UPDATED/CONFIRMED: Evgenia Medvedeva leaving Tutberidze for Orser

Who is moving to senior at Eteri’s group? I know Kostornaia isn’t as she’s the one I look forward to and follow

What happens if Evgenia turns out like Daleman, really muscular with huge jumps :D

Intersting question.. hmmmm... was I wrong?

I just don't like the double standard..

@bardtoob I was thinking about it..that would be very interesting.. Evgenia as the muscular Daleman!
I believe that would change her skating style..

Isn't Panenkova about to go senior?

Panenkova is old enough to go senior. Who knows if Rus. Fed will let her, though. Trusova, Kostornaia, and Tarakanova have to stay junior due to age.

ETA: Samodurova, Gubanova, and Guliakova are also aging into senior eligibility for Russia, but they are not coached by Eteri.

That might be some of the best news yet. I always thought she got lost in the shuffle this past Olympic season with some snoozy programs that did nothing to showcase her extension and power. Hopefully the right coaching team and choreographer can help with that. She's got talent to spare and I always enjoyed her skating.

So I think that leaves Zagitova as the only Senior left in the group? And who knows how motivated she will be given she has already achieved the pinnacle of success in the sport. I hope there's not too much pressure placed on her shoulders, and that she only continues on with this strict regimen if that is what she wants.

LOL, I wonder if Med struck a blow for freedom with her Kukushka program?
And Panenkova, if the federation let’s her go to seniors this season. She will be age eligible, but they don’t always let the skater move up.

Med comes off mature and measured and Zagitova comes off like the child she is in their respective interviews

That's true, Zagitova does comes across as way more childish, but her responses also sound quite innocent and with no extra. Medeveva sounds sort of peeved to me if she doesn't like the questions.. (I'm not saying she should, journalists ask some nasty questions)

I watched her face closely and she was cool as a cucumber in that short interaction. They asked her about when the last straw was that led her to her decision to leave Tutberidze. She said she’d rather not answer and good for her. Well done, Med!

“I want a long career for myself and that’s why these changes are happening in my life - Evgenia said - you can not even imagine how I’ m feeling right now, I’m more motivated than I have ever been before. I‘m not afraid of moving to Canada or of the language barrier or that I’ll feel myself uncomfortable there. I hope my English is good enough and I’ll be able to communicate with people”

And Zhenya has

Maybe she talked about middle of April? BTW , I don't care of it anymore.. Good luck Evgenia!

If only you would give 18 year old Evgenia the same benefit of the doubt that you always give to Plushenko.

I think Evgenia handled this the best she could in the current circumstances. I'm not a huge fan of her skating but her grit and taking this huge step to uproot herself to go to a totally new country and train is really respectable. I wish her all the luck and that she will be injury free and healthy from now on. We have excellent food and accomodations here in Toronto. Hope she likes it here.

 The lack of self awareness is .
Yeah, no kidding. ;)

I like this coaching change for Polina, it’s a good move on her part. I think she needs to be in an environment where she can shine and standout a little bit more than she was. Polina has such potential, and this will be the quad for her. I hope it all works out.

More likely she will remain lean but will definitely have strong muscles from the off-ice training. I read an interview with Yulia about when she left Eteri and felt dead for a few weeks due to the off-ice training until she got used to it.

When I saw that program, I knew Medvedeva was trying to communicate something. I know you are kidding, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if there is some truth to what you are saying. Being abroad so much, and talking or other skaters, must have given Med some ideas about you know... freedom.

I know you were not inferring otherwise, but I feel it is important to point out that Daleman is also extremely lean, as in not an ounce of body fat. Because Gabby has noticeable muscles, people often assume she isn’t extremely lean and I would hate for her to think that anyone thinks that. Skaters have enough negative crap thrown at them.

Gabby is body goals, lol. I hope she knows it.

I did not discuss Gabby's weight or how she looks. She is perfect the way she is. Med's bone structure is very different and muscles may or may not be obvious and I am not going say anything further about Med's body for the same reason I don't want to discuss Gabby's. It is immaterial and none of my business. We all work with what we have and should never go beyond being healthy to please someone else...I for instance would be much healthier if I drop 50 lbs overnight.

I wonder if Evgenia won't gain weight, the people will say Orser doesn't let Zhenya to eat? Oh, I don't believe it...Only Eteri can do that..Under Orser that will be genetic, Evgenia is very lucky with her body type..:D

I'll be surprised if she gains any significant weight. Hanyu, Yuna, and Javier didn't. I think Orser escapes that criticism because so far his top skaters have been developed by other coaches. He seems to have a talent for improving their fitness in spite of their restrictive diets. He had a very tiny physique himself during his competitive years.

Hmmmm...Interesting sentence I always give to every person in figure skating..but I can't tell this about the majority of the posters.

Eteri is a liar, she doesn't deserve anything, she has no soul, she doesn't care about her pupils's soul , she is the worst coach, she abuses her pupils, her pupils have eating desorders, she doesn't care about her pupils' health, she teaches bad technic, she had plastic surgery and she uses botox, she is so cold, she wanted Evgenia to win, poor Alina, she doesn't care about the SS of her skaters..she had bad taste in choreography: Evgenia's mimic is not artistry, so annoying...:)

Evgenia did everything perfectly.

I hope I became a good girl.:saint:

There are several juniors who will move to senior next year. I think the group will do just fine.

It doesn't matter who one's coach is. One still has to be top three at Russian nationals to make the European/World or Olympic team. I've yet to see a coaching change make that happen if the skater doesn't have the more difficult jumps. It's just how it is.

Well it will be interesting to see how the Russian fed scores a skater with a Canadian as a coach.

Relations turn bitter between Russia's top figure skaters
Russian coach suggests silver medallist Medvedeva wanted Olympic champion Zagitova barred from Pyeongchang

"Eteri Tutberidze, who coached gold medallist Alina Zagitova and silver medallist Evgenia Medvedeva, says Medvedeva has frozen her out. She also suggests Medvedeva wanted Zagitova barred from the Olympics."

"There was this really childish phrase: 'Couldn't you have kept Alina in the juniors for one more year?"' Tutberidze quoted Medvedeva, who is nicknamed Zhenya, as saying. "I said, 'Zhenya, what?' We have to give everyone the same chance. You have to in sport. We don't have the right to hold a person back."

"Her sudden departure has sparked speculation in Russia that she may be preparing to retire or to switch her allegiance to Armenia, for which she might be eligible thanks to her Armenian biological father."

You're behind... this was the Associated Press article that was published earlier today based on the Channel One Russian TV news report that aired yesterday.

Google translation of the quote before the one translated above:
"Yes, now I will live and train in North America," said the sportswoman, "As for the [rumored] change of sports citizenship, it's absolute nonsense. All the normal and sane people understand this perfectly well that it does not concern me. I will live in Canada, I just have to change my place of residence for an indefinite period."

ETA: Love her "normal and sane people" comment!

I'm just so excited about the possibilities with a new choreographer. It was never her skating so much I didn't like as her programs. They always felt a little "jam packed" to me -- which some people prefer -- but I like programs with a bit more "space" in them, time for moments to take place, breaths and stretch. Really looking forward to some great things!

I lost respect a lot for Eteri with the way she handled things. She can’t have it both ways. She wants the right to coach as many talents as possible and have champ after champ and in some ways I think internal competition helps. But she cannot he surprised or upset when her students get angry because their coach is coaching their biggest competition. She could have let Med leave with class. And airing out a potentially private competition after a young girl just lost something she worked towards her entire life is so so classeless. If Med said it she said it privately while being sweet to her competitor it is really wrong.
