The Voice - Fall 2015

There were some really good singers last night. I esp liked Viktor, the twins, the girl from WVa, & the curly-haired young boy who went to Gwen's team. Also good were Chance (the young boy only Adam turned for) & Darius (who sang the Donny Hathaway song). The girl with the hat was trying too hard to be kooky (and failed - she was just annoying) & I was surprised anyone turned for her. I liked the look & the backstory of the girl who sang the JHud song but also surprised she got a chair turn, esp from Pharrell. Those 2 are definitely fodder IMO.

Is anyone watching?

Ain't No Mountain was so much fun. Don't know who I would pick, either.

Surprised she wasn't a steal unless all 4 figured an older female gospel singer isn't going to win.

I love The Voice. Blake has a killer team...some good "steals" there for the other judges during the battle rounds. Gwen may have the weakest team so far.

I thought John Fogerty and Brad Paisley were good guest mentors. Missy Elliott and Selena not so much ....

ITA re Adam's shaved head ... ugh ... he just doesn't have a good shaped head for the bald look. Wonder WHY did he think that was a good idea??

Jordan v. Regina - The show is clearly trying to make Jordan into a phenomenon, but I think it's overblown. He's good, but he's not great. Regina is also good, but I think Gwen will regret spending a steal on her. I'm betting Adam will let someone even better go, as will some of the other coaches.

Tyler v. Superman --- close call, so Blake went with the young, pretty one. Smart move.

Ellie v. Tim -- I would have chosen Ellie, too. I'm surprised Pharrell used a steal on Tim.

Celeste v. Mark -- I preferred Celeste. I would have stolen her over the ones who actually were stolen.

James v. Dustin -- There was no way Adam was going to let James go. Blake would have stolen him. Dustin never had a chance.

Barrett v. Dustin -- I definitely preferred Dustin. Kind of dumb for Blake to pair these two in the first round.

My thoughts on the blind auditions: Adam has the strongest team, and Gwen has the weakest team. However, Gwen has the cutest guy on her team this season. Yup, the candy store dude is eye candy :swoon:. He's not going to last very long though. At the best, up to the knockouts. Couple of other eye candies this season: Adam has the hot Hungarian dude and Blake has the handsome 16yr old 'Superman'.

My thoughts on tonight's battle round: I think Gwen should've stolen Celeste instead of Regina. Regina is too over the top shouting diva.

Maybe to support Manny???

Ellie v. Tim -- I would have chosen Ellie, too. I'm surprised Pharrell used a steal on Tim.
Barrett v. Dustin -- I definitely preferred Dustin. Kind of dumb for Blake to pair these two in the first round.
Me too surprised by Pharrell's steal. Tim looked uncomfortable on stage.
I think the coaches are supposed to pair equals together to make the battles more exciting. Unlike the first couple of seasons, the steals come in handy to give a deserving contestant a second chance when they are paired against an equally talented contestant. That way it would not be shame of letting a deserving contestant go if two phenomenal performers get paired together because most likely one of them would be stolen.

Jordan v. Regina - The show is clearly trying to make Jordan into a phenomenon, but I think it's overblown. He's good, but he's not great. Regina is also good, but I think Gwen will regret spending a steal on her.

Celeste v. Mark -- I preferred Celeste. I would have stolen her over the ones who actually were stolen.

I definitely would have chosen Jordan but I don't think he has a chance of winning this. I agree that Gwen probably wasted a steal on Regina.

I LOVED Mark. Clear winner for me.

I would have chosen Barrett ... by a hair. Dustin was definitely worth the steal. They both were really great.

I thought Dustin clearly beat Barrett -- Barrett was trying way too hard and his peformance was too cheesy. Plus i find his voice very one-dimensional.

And I think Pharrell stole Tim to use as cannon fodder in the Knockouts.

Yup. For the most part, they'll only steal people who can win or people who are disposable against their current team.

