The Voice - Fall 2018

That was a soul-chilling version of Because of You. I never realized it was a song about Kelly’s parents.

She did a FANTASTIC job with that song! Abbie is from Cincinnati so I was rooting extra hard for her and I'm so glad Kelly picked her to win that knockout. The other Cincy person was the guy on JHud's team who hit that ridiculously amazing high note (I actually thought he did better than the guy Jennifer chose) but was sent home.

I started out liking that Cinn guy but felt some of his runs & high notes were more in the nature of showing off rather than what the song called for.

Bev McLellan, a season one finalist, has died. She was 49. Cancer sux.

I remember her well. Her battle partner - Nakia- made a statement about how devastated he is. I loved her voice. RIP Beverly.

Well, the teams are complete. I'm ready for the live shows. I was glad Colton was stolen back by JHud. He's such a showman. Overall this may be the weakest season for personalities. At least Colton has a pulse, along with Michael Lee - the show's rocker. I'm a sucker for rockers who have a mighty scream. His is as good as Steven Tyler's.

Live show tonight...

Maybe it's me, but I think most people sound a little off key tonight (the 2 blues/rocker guys from Blake's team sounded in tune). Nerves? I'm not hearing correctly?

Yeah, no one really impressed me much tonight and I felt like a few were off key at times. I also felt like it was too much to have all 25 artists sing on one night. I couldn't remember anything about the first half hour of the show by the time it ended at 10 PM.

Everyone I've talked to feels the same. They all sang much better in the Battles & Knock-outs. I'm sure it must have been nerves. The one who sang almost up to her potential (IMO) was MaKenzie on Jennifer's team. She needs better styling but her voice is both strong & angelic. The other female powerhouses who were supposed to dominate were Kymberli on Kelly's team & SandyRedd on Jennifer's team but I thought both were awful. I had to FF SandyRedd's screeching. Kennedy didn't screech but IMO is very overrated at this point. She has one of the best voices but to me she sounds like a teen who needs some seasoning. No one really impressed me. It will be interesting to see who America votes for.

I don't know what the heck Adam was thinking to choose Tyke. He hasn't had one good performance since the Blinds, where he was only mediocre.

Adam does that every time. He connects with a contestant for some reason & never changes his opinion no matter if that person does badly from then on. And why did Jennifer pick SandyRedd.? There's a reason she's never made it in any other venue. She has a good voice but she's too bombastic for my taste. And those strings of yarn in her hair! Ugh!

I was playing bridge yesterday while discussing The Voice & one of the men said he was watching because his neighbor was on: Michael Lee. Michael was one of my favorites so I was sorry he didn't make it. I knew if he didn't get the votes that Blake wouldn't choose him.

The teams:

Blake: Kirk, Chris, his pick - Dave

Adam: DeAndre, Reagan, his pick - Tyke

Kelly: Chevell, Sarah Grace, her pick - Kymberli, comeback pick - Lynnea

Jennifer: MaKenzie, Kennedy, her pick - SandyRedd

I don't think this is Blake's year. Of his team I prefer Dave but has anyone ever won who didn't get thru on votes? I don't think so. My favs FTW are Reagan (Adam) or Makenzie (Jennifer) or Chevell (Kelly). Other maybes (IMO) are DeAndre, Sarah Grace, & Kennedy. The voters don't seem to prefer the big voices this year. I was hoping JHud would pick Patrique - he connected with me a lot more than SandyRedd or Kymberli or Kirk have.

^ they were.

The night in general was disappointing.

Poor song choices, off key performances. Lots of over singing.

Unsurprisingly the teen girls made it through. Though a touch surprised about Sarah Grace.

Sad to see Michael Lee go as well as Park Ranger Guy.

So far I’m rooting for Curtis I think. I also like Mackenzie.

I don't remember a Curtis. Whose team is he on?

I’m probably getting his name wrong.
He’s the African American country singer.
Think he’s fantastic, though I’m not a fan of country.

I think you're talking about Kirk on Blake's team.

Not The Voice news, but Adam Lavine (my fav The Voice judge) & Maroon 5 have been asked not to perform at the NFL half-time show for the superbowl in support of Kapurnick (1st player who took a knee).

By whom?

Double post, different subject -

Last night's show (Tribute Night) was much better than last week's. Almost everyone sang better than last week, even Tyke. I esp liked Cevel, MaKenzie, & Sarah Grace. DeAndre & Kirk sounded good but there was nothing original about their song choices or how they sang them. Lynnea was a little better but still shaky & not very good.

iTunes:
#10 Kirk - I'm Already There
#23 Reagan - You Say
#24 Tyke - Everything I Do (I Do It For You)
#38 Chevel - Little White Church
#56 Chris - Let It Bet
#81 Kennedy - Wind Beneath My Wings
#124 Sarah Grace - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
#16 DeAndre - I Can Only Imagine

So only 8 of the 13 even charted - Kymberli, SandyRedd, Dave, Lynnea, & MaKenzie (big surprise for me) may be in jeopardy. But this early in the season the eliminations are always a surprise.

Youtube views are high for Sandy (3rd) and Makenzie (2nd). Kennedy has by far the most. Dave has the lowest, followed by Tyke, Sarah, Lynnea, and Deandre.

When I posted above I didn't know they were using youtube views as votes. I don't know how # of views count. Also I showed DeAndre as #16 on iTunes downloads instead of #146.

The bottom 3 were my choice to be there (that never happens!) but Lynnea was so much better in the sing-off that I was glad she got one more week at least. Sandy & Tyke were much worse IMO than the night before than it was no surprise they went home.

YouTube views dont count, I just use them as another way to gauge interest. Often times they don't correspond at all to how it turns out...but ultimately the hawaii voting was maybe not so ready to be voting for tyke...at that time of day

I read an article from Lyndsey Parker this morning that said youtube views counted this year for the 1st time. I don't know if that's true. She usually has good inside info.

This week's rankings
itunes/youtube views

Kymberli 1/2
Kennedy 2/1
Chevel 3/4
Chris 4/11
Makenzie 5/3
Kirk 6/5
Reagan 7/6
Sarah 8/9
Deandre 9/7
Dave 10/10
Lynnea 11/8

Well that was a first. Amazing Grace turned into House of the Rising Sun.
