After the SP portion of the test skates, wow for Kamila! And both Sasha and Liza have improved their performance quality so much to add to their technical arsenals. My early pick for the Olympic team, which is actually my dream team as well, would be these three.

If the Olympics were to happen now, Id pick Liza, Kamila and Trusova
but we know test skates mean nothing and we will eat those words by end of this season.

Trusova has never landed a triple axel in a competition as compared to Kamila, Aliona and Liza.
She needs to land once that triple axel to get over her mental block.

same but the chances of all these three really going are close to nil.

Kamila, Liza and Anna all the way to the Olympics. All on the podium!!! ?? ?? ??

Trusova bombed 3ax yet again...what the heck, for always doing it so well in practice? She’s also looking freaky - red hair, red dress. No, no, no! Psychologist, please.

Worst music ever: Kostornaia! Good grief.

Delights of the day even if neither stands a chance in Hades of making any Oly or ISU teams: Nugu and Sinitsyna.

All the beautiful music in the world and Kostornaia gets that WAILING?! Almost as bad as Kolyada getting the off-pitch screeching version of Pavarotti in CARUSO!

Her 1st SD program from Plushenko last season was much more interesting. Will go back and watch that. Dani G. clearly does not like her from past interviews and body language. How I wish she only worked with Dudakov and Eteri.

I've always liked Ksenia, and this program is lovely. She connects with it. Just beautiful. I am concerned about the extent of her loss of muscle mass, though. The nice dress hides it somewhat.

I'm okay with Kostornaia's SP music. She embodies it. It works for her.

Kind of shocked with all the 3axels that Sasha has landed that she still took a bad fall on it. Come on, keep at it, it will be there by Olympics!

Tuk- I like her program, she's worked on her presentation, her spins look improved. But she's SO SLOW. Her jumps lack height, distance, and speed. I'd go with Sasha/Alena over Tuk, though Tuk does have a more mature presence and presentation.

Anna- similar program, but some interesting new choreography and she's showing more of her dance talent. I have a feeling she might be the odd woman out....

Kamila- I preferred Storm. This is okay though. Kamila could skate to anything and make it watchable.

Looking forward to the LPs tomorrow!

Just as they did before the test SPs, RussiaOne channel previews the LPs of the top Sambo70 women, with comments from DaniG.

This is my first time stopping in this thread in like three months

And I have one thing to say, oh my goodness goodness goodness goodness VALIEVA is the Olympic champion

I know I'm Johnny come lately with some things but I do come

Oh my goodness I feel like an Eteri girl has one year, expiration date, shelflife is one year. Oh my goodness. There is not one thing this figure skater does not have

Help me out – is that a triple axle with both arms over her head in the short program? It looks like a triple axle

Lol this is exactly what I'm thinking about at this moment after just watching the tests… I've never been on board with Sacha yet but maybe that could change.

Well VALIEVA is for sure the Olympic champion, I mean…

And then I guess I would go with La Tuk and then I don't know Anna? How do you leave a current world champion out?

I want Valieva, Kostornaia and Tuktamysheva for the Olympic team. Trusova is so wildly inconsistent and falls more than any of these ladies regardless of all the hype that surrounds her; I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw her skate a clean program. Shcherbakova doesn’t bring enough personality, variety or excitement to her skating programs.

I’m reluctantly agreeing that Valieva is the front runner. Fine, she gets the gold, and I vote for Sasha and Liza for the rest of the team.

But I want Kaori and Alysa for the other two medals. Stranger things have happened.

Trusova is going to show all the haterez!
I sincerely wish she would show us. I’ve been closely watching figure skating live since 1992 and I don’t think I have ever witnessed a skater receive so much hype that she hasn’t been able to live up to in competition. Maybe Sasha Cohen could apply, but Cohen really did have amazing qualities that set her apart and she was an athlete and an artist and still won 3 world medals (2 silvers, 1 bronze) and Olympic silver. The way so many people build Trusova up, you would think she should be winning everything in sight, yet she has been overshadowed by all of Kostornaia, Shcherbakova, Valieva and Tuktamysheva throughout her senior career. Many fans predicted Trusova’s world gold on a silver platter last season and then she plummeted to a 12th place SP. I never find myself rooting for the most overhyped skater.

