The Voice - Fall 2018

My brain would get confused trying to sing that because I've heard both songs forever. I would think I would keep trying to revert back and forth between the originals.

It will be tough elimination tomorrow night. Everyone decent to pretty great tonight!

Well that was a first. Amazing Grace turned into House of the Rising Sun.

That was my favorite performance of the night. Others I loved were MaKenzie, Chevel, & Dave. I was surprised Kennedy wasn't higher on the list. It was the 1st time I liked her song choice. Reagan was ok but for me not as good as usual. I didn't like Kymberli's song choice but her voice is so beautiful I think she's safe. I FF'd thru Kirk & Chris. I never can decipher a word that Kirk sings & Chris was boring. I want to like DeAndre because he's from Houston & because his backstory is sad but he just doesn't hold my attention.

iTunes:
3. Sarah Grace
4. Kirk
15. MaKenzie
24. Chevel
37. Kymberli
43. Kennedy
47. Dave
63. Chris
111. Reagan
Did not chart - DeAndre

I think DeAndre is definitely going home but I don't know who else is in the bottom 2. I don't think it will be Reagan based on her previous chartings. I think Chris will be there & maybe Dave.

So glad I'm not the only one who finds Kirk supremely boring. I also honestly find MaKenzie boring. She sings extremely well, but to me it's robotic -- there's no emotion or interpretation of the songs. Actually, Dave bores me so much that I FF through him too.

I think it's a pretty weak season overall.

Tuning in after missing the last month. :P

I’m sure I’ll figure it out. I had a couple faves from the battle rounds but can’t remember who they are.

My cousin used to sing Amazing Grace to the tune of the Gilligan's Island Theme. :D

"Amazing Grace" is written in ballad meter. You can sing the lyrics of any song written in ballad meter to the tune of any other song written in ballad meter. You can also sing almost any Emily Dickinson poem to any of the tunes, too.

I do this all the time in poetry classes and have a long list of ballad meter songs. I can croak out an off-key version of "Amazing Grace" to a lot of them.

The worst, IMO, is trying to switch Christmas songs:
  • God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen
  • Joy to the World
  • It Came Upon the Midnight Clear
  • O Little Town of Bethlehem
  • While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks by Night
  • Angels We Have Heard on High
It's hard to do, but it's also hard to listen to the lyrics of one sung to the tune of another.

Try it and see. :EVILLE:

You didn’t miss much. If you haven’t seen it, I recommend Kymberli Joye’s Break Every Chain. Even if you’re not a gospel fan, that gurl sang it! And I recommend tvline.com/thevoice for the recaps.

I don’t know how you defend yourself if you’re too sick to sing, so I assume Reagan is a goner.

ETA what do I know.

This is a joke. How can someone who didn't sing beat the other two who sang? If I were the other two, I would be pissed off.

This is the first season where I haven't voted b/c none of the singers interest me. Maybe I'll vote in the finals.

I hated how tonight went but maybe not for the same reasons that people online seem to be losing their minds. I feel like Adam was in a lose-lose situation tonight. If he had gone all out and promoted Deandre and not said anything about Reagan, I think people would have been just as mad at him for ditching her as they seem to be for him sticking up for her when she couldn't sing for herself and not giving enough support for Deandre. There wasn't any good way for Adam to get through this situation at all IMO and I actually feel bad for everyone because I don't think any of them should have been put in that situation. I don't watch as regularly through the live rounds but has there ever been another time when someone was too sick to perform for their save on the results show? Someone online said that if the person couldn't sing, they should automatically be eliminated (which I don't think is fair). I honestly don't know. Reagan isn't perfect but I don't think she deserved to be in the bottom three from last night's show. No one has really stood out to me this season although they've all given at least one great performance in the live rounds. This winner is going to be tough!

Reagan certainly deserved to be in the bottom three. That song swallowed her whole and she was terrible and quite frankly was terrible last week, though nowhere near as bad as Monday night.

Adam was stuck between a rock and a hard place. It’s debatable whether someone should go home when they’re too sick to sing.

But having said that, I’d of have more respect for Adam if he said “ I gotta go with past results and my gut here and De’Andre, it’s the second week in the bottom etc...”

Dave did not deserve to be in the bottom this week, but he was going soon anyway so whatever.

