. Apparently he saw her recently, said hi, and she couldn't remember who he was. His wife retweeted his twitter post. He seems stunned that someone he went to worlds, Olympics, and toured on coi with him couldn't place him. Maybe he looked different - she probably haven't seen him since 99 (did B/E compete at espn pros? I think Calla and Rocky were there, and was that the event K/N skated over the rink lights?

A lot has happened in Tonya's life since '99. And she's been away from the skating world, so probably wouldn't have many opportunities to cross paths with Eisler.

Methinks he may have an overinflated sense of his own importance.

I saw his wife’s Twitter post too. She flat out stated Tonya was lying to his face. Whatever. Tonya didn’t even recognize Sharon Stone at The Golden Globes when she helped her on the red carpet.

@BaileyCatts I believe American Idol is on Fox and DWTS is on ABC, so there shouldn't be a conflict. I think I heard that DWTS was going to have a junior/kids version this season, with the shorter time frame, but for some reason it didn't come together in time so they decided to have an athletes version.

American Idol is now on ABC.

Why is there a contest between Michael Vick and Tonya Harding? What he did was horrible, disgusting....cruel..she and her merry band of thugs contemplated killing Nancy..Worthless, the both of them.

I keep reading this little factoid, however, other than hearsay from the likes of “bodyguard” Shawn Eckardt, I doubt there was ever much merit to it. The man was a fantasist blowhard tired of his lies not being taken seriously. That said, I’d love to read their (The 4 Boobs) FBI interviews.

What evidence do you have that they contemplated killing Nancy? Assault and murder aren't the same thing.

Also, in the case of Nancy there was a clear motive. The object wasn't to enjoy watching Nancy suffer. Of course this doesn't take away from the egregiousness of the assault.

Vick took pleasure in causing pain and suffering, and watching it - for a long time.

I run into people all the time that I don't recognize/remember. One time I was crossing the (busy) street in front of my local grocery store and these two middle-aged guys pulled up in a pickup truck. They knew my name. They knew where I went to high school and when I graduated. One of them said he was in my sister's class, which was one year behind mine. Then they drove off. I have no friggin' idea who those guys were! Tonya probably had a similar reaction to Lloyd.

there is a contest with Vick for the same reason Bobek kept coming up before: smoke and mirrors to throw people off track and make lame excuses for the evil deeds of one Tonya Maxine Harding because.. get this.. she’s not the only bad person in the world who did bad things so let’s just give her cash and celebrity because you know, it’s not like she shot Versace or something.

It’s very clear. People can wax poetically about animal torture all they want, or drug dealing but it will always be apples and oranges. There is no government sanctioned skater knee clubbing business that makes billions for millions nor is there centuries of history behind lazy fat athletes who decided to attack their rivals because they were afraid they’d gotten too fat and lazy to beat a 13 yo kid for second place at nats.

Tonya is famous because she is literally the only athlete in the world who decided that it was easier to try and ruin another skater’s career than get up at 6:00am, not smoke or drink, and just skate.