It's like the specialists are campaigning hard to get her into the team. But why? Is there something in that Frida program that I'm not seeing? Last years SP was more interesting at test skates. Who can help it if she's a head case.

Right! Is it because she attempts more ultra c elements than anyone else? Why does that matter though if she can never land them cleanly in competition? She seems like a lovable girl who is funny and obviously feisty and she has a cute smile. If she had better PCS and spins, I’m sure I would warm up to her skating, but it’s not at all my preference.

I guess I’m a selfish fan; I want my Tonya Harding/Midori Ito (the athlete) and Carolina Kostner (the artist) all in one package. Kostner at the 2014 Olympics really brought everything to the table to play; that is the level of women’s skating that I miss and want to see.

I used to be crazy about Trusova as a junior because she was so fearless and confident and different, which made her fun to watch. I don’t see that in her anymore. She hasn’t improved that much artistically as a senior unfortunately. I found her short program sloppy and unrefined yesterday, even though I like the music and choreography. She was landing jumps so bent over too. I still like her very much as a person and wish her the best.

Kostornaya was also a favorite of mine a couple of years ago. She still doesn’t really look back to form. And I really disliked the short program.

Scherbakova I still like for the most part but her bent leg toe slamming toe jump technique really mars her skating and I’m not surprised has resulted in foot injuries. I don’t think that technique will ever be fixed for her and boy it’s got to be hard on the body. The short program tribal music wasn’t a great fit for her, though I liked the softer second part.

In sharp contrast Liza Tuk has some of the most beautiful jump technique of all women skaters. I love her pick in for the lutz with a straight leg, straight body and an easy straight vault into the air. No wonder she can still jump so well at 24. Her axel doesn’t take a lot of speed but she just lightly pops it right up….amazing. She performs the hell out of everything…reminds me of what made Ashley Wagner so much fun to watch. Right now she is my favorite Russian lady and I’m rooting for her to make the Olympic team. Yes she is slow and not as good in the basic skating but she makes up for it with other skills.

I agree with most that Valieva will likely be the Olympic gold medalist. Her jumps and everything else are quite amazing. The prospect of another 15 year old women’s Olympic champion doesn’t thrill me. I’d like skating to follow gymnastics and impose a 16 year age for seniors. Valieva’s long skirts are super strange. I’d like to see her body line more like in ballet. I mostly see a lot of fabric flying around. She has lovely upper body movement and stretch in her legs but sometimes her posture is a bit funky and she can move a little too jerky or hurriedly…but that is Dani G. Choreography. Her jumps though are truly impressive. And her flexibility is lovely.

I love Sinitsina’s beautiful style. I know she is not in the running. She had my favorite short program from a choreography standpoint of all.

Tutberidze seems at times to be watching herself on camera and on the Jumbotron more than paying attention to her skaters. ?

I’m excited to see what happens in the free skates for sure! Never a dull moment in the Russian ladies.

Goodness, I thought Anna was Daniil's fave, yet he gave her Lacrimosa for the final music cut of her program? Unfortunate.

Valieva’s long skirts are super strange

It was the first thing I noticed and I love it. So much in figure skating looks the same to me and it was refreshing to see the long skirt. I like them and Peggy Fleming would wear them and sometimes Irina Slutskaya. I think they're very elegant

Peggy Fleming wore them well! They really enhanced her artistic performance and she wasn’t jumping so much in them.

Kostornaia’s 3Axel in the test free skate appeared fully rotated and clean. A positive step in the right direction for her early in the season. I so wish she had choreography that is worthy of her skating though!
I tell you. I tell you. The same for the SP.