Jordan v. Regina - This was the most uneven battle of the night. The only thing memorable about it was that Gwen stole Regina.

Tyler v. Zach - I disagreed with Blake that Tyler phoned it in. I thought he clearly won. Zach has a pretty voice but he's so green. It was a good try though.

Ellie v. Tim -- Ellie is one of my favorite contestants but I thought Tim won the battle by a hair. I would have been shocked if he hadn't been stolen.

Celeste v. Mark -- Mark all the way. He's fantastic IMO. Celeste has a great "church" voice.

James v. Dustin -- This battle was a yawn. I don't think James will survive the knockouts.

Barrett v. Dustin -- I picked Dustin. Barrett is really hokey - I'm not sure that Barrett would have been stolen if Blake hadn't chosen him even though the other coaches raved about him.

Keith looks a little bit like the lead vocalist of Muse, Matt Bellamy. Funny that Adam said that he should give Keith some Muse songs to sing in the future.

Blake should not have used his steal on Ugly Betty (okay, she's not ugly, but looks like her). Maybe both he and Gwen felt sorry for her since she is young. Should've used it on Manny instead. Doesn't matter anyways, since she won't make it to the finals. But then again, I didn't think that Megan would make it to the final 2 last season. Blake has a way of getting at least one contestant into the finals even if there are more deserving contestants from other teams.

I disagreed with one coach's decision last night & there were 2 that should have been stolen. The Keith/Manny battle was disappointing because of the song choice but I preferred Manny's voice. Keith's is too tinny for me. But choosing Keith wasn't wrong - what was wrong was that Manny wasn't stolen. The Chris/Krista battle surprised me. Going in I had thought I would prefer Krista but I think Blake made the right choice. But I couldn't believe Krista wasn't stolen. A few flat notes don't negate her fabulous voice.

And then they montaged 2 people I really had wanted to see - Madi Davis & Jeffrey Austin. At least they won their battles but you would think they would at least put them online. And for what? So we could see 2 teenagers badly sing a 50 yr old song. I didn't really care who won that one.

My NBC reception was horrible last night, so I wasn't able to see/hear all of the pairs, but I certainly was disappointed to see a couple not even get a steal. Manny. :wuzrobbed

Gwen stinks at this game. I think her team might be weaker after the Battles. She just doesn't know how to choose and use her steals.

Yup, she should've stolen Celeste, instead of Regina and Manny, instead of Riley.
LOL! at Gwen having a crush on Chance. If I were her, I would have a crush on Chase instead. As soon as Gwen picked that Regina Spektor song for the battle round, I knew that she wanted Korin to win the battle. But, Chase did a respectable job on that song. Since Korin won't make it that far anyways, might as well pick the hottie. Chase has a pleasant tone to his voice if given the right song choice. I wished that Pharrell would've stolen him instead of Tim as fodder.

Blaine vs Blind Joe - Joe sounded much better than in his audition but I still don't think he has "it". Plus I found his attempts at upstaging Blaine really annoying. I would have chose Blaine so I was glad Adam stole him.

Cassaundra vs Viktor - Cassaundra was good but I'm not fond of really high voices & I found Viktor a lot more unique.

Chase vs Korin - I was surprised when Korin got even one chair turn. She is beyond annoying. She sounded pretty good but I liked Chase better.

Evan vs Riley - Evan is one of my favs & I thought he clearly won but Riley was really good too. I'm glad Gwen stole her because I think her voice is unique & I want to hear her again.

Braden vs Lindsey - I think Braden will be wonderful in a few years but his voice is finished changing yet & he's not nearly as polished as Lindsey. I think it was a mistake to choose him & it was really sad someone like Regina got a steal & Lindsey didn't.

Andi/Alex vs Chance - this battle was absolutely beautiful. I didn't want anyone to lose but I gave the edge to Chance. I really thought Adam would pick him because I think the girls will be knocked out in the next round. I was glad Blake stole him.

