No....Carol Lane is his 2nd mother. He is tied to her hip. Sink or Swim.... I believe it was on FSU way back where someone in the know said Vanessa Crone wanted Paul to leave Carol and he went running to Mommy and Vanessa was banished to the black hole of Ice dance in Canada and Carol found him a new sparkly toy. Besides Carol is a brilliant coach/choreg. and helps dispose of competition one way or another even if they also train with her. But that is just my opinion.

I like Carol Lane. I am just curious as to what a different coaching team may do with this team. He has an amazing talent!

Yes he really does as far as skating goes..He does not really show personality or intensity though hence all the gimicks. Maybe it would be good for him to go away but don't think that will happen

Are Capellini and Lanote still in for the next season? Next to the top 2 and ShibSibs, I really enjoyed their programs. Note: I don't know that much about ice dance technicalities, I just know what I enjoy when I see a program. With the SS out, C/L and P/C are about all I want to watch in ice dance.

I don’t think C/L have officially made a decision, but it seemed to be understood that Milan was their swansong. They’ll be missed if so.

So many splits etc... Key to success is longevity and/or checking your ego at the door. I get if you are a newbie, but a teams that's been together 6ish years and splitting "out of the blue" might be a missed opportunity. Nobody becomes a champion immediately. :scream:
It's just my opinion of course, but problems don't start out of nowhere in a team. If you stay that long together t develop just to end it and start all over again what's the point...
(My midnight rant - Ice Dance is a tough sport).

Random reactions during the off-season after an Olympics . . .

Team A: Good thing I wasn't invested.
Team B: :wuzrobbed
Team C: _____ better not poach _____ from my favorite team.
Team D: Why does that name sound familiar? Oh, yeah.
Team E: Saw that one coming.
Team F: Saw that one coming, but gosh darn it.
Team G: Wheee! ______ team just moved up a spot.
Team H: Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Team I: Nooooo!
Team K: And another one bites the dust.

Yes she disposes of them at the rink and minces them on air.

As far as brilliant ... Lane is accomplished at interpreting the rules to maximize every point, camouflaging weakness (ie Piper), and politics.

As far as choreography/coaching is concerned, she would have been lost without the real coaching talents there: Jon Lane and Juris Razgulajevs.

Those are qualities I would hope any ice dance coach would have.

The Carol Lane (as a coach) hate is really odd. She's a very good coach who gets discussed like she's trash.

No doubt, those are her strengths and obviously to the benefit of the teams.

But there is more to being a "great" coach.

Her commentating might have something to do with the trashing???

People tend to rip apart all the coaches. Though different people do the ripping apart of different coaches. There are brief honeymoon periods as with young skaters that aren't winning anything, but . . .

We complain. We wonder why our favorite teams aren't winning. We wonder why we don't like the teams that are winning. We second guess. And we have different tastes.

FSU. It's what we do;).

Carrol Lain is an evil witch, she has admitted on National T.V. that she is a pagan and worships dark god's. She has that "exotic" hair-style to cover up the Witch warts all over her face. The men she coach's all practice alternative life-styles like Adam Rippon.

She should like Tonya Harding be in jail behind bars. There are so many people in this sport that should be in jail but are not, it is very much compareable to Hilary Rod Ham Clinton!

He is very talented, but a) I will always believe that he should have stuck with Vanessa Crone, and b) he needs to learn how to stay out of others' way/proper etiquette when sharing the ice with others.

As for Carol Lane, even though I am not a huge G/P fan, I have always liked the teams coming out of the Scarborough FSC and whoever is responsible for most of the coaching and choreography, they have almost always turned out teams that are not only well-trained, but also interesting, with unique choreography that doesn't look cookie-cutter like that of many other big dance rinks. I dislike her commentary and think it is a huge conflict of interest that she is allowed to do commentary for competitions in which her team is actually participating and even other competitions where they may not be competing, but all the teams that are could be seen as their direct rivals, but that doesn't influence how I think of her as a coach.

Which country would they represent?

They will skate for France, as both have French passports and I cannot imagine either of them would wish to sit out a season to represent Russia since they both have represented France this last season.
... and the chances of DG releasing either are about as likely as Trump becoming a priest

This is great for Louis Thauron, plus they wouldn't have to sit out one season... so we have at the moment 4 seniors French couples and 3 spots for Euro. It's getting really interesting :cheer2: I like when there is a fight, it pushes everyone to do better. It's too bad that France came so close to 3 Worlds spot !
I wonder about Angélique, if she found someone, and if she'll skate for France too or not.

That is the 2nd time I have read about them being in other's way in warmups. This brings up to me something that has been bugging me since the time Nikita of Sinkats cut Tessa's leg on warmup at NHK not this last season but the one before. PJ had a live facebook and it was mentioned. She said that ice dancers play chicken on the warmup to show they own the ice and to try and throw others dancers off their game.Kurt of course agrees with everything PJ and Carol say so he seemed to approve of this as well. Challenge was a few weeks later & I heard there were a few close accidents there. I don't know if this is a thing...or what countries do it if so but I have never heard of anything so horrible I hope it is just a few coaches who r nuts. During cdns this year....the younger ones which Ted Barton(my god) was commentating with Debbie Wilkes, Debbie started to bring this up and Ted cut her right off and switched subjects. Can anyone with knowledge about this let me know? For me this is the same type of thing as doping. Sorry but winning by cheating in any way is not winning.

He will intentionally get in the way of perceived competition on home ice as well!

Piper and Paul do need to learn how to share the ice with other top teams during practices. There was an Olympic practice where Weaver/Poje’s run-through was happening and Piper and Paul were in their way and not giving them the right-of-way. It got to the point where Kaitlyn had to yell at them to move out of the way while they were trying to start their footwork in hold. I noticed Piper and Paul also get close in other competitions with different skaters too. I don’t think it’s deliberate or anything just behavior that needs to change.

Yes, I never it like it when skaters are "aggressive" with one another on warmups.

Paul really is terrible at sharing ice. Twice in person I’ve witnessed them aggressively practicing their midline step sequence right through another team trying to do a run through to their music. No way it could have been anything but intentional. They do it to the lower ranked teams right through to Virtue and Moir. It’s so offputting.

Getting in the way of other skaters who are SUPPOSED to be doing their music is nothing new for Paul Poirier. He has done this on a number of occassions and it almost seems as though he is targeting teams that are ranked above him. It has not mattered who is/was his partner, he simply seems to think ALL the ice is his ALL the time.
