So I looked it up to remind myself. GUI/Fab got silver at the last two GPFs and didn’t even make it this year. LaLa made it the last two years, not this year. L/B made it last year with CarPon as first alternate, this year L/B is an alternate and CarPon not even that.

No wonder there’s crying and conspiracy theories. There’s always some movement but this year’s seems more extreme.

I think we should separate between the "my favorite team WUZROBBED" cries and the "ice dance is becoming unwatchable due to questionable judging" cries. Granted, there's plenty from both kinds, but the ones on FSU I feel are mostly the second type, and it's hard to deny we've been seeing a lot of questionable judging since the first GP of the season. I saw someone on Twitter call the state of ice dance "the cold war of our era", and it kind of fit tbh. A lot of the judging decisions feel like they are trying to feed certain narratives.

I think a good example for this is the scoring for Bratti/Somerville. They got 103.1 at their last GP and 114.94 at Warsaw Cup. Even if we take into consideration the generous scoring at Warsaw, I doubt that if you watch both programs, you will find where the 11.84 points gap comes from (BV gap was 1.49 points), the scoring this entire season has just been disconnected from what we've been seeing on the ice, for the most part.

Besides LoLo and Cizeron..who would have thunk Allison Reed and Saulius, who did not make the FD at Worlds and had to qualify at Chinese Nebelhorn..plus Z/K..coming out so strongly..a changing landscape for sure..

Well. In the U.S. there’s going to be a generational alignment next season. It may be that the PTB are sending messages through cooperative international judges about who will be the next stars. Z/K and the Browns yes, B/S and P/B no, reserving judgment on CarPon and GrePar because we need them now even if they are getting too old to be shoe-ins in 2030. Keeping an eye on Wolf/Tsar, neutral so far. Nes/Mar and down the line Abo/Ves may be the post-2030 future.

I have NO knowledge backing this up, just a bit of ability to read political tea leaves.

Z/K are 23/24 vs. CPom 25/24, hardly too old to be shoe-ins for 2030. I also don't think the Browns are a yes, their ceiling seems to be much lower than the rest of the mentioned teams (though I love their uniqueness).

My bad, I thought CarPon were older since it seems they’ve been seniors forever. Parsons is indeed 30 or thereabouts.

The Browns have the HawBak issues, terrific technicians in miniature plus the siblings handicap. But since they went to IAM they seem to be emerging from the pack.

I think it was exactly having to qualify at Skate to Milano that ensured R/A came out so strong, and made such an impact so early. They had no space to faff around; they had to be on point from their second competition of the season. What's been really smart is that they didn't let things slide after that, but worked to capitalise on that early momentum.

Gui/Fab change the RD and during the Team Event the judges pretend the new one is not bad. Then they all close their eyes when Grassl lands his jumps and Conti/Macii don't botch a lift. Italy get the Bronze Team Event.
And then Gui/Fab can be dumped again to 10th place in the individual event.
Bookmarking this post to return to it in February

The Parsons used every bit of their junior eligibility. C/P moved up with junior eligibility left. And it kinda bit them because Carreria was denied her alien of extraordinary ability visa with a world jr. silver medal and Sr. GP medal while Kolesnik got his with Jr. world gold and no senior success.

I like it, works for me.
