Let the skating begin

She DID land them all at the test skate in September. Surely that wasn’t an one-time achievement?
I'm pretty sure she's landing them in her practice run throughs or they'd change them out. Same as the 3A. She can knock them out in practice. She rushes the jumps in competition. She just needs to learn to relax. Her focus is so intent, it throws her off. Sasha is also very shy which is why she looks down at the ice. She doesn't like to do interviews and doesn't want to talk about her skating. Her IG posts are just her endorsement ads for Puma, unlike Valieva who is very sociable. It's not her ability or will, she just needs to relax and do what she can do. You saw Anna and Kamila dancing on the ice before the medal ceremony. You didn't see Sasha doing that. It's just not her personality.

Usually just lurk and don’t comment much, but couldn’t help it this time. Several of Anna’s jumps were under rotated in the free. It’s obvious on the replay. When I watched it, I couldn’t believe it. Her TES yesterday was a joke (and in the short too). I say this with full respect for Anna’s strength and grit. She’s an amazing competitor but it doesn’t change the fact that several of her jumps shouldn’t have counted as triples. It’s cheating, and most likely next year when she’s discarded in favor of the next 15 year old, the judges won’t be as nice. And I feel bad for other skaters, not coached by Tutberidze, when their jumps are scrutinized against them.
Which ones? She did UR the 4 flip but I didn’t notice anything else being UR ?

"Several ur" is incorrect. One jump, May be.

Agreed maybe 1.

Even though Anna's gala performance was super beautiful I have no idea why figure skaters going to the Olympics were there in Tallin a day after the competition when several skaters tested positive for coronavirus at this competition.

Maybe I could accept this if it was worlds at the end of March 2 months later but with the Olympic team event like 3 weeks away no way should they be spending time in the locker room with each other and in an arena with thousands and thousands of fans some of whom without question will be spreading Corona virus.

Her 3Lz3Lo and 3F1Eu3S were both very tight and deserved at least a q call. And I lost all hope that the flutzes will be called at this point.
I thought they were not obvious UR to me ( I would call second one less than a Q) so I think it is somewhat arguable. Her edges should all be called ! as She does not have a full blown flutz

She did 3 triple/triple combos and a quad. IMO, every one of those was questionable. Quad flip and triple salchow on the end of the combo were obviously under. She’s judged differently because she’s Tutberidze skater. I have no bias against Russian skaters. I was born and raised in Russia, though I don’t live there anymore.
I’m not trying to pick on Anna. There’s other judging I disagree with. But her case is currently one of the worst, considering how other women get penalized in TES, with seemingly clean skates.

I can agree on the quad flip being obvious, but find it arguable as to combo being obviously under enough to warrant a <. The flip-toe looked fine to me. I mean, we can sit and talk about how overscored she is, but her "attempted" tech content is still way more difficult than those skaters who ended up below her... 3 3-3 combos and a quad - I'm not saying all those were executed perfectly or marked accordingly - but would still be putting her quite far ahead of the competition.

The ISU World Standings are meaningful only for seeding in the SPs/RD. (The World Rankings, WS points for the current season only, were used to give $$$ to the top three, but the ISU killed that after a short time, when they started to slash the prize money for their events.)

Can you imagine what the screaming in tennis would be if the federation said that you could win four grand slam events in the season, but only count one for ranking?

What are you talking about? I was checking closely during the replays and couldn't see no URs whatsoever. I thought in real time the 4F was at least a q but in replay it was clearly all around.

I think one could quibble about whether the 3S on the sequence is around, but the benefit of the doubt goes to the athlete. However, the 4F looks at least q if not UR to me.

Anna is very clutch and much tougher than she looks but so was Evgenia and for those three adult years with EG she was super clutch and completely unbeatable before her foot injury.