Reagan being in the bottom was a pleasant surprise for me in terms of retaining whatever little integrity this competition still has.

I predicted her for final 2. But she better get it together.

But yeah generally this season is super meh and I predict whoever wins will have a nothing career.

And on another note: Also the styling on the female judges as always is atrocious.

Not sure if it’s their own personal stylists or the show but I’ve hated every season so far. On all female judges.

Blake is always generic and meh and Adam is Weird as usual.

I think Adam was damned either way. DeAndre is one of the better singers, but he hasn't caught on with viewers, obviously. There's no way he would have survived the bloodbath next week, whereas Reagan has a chance to get through to the finale.

I've been hearing pitchy in Reagan all along, I agree Nick is boring as a performer (nice voice though), and I don't know why DeAndre didn't catch on. I thought Kennedy was really fun this week, really liked Chevel (and I am not a country fan) and Sarah Grace. Kymberli is amazing, but I think gospel is limited scope as far as the fans go.

Reagan has been #1 on Apple streaming for 3 wks in a row so Monday was a fluke imo. To me that means she has a lot of fans who like what they hear. She may have already been getting sick when she sang Monday night. So why not show her Monday performance & then let voters decide? Adam then could have been neutral (which he should have been anyway). I really felt for DeAndre for having to stand there & listen to his coach throw him under the bus.

Of the 3, I prefer Dave even tho I'm not fond of country music. He has a lot of southern blues in his voice. Chris is the most boring there with Kirk a strong runner-up plus I can't understand a word he sings.

Adam is getting slammed online for his treatment of DeAndre. I thought it was poor form of him. He could have propped them both up and not basically tell viewers to not vote for one of his own. In the end he has doomed Reagan too by making viewers angry - although not singing probably doomed her for next week anyway. I don't understand how the Apple streaming seems to be so different from both the itunes charts and youtube views, as Reagan and Chris especially have not done well in those other formats. I enjoy team JHud the most even though I'm not the hugest JHud fan - I really like Kennedy and Mackenzie. Though I see Kirk or maybe even Chevel winning.

My biggest question is why was Reagan backstage in a bathrobe. If she was well enough to stand backstage in full makeup, she is well enough to wear real clothes.

:p:drama:
My thought was that she was barfing up a storm and they were fixing her makeup in between.

Why would viewers get angry at Reagan because Adam was being a jerk? He's a jerk like that at least once a season. I don't think she's doomed. It depends on what she does this week. I like JHud's team but both of them sing too old. Kennedy tried to sing something current but it didn't come off for me.

Are 4 leaving this week? If so my prediction for top 3 is Sarah Grace, Chevel, & Kirk. (He's not my preference but voters seem to like him.) #4 could be anyone, my choice would be MaKenzie but could be Kymberli or Kennedy or even Reagan. I don't think Chris has a prayer.

^They shouldn't get mad at Reagan because of Adam - it's not her fault. But people aren't reasonable. I already see so many jabs at her for no fault of her own. And people vote pro and con for coaches - they shouldn't but they do. So maybe she does have a shot, after all she did win the save without singing.

I think it does go to final four this week and I too am not sure who that final four will be, though I'd be shocked if Kirk wasn't one of them.

Anyone else watching The Voice tonight? I have few predictions for who will make it through tonight. This part of the show always freaks me out with half of them being eliminated. The ending always feels so abrupt every season. Next week is really the finale???

Sarah Grace is so talented, but I always forget about her. She has such a beautiful voice.

I'm probably in the minority, but I just can't get into Chevel. I liked her at the beginning, but now not so much.

I don't think that Reagan will make it to the final four but I thought she did a really great job with both of her songs tonight. I also enjoyed McKenzie (although she got a little wild at times during the runs in that Mariah Carey classic), Sarah Grace was solid, and I thought Kennedi did a pretty good job with "This Is Me" although I kept comparing her to Kaela who she didn't come close to matching IMO. Overall its been a pretty great night of singing by everyone. The cut is gonna be tough no matter what happens.

BTW-I've been feeling for weeks that the background music and singers have been overpowering some of the artists and that was apparent again tonight. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just hearing things? I feel like the sound has just been off ever since they started the live shows.
