The Israeli team that will be going is Tankova/Zilberberg. They are old enough and have the TES minimums. Given that Israel has qualified (I think?) for the team event, I can't see the ice dance spot being declined.

Yes, I think Israel has qualified. I'm happy for team Israel but sad for Tobias & Tkachenko and Torn & Partanen. This is how the Olympic season goes. You celebrate for dreams achieved and are sad for broken hearts.

That'll keep the Shibs on their toepick ... I mean better now than later, if they have some level issues, they'll certainly be made aware.

They’re going to get a level 2 or two no matter how they actually hit their footwork with Dostatni there.
I can't even disagree with you on that... Dostatni didn't seem to like the Shibs last year at worlds. At all.
"Fortunately", the ATS (beside being USA) used to skated with his sister IIRC. So we might expect the TC to call some of the elements more than usual ?
For the last 2 comps, we worried about the Tech Panel and it went well (better than expected). I'll try to be optimistic.

What's his problem with the Shibs ? Is it politically related ? Or just irrational ?
They skated the best at worlds last year and their scores dropped significantly. He doesn't care about putting level 2s and sometimes it's a bit of an odd call.
He was TS at NHK 2016 (1st time P/C vs V/M - while P/C didn't have a clean FD at all, the Pst in the SD was fine and it got level 2, while it was a 3 before). Also TS at worlds... Shibs were honestly lowballed on levels there (Pst2 but it was their cleanest and fastest of all the season).

He also pretty much showered S/K at NHK 2016 with level 2s on their step sequences in both SD and FD. Something similar happened to B/S at Worlds. Although he was also the ATS for Worlds 2016 and the Shibs had a great result there.

So is he trying to teach some lessons ? Or is he just a moody tech specialist ? And if so how can he still be allowed to be one. Anyway, like you said, there was some potentially problematic panels in the past GP competitions but it went quite alright. Let's hope this time around, he'll be in a good mood.

From reports on FSU from a poster observing the tech panel during the ice dance event, it was Ayaka Higashino sticking to her guns and ignoring Dostatni’s animated cries about her calls with Hilary Selby going along with Higashino’s calls. I always liked to imagine Dostatni was mansplaining to Higashino and she just let it roll off her back.

Reminds me of Euros 2017 :scream:
On the Tech Panel at GPF, Sharon Rodgers (USA) isn't the best choice for V/M. Cesaro (ITA) for P/C. Dostatni (POL) for Shibs.
Now if we get the 3 of them I'm going to laugh so hard (or not).

Well, let`s just hope for a fair competition. Honestly, I expected Ponomarenko or Blumberg as TS in Lake Placid, but maybe one of them is going to be on the Olympic panel? Blumberg was on the technical panel for JGP Australia, but I don`t think I`ve seen Ponomarenko yet on any panel (JGP, GP, Challenger).

NO, no Ponomarenko on the Tech at Olympics. If he does the same as last year, the French are in trouble. And you might see Chock/Bates on the podium. (Sorry for being horrible, but that what his records are saying not me).

EDIT : having his son skating at Igor's camp should make him officially ineligible to be on the OG Tech Panel honestly.

So no Ilinykh & Shibnev at Tallinn Trophy after all. Withdrawn.

Very nice skate for Agafanova & Ucar.

Sharon Rogers is a judge, she wouldn't be on the tech panel. Also, I'm looking back at her marks for VM and while she is on the low end, it's not drastic and she's not always the lowest. I think because she gave them a 8.75 for skating skills in the FD at Four Continents, a whole narrative has developed that is blown out of proportion.

I think I was comparing severeal competition, and several teams, but even last year's skate Canada she gave huge marks to C/B (in PCS) and lower to V/M. There might be other examples, but then she might actually be favouriting US teams compared to others.

She wasn't at Skate Canada last year, so it's probably a different US judge you have an issue with there. You could argue she held down BS at Skate America for HD and perhaps her judging overall has a national bias, but looking just at her marks for VM, she's on the low side, but not always the lowest and I really think so much attention gets paid to it because of that 8.75. A database where we could easily compare specific judges trends would be awesome though.

ETA: okay at four continents, she favored all the US teams over VM lol. So yeah, I can see why she would be the least favorite US judge.

No, she didn't. She wasn't at Skate Canada last season.

She was at Skate America, and casken--who is very much a Bobrova & Soloviev fan--was upset because Hubbell & Donohue defeated Bobrova & Soloviev there. Hence . . . every time she judged last season casken complained.

Then at 4CCs she gave all three U.S. teams higher PCS than V&M during the SD. People weren't prepared to consider H&D as a medal threat at that point in time so there was blowback. (IMO, she's not anti-V&M. She's pro USA. Just as the Canadian, Russian, & French judges at Worlds were all pro their own country too. It's eye-rolling, but I don't think it's anti-anyone specific. It's just pro "our" team(s) and "anti" the main competition. Fortunately, scores for that type of national bias are usually the ones that get thrown out of the equation anyway.

@DreamsofBliss and @Dobre Thank you guys, I think I mixed up everyone :wall:
I don't think she is anti-VM at all either by the way ! She just favour US teams, yep (Like 4CC). Since I thought she was the one at SCI16 I thought it was a redundant thing but, my mistake. Thank you for the correction ;)

Why is it so hard to just judge what is happening on the ice? Humans were able to figure out how to get to the moon and back, but figuring out how to properly and fairly apply PCS to an ice dance program seems to be beyond the reach of human intelligence.

This is a bit off topic, but can someone recommend seats to watch Ice Dance at Worlds in Milano? I'm buying "Platinum" seats ... is the short end/side okay?

I was reading about her before Sochi dinging V/M against D/W. Anyways maybe it is just cdns....She gave Piper and Paul skating skills of 7.50 and gave S/K 9.25. Go Sharon Rogers....should be thrown out.

Judges were anonymous at that time, so it would be a guess if she was the one doing the dinging.