Of course Liza should be on the Olympic team figure skating needs to figure out a better system to get the better athletes in the top competitions. The need to use a system a little more like Golf and Tennis so the top competitors get rewarded or at least in the Grand Prix season if a country dominates one discipline like Russia does a and Single Ladies then you get an extra spot at Worlds or the Olympics or Europeans or for cc or whatever. If they use the formula for the Grand Prix season that I suggested then many small countries with lesser talent would still be able to come to the big competitions and grow their Sport in their country. There are things to blame the Russian figure skating Federation for but Liza not being on the Olympic team is not one of them show. It's it's the system the international figure skating union uses that is the issue and the reason Liza is not on the Russian Olympic team.

What is Liza's world ranking like five or six?
Can you imagine the number five or six tennis player or the number five or six golfer not going to the Summer Olympics? Or the number five or six skier or bobsledder not going to the Winter Olympics?

I mean would everything be thrown out of whack at a Europeans the Olympics or worlds is Russia got one extra spot for the ladies because they've got five of the six grand prix final spots and would have had all six if Sasha did not break her foot? Of course not. The sport has no modern leadership or modern ideas other than the coaches and quads and triple axels.

In conclusion no one is holding the growth of figure skating back more than the ISU.
There are very highly ranked golfers that get left out because there is a cap of 4 per country.

The referee was Swedish and the tech specialist was DOCTOR Florence Vuylsteker who is French & German. Neither one could care less if Anya was a Sambo 70 or a Apollo 13, why? What stakes to they have? Its truly an absurd and defamatory accusation.

The world feed we see is the same as the judges. The back end of the loop was OVER rotated, that's why it's came straight out and not curved. What a joke, and the 3s sequence was as straight as an arrow. The only maybe 'obvious' ur was the 4F & it was called and reviewed. Half the skaters no matter the gender flutz.

So basically you are trying to pick on Anya only bc she is an Eteri pupil. Its fine but just own that you are shaming a 17yo child which is just gross.

Olympic cap per gender is 4 golfers per Fed

Olympic cap per gender is 3 tennis players.

There are only 3 medals. Why take a ISU quota spot from another country? No one wants to watch ANOTHER national championship at the Olympics. Winning is not the most important thing for 99% of the athletes, its the journey. We want to see and cheer top athletes from our own countries compete and hear stories of other athletes obstacles to greatness.

The problem with FS isn't exposure, the problem is accessibility to rinks and the $$$. Brookings did a study and figure skating is by far the most expensive plus least black and brown people participation Olympic sport not involving animals. Folks know this and it's becoming much less acceptable in younger generations to watch countries like Rus, Belarus, Geo, Ukraine where there is such an obvious severe class divide between rich & poverty with human rights being secondary, pour millions of $$$ into dressing up their little white girls to look like women and skate to Roxanne or Carmen (basically any opera), and pretend to be prostitutes where many in their country actually are. It's a 'look at the flashy bright lights and pretend you aren't living like church mice while old fat corrupt white men rob you' at its most extreme.

I think the top three from worlds should get their own spot to go outside of the country allocated spots
So all three Russian ladies who medaled at worlds plus another three Russian ladies for quota spots to the Olympics? That would mean Russia would have SIX lady spots at the Olympics! Absolutely positively not! I want to watch an international Olympics at the Olympics, not Russian nationals at the Olympics!

This particular year in ladies yes. But not all the time. I want to see current world medalists be able to compete at the Olympics. You would also get to see ilia in mens.

That would mean 1/4 of the ladies event would be Russian women. 6 of the 24 women would be Russian (because let's face it, none of them would be cut after the short program). The entire final group of 6 women could all be Russian. That is not at all in keeping with the spirit of the international nature of the Olympics. I am glad a country is held to three entrants- it is up to the federation to decide which three are the strongest to send. I don't agree with who USFS chose for US men, but that doesn't mean I want to see 4 American men and FIVE Japanese men at the Olympics. Nor do I want 5 of the 16 pair teams (over a third of the field) to be Russian, which is what would happen. Nope. No thanks.

There is someone for sure that should really calm down...some things she/he writes are hilarious, and the tone in which she/he writes them is so hilariously rude.
