U.S. Ice Dance 2022-23 news & updates

I do think both teams will be giving the other teams in places 6-10 in the US a run for their money!
They've both already surpassed Ling/Wein. I would expect both teams to be able to outscore Cesanek/Yehorov too. I'd be very curious if they're able to beat the Browns, who are currently the lowest scoring among that general group. I'm excited to see Zingas/Kolesnik compete at Golden Spin next month once Emilea is allowed to compete for the US. I'm worried that Ivan hasn't been released, since he hasn't been added to ISP, while Z/K are on it. Ideally, both teams would be able to compete at Golden Spin.

Ivan last competed for Belarus in 2021. even with release, doesn't he have to wait a year, or is it two now? I lost track :drama:

His last competition for BLR was Sept 2021, IIRC, so he has sat out the year and should be able to get a release from their fed. I'm sure the USFS has their people working on it.

Lol none! I’ve just been in a foreign country working for two years without much by the way of internet connection and I came back and I am genuinely stunned they’re still competing lol

So which other U.S. dance team are you related to?
It's easy enough to figure that answer out, and while I am a huge fan of said team, I'm not a fan of that post because I don't think Chock/Bates overstayed their welcome by "at least five years" - they were still in the the thick of things this entire last quad along with HubDon.

No, they’ve been around way too long. I don’t even know what could possibly be driving them at this point apart from fear of moving on. Skating skills have been stagnant for at least a decade, programs aren’t especially fresh or inspired, they haven’t improved for years, they don’t look hungry to be out there. Their last outing just screamed lack of heart, especially from Evan. Why are they even still in it?

Presumably to win a world title and to give Hawayek/Baker a season to settle in as the leaders of US ice dance for the rest of the quad. I have a feeling they'll retire after this season if they win Worlds.

Staying in for a title seems misguided to me. What are they going to do if they don't win? Stay another year? Another two years? Another quad? You can't be motivated only by the hardware, it's not enough.

All I can say is that I'll be so sad for whichever team out of C/P and G/P doesn't make it to Worlds. I like them both so much. Hope they both have lots of chances to go in the future, though there's such an incredible depth of young talent in U.S. dance that they'll have to stay on their toes!

Skate America wasn’t a great start to this season, but their programs the last 2-3 seasons were very well-received and they made a pretty significant competitive comeback beginning in 2019. If you either have an axe to grind or haven’t been following competitive ice dance in a few years, just say so.

What makes you think they won't win? They were clearly under-prepared at SkAm, but let's see how they look next week, with another 4 weeks of training under their belts, before we declare them cooked and done.

I really like G/P, but C/P looks good enough that if they are rocking both segments, I'd say sure, a trip to worlds. They are fairly young and they should push each other to excellance.

Lol, i think they are staying because they still love to compete and oh, let’s see, they had two of the most talked about free dances of the last two seasons.
I wonder if Evan has been injured because he didn’t seem himself at Skate America.

I don't know why you're acting like it's a certainty they'll win. The world title has never been a gimme for anyone, even with the depleted field this year.

Nobody’s acting certain about anything. We’re just acting like the top-ranked team from last year’s Worlds might reasonably expect to be among the contenders for the title this season. It wouldn’t hurt to google some recent results, because “they haven’t won anything in years lol” probably isn’t the most effective trolling tactic in this case. Brush up on some recent history and I’m sure you can come up with some trash talk that’s not completely untethered from reality.

I can’t believe Chock and Bates are still competing. Talk about overstaying your welcome by at least five years.
I vaguely remember your posts but not caring enough to search backwards. This is such a classic MAGA tone, lol. The whole “own the libs.” Congrats.

I am generally of the mindset that no one needs to retire to make room for youngsters. Rather, let the youngsters defeat the veterans if they skate better.

OTOH, I do find it ironic that when Bates was asked how they could close the gap against Davis/White at a press conference back in 2014, he said, Well, you are going to retire, right?" (paraphrase) while he's now had 4 Olympic trips.

So, presuming that Flores/Desyatov don't have his release from BLR yet, who do we bribe at the USFS to assign three teams to Golden Spin? Obviously, we need to see how Zingas/Kolesnik score internationally, but I need an international showdown between GrePar and CarPon, ASAP, ahead of Nats, pretty please, lol.

Their GPs aren't head to head but they each one more and I think we'll learn a lot from that.

I think this is a great idea actually. I'd love to see how Carreira/Ponomorenko and Green/Parsons fare head to head in an international competition.

We've already talked about whether or not Desyatov has his release from BLR since Flores/Desyatov haven't been added to the ISP yet. Either way, seems like a sure bet that Zingas/Kolesnik will be assigned to Golden Spin. The USFS has also added Santa Claus Cup (Thanksgiving weekend in Budapest - Women, Men & Dance), so it's possible they'll assign Ling/Wein to that and possibly Koncius/Shchepetov - or no teams at all.

** - still have at least one GP this fall (and GPF likely for ChoBat & HawBak)