We got 3 battles & 3 montages last night. :( I really like Amy but since Jubal & Amanda were fodder from the start, I really didn't need to see their forgone conclusion battle. The best battle was the last one. I preferred Morgan's voice but both girls were really good. Of course Blake kept the youngest & prettiest one as usual so I'm glad Morgan was stolen by Pharrell. Whether or not he will know what to do with a country girl is questionable though.

Nobody wows me this time. There are some great voices, but I'm still waiting for one who can deliver an unforgettable performance.

Ok, I hadn't seen a lot of the battles and none of the auditions so that was the first time I saw Jordan. I thought he was amazing on that Adele song and if the coaches are gobsmacked, so am I.

Amy was so worth the steal, a genuine artist. Braden is a freak of nature but I don't think another teenager is going to win this season.

I have only caught little bits of this season. I saw Jordan's audition and then his performance tonight.
He's my superstar. :respec:

Although I think Jordan is really good, I don't think he's a superstar. I felt like he stripped a lot of the emotion out of that song. It was more vocal gymnastics. Maybe if I hadn't listened to Adele's version so much I would have liked it better. I think the praise of him has been a little over the top. But, that's what they do on The Voice. Overstate things. I also don't get why Gwen lost it over Braden. And who cares about the straightened hair?

Adam should not have put Victor up against Jordan, and Pharrell should not have put Madi up against Amy. Amy was really good, but Madi was probably my favorite of the night. I'm glad they all made it to the live rounds.

I think they are told to pitt them against each other to make the knockout more exciting and less predictable.

Madi was good, but I preferred James' (from season 5 on Adam's team) version better. I would have kept Amy instead of Madi. I would've kept Viktor instead of Jordan. Glad that Viktor got stolen. Too bad Chance chose the wrong song.

I also don't get why Gwen lost it over Braden. And who cares about the straightened hair?
I think because he looked totally different? Braiden sang that song pretty well.

I think that was the most predictable battle of the show. Anyone watching the show and the previews knows that Jordan is the annointed one.

He did a decent job, but he only got through to the live rounds because he is on Gwen's team. It wasn't anything special or screamworthy IMO.

Jordan is the anointed one so why did Adam deliberately lose Viktor? He can't protect Jordan against vote-splitting by getting rid of Viktor. He had to know Viktor would be stolen. He does that every year. The winners were pretty easy to pick last night. I picked 5 out of 6.

Blaine vs Andi/Alex - Blaine has been a favorite from the 1st. I thought he should have won the battle against Blind Joe & he (to me) clearly won here

Braden vs Ellie - I loved Ellie up to now but her song choice was so bad for her voice. (I also read she had laryngitis but with the right song choice she might have been stolen.) Braden's voice is amazing. I like him better without the glasses but I think his curls are better. He looked like a nerd.

Blind Joe vs Barrett - I don't like Joe's voice & I don't like Barrett's stage presence & mannerisms so I didn't really care. Barrett did tone it down a bit so I chose him FTW.

Madi vs Amy - This pairing didn't make sense to me just like Jordan/Viktor. I thought I was going to prefer Amy but IMO she didn't take Rihanna's advice. She was stiff & unsexy and that dress! - the opposite of sultry. She looked like a young girl going to her 1st communion. And I didn't like her change-ups to the melody. Madi sounded beautiful & her performance kept building in intensity.

Chance vs Ivonne - I hate both songs even by the original artists so this knockout didn't thrill me but at least Ivonne sounded good. She has improved so fast.

Jordan vs Viktor - This was the only knockout that I got the winner wrong but then I despise Adele songs so that may have had something to do with it. I thought the singing was a toss-up so the personality (and looks) was the deciding factor. Jordan has a gorgeous voice but that's not enough for me. I want some emotion or swagger or something other than vocal gymnastics. Viktor can veer into hokey territory so hopefully Gwen can knock it out of him.
