US entries for Golden Spin were updated this morning - https://results.isu.org/events/cscro2022_Women.htm

Lindsay Thorngren replaces Isabeau Levito! I'm really happy about this because Lindsay's been slowly building back up from her disastrous Finlandia season opener and this is a good opportunity for her to end the fall season on a really positive note.
I'm happy for Lindsay as well, but I am a bit surprised. Amber, Starr, Audrey and Ava all have higher Season's Best scores, and none of them got 2 challengers either. They must really believe in Lindsay's long-term potential.

Ava is one of the three US women assigned to Golden Spin (original assignments were Levito, Tennell, & Ziegler), and this will be her 3rd international.

Amber is sitting at #12 on the SB list currently, and Audrey is sitting at #11 on the WS currently. While both of those lists are likely to change, Amber's score would put her at #36 last season with 15 Russians ahead of her, so even if we see some significant shifts in the Championship season, she's probably good for SB Top 24 and at least 1 GP next season. Hard to predict how much the WS will change before the end of the season, but one more Challenger isn't going to get Audrey to the Championships half of the season and the points she'll need to stay in the WS Top 24.

I could make an argument in favor of giving Starr another assignment since she's sitting at #21 on the SB right now and probably won't remain in the Top 24 without making it to the Championships half of the season, but if I was making that argument, I'd rather see Bradie passed over than Lindsay, especially when you consider that Bradie's SB (163.98 Espoo) is still lower than Lindsay's lowest score, and Lindsay's scores have been steadily rising to a somewhat competitive level (165.09 Finlandia, 176.09 SCI, 183.23 Espoo).
This is very short notice. Maybe because Lindsay is in Europe now and the others may have been home for Thanksgiving, given their expected schedules.
Golden Spin isn't until next week, so I'm sure Lindsay flew home from Helsinki rather than remaining in Europe for 10 days. I doubt Thanksgiving had anything to do with it - and chances are they had already made the decision that Lindsay would be assigned to Golden Spin once NHK was over and Isabeau officially qualified for the GPF.

Wren Warne-Jacobsen will be on Team USA at World University Games in Lake Placid in January, per announcement from her training group.

Nice for Wren to have another competition (and another international) this season.
(She did not qualify for Nats.)

Opening ceremony: Jan 12, 7 - 9 pm
Women SP: Jan 14, 1 - 6 pm
Women FS: Jan 15, 7 - 10:50 pm

Look forward to hearing who else will represent USA.
USFS had asked skaters to express formal interest by September, and said that it would select up to three entries for each discipline: women, men, ice dance. They must meet criteria at link below.
(The event is not holding competition for pairs.)

I'm also curious to see who else they assign. Honestly, I'm not even sure who would be eligible (in any of the disciplines, especially dance). Would they send someone who is going to Nats? Lots of questions.

USFS updated their int'l assignments page today - Ting Cui and Finley Hawk are the other two women assigned to represent the US at this competition.

I was hoping for Audrey Lu. :D

If(?) Audrey Lu had interest, USFS would have had to bend its published process for her.

"For all events, the selection committee will consider the athletes’ three highest scores from the National Qualifying Series.* Athletes and alternates will be determined upon the conclusion of the last NQS event and verification of the national standings.

*Can be substituted by international competition, if assigned to attend by the International Committee."

All U.S. entries (in all disciplines) do have NQS scores. (And some also have international scores.)

Speaking of Audrey Lu ... she and Goku Endo (who is one of the U.S. men assigned to World University Games :)) will give skating performances tonight (on artificial ice) at a UCLA winter block party. @uclafigureskating Instastory has information.

Phil Hersh's pre-Grand Prix Final article on Isabeau:
Excerpt:
The skater, a home schooler who will finish the tenth grade this month, has been brushing up on Italian with help from both Duolingo and her mother, Chiara Garberi, a native of Milan who moved from Italy to the United States in 1997.
“Growing up, my mother always spoke to me in Italian, and I would reply in English,” Levito said. “Now I think, `Why did I do that?’ I still understand everything in Italian, but when I open my mouth to speak, a lot of the vocabulary escapes me. I’m kind of relearning Italian. I’m getting there.”
Levito is likely to get to the 2026 Olympics, even if such predictions are risky with more than three years before those next Winter Games. At this point, with all three U.S. women’s singles skaters from the 2022 Olympic team having stopped competing, either permanently or temporarily, Levito is clearly the leading U.S. woman.
That means she will go to the 2023 U.S. Championships as the title favorite. It is a far different position from last season, when Levito was not old enough for Olympic consideration and could skate without the pressure of trying to make the team.
“I’m not concerned about the attention from being a favorite,” she said. “I’m just really excited to hopefully do better than last year.”

After Bradie and Lindsay looking good at Golden Spin and Isabeau getting a little less love from the judges at GPF (along with Starr having an unusually good start to the season and Amber showing high scoring potential) the race for the US Ladies world team is really heating up!

A detail re Ting Cui and World University Games:
Earning the assignment to the event was one of her main goals for this season, per Dec 8 press release re Team USA figure skating contingent.

Two U.S. figure skaters are hoping that the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games will be the launching pad to regaining their form after years lost to injury. Ting Cui, from Pikesville, Md. who attends Middlebury College, and Nathan Chapple of Solon, Ohio, who attends Cuyahoga Community College, are healthy and have high hopes for the FISU Games, held every two years. ...

For Cui, the Games represent a return to international competition after a promising career was sidetracked by a twice-injured ankle, subsequent minor injuries and the pandemic.

The 2018 U.S. junior bronze medalist and 2019 World Junior bronze medalist now juggles training with school after enrolling at Vermont’s Middlebury College. Cui said making the U.S. team was her main goal this season.

“I’ve been trying to get back into things since 2019,” said Cui, 20, an international and global studies major. “When I made it, it was really exciting that I had finally met one of my goals that I set for the season for like the first time in a while. I had it in my mind, like ‘OK, this seems really attainable for me. It’s such a great opportunity for college athletes. I really want to go to the University Games.’” ...
