Royalty Thread #7: Do They Get Frequent Flier Miles?

Charles struck me as little different from many men of his time and position.

"Extra-curricular" activities were expected; and even, encouraged.
Wives were supposed to "smile" and tolerate such behaviour.

There has always been a "boys will be boys" mentality but they didn't marry in the 1950's. It was 1980 & a lot more had been expected of Charles than what he delivered.

IMO there doesn't need to be a mental health diagnoses for Charles. Some people are so used to getting what they want when they want it that they ignore the feelings of others.

Why doesn't such behavior merit a mental health diagnosis?

There are no shortage of diagnoses for women who ignore their own feelings in favor of their partner's feelings, and are so accustomed to not getting what they want that they don't even think to ask for it. Battered Women's Syndrome is an example of one such diagnosis - and I'll point out that there is no 'Male Batterer Syndrome' for the man who is delivering the abuse.

People do bad things because they are not good people. Not everything can be ascribed to a mental illness. Men can be cads. Charles was selfish, self-absorbed and lacking the character involved in being a decent human being and in keeping his vows to his wife and family.

I have not read my "Vanity Fair" with the Meghan Markle cover but I did read a few "Daily Mail" articles and the comments section left me aghast. She may be crazy about Harry but will it be enough if the majority of the UK does not accept her? From what I've learned about her I like especially when a person commented on her getting into Northwestern and being the first in her clan to attend university. I did not have my head screwed on to my shoulders at that age. I know Northwestern is a fine school and turns away so many. So I have to love her ambition for going for it at such a young age when your parents are not familiar with the "university terrain" and have no pull to help gain entry. I don't get the hate. I wish them both happiness together and/or individually.

^^ Seems like mostly crazy trolls and jealous or hate-filled, ignorant people. Could also be divisive hackers just looking to stir up negativity.

Harry and Meghan are in love and it appears that an engagement and a royal wedding may be on the horizon (the last for major Brit royals for at least another 25+ years). I personally believe Harry and Meghan are already engaged and the details are being worked out for a public announcement and setting a wedding date.

BTW, Meghan Markle will not be the first person of African ancestry to marry into European royalty:

Today at the Invictus Games, President Obama and the Bidens joined Prince Harry to watch a wheelchair basketball event:

I know tons of men who exhibit the kind of behavior that Charles did - selfishness & disregard to how their actions affect others. I don't call that a mental health disease.

Those qualities are shared by socioppaths.

Harry did such a wonderful job at the Invictus Games. His father, brother and grandparents must be so proud.

Here's a lovely article from the otherwise terrible Daily Mail (they usually have good pictures but poor writing and ridiculous reporting, so this article is a nice change):

And more on the interaction with adorable toddler who stole from Harry's box of popcorn: :)

Harry joined Meghan in luxury box at Invictus Games closing ceremonies to watch Bruce Springsteen, et al. In the box with them were Meghan's mother, Doria Radlan, and Meghan's closest friends, Jessica Mulroney (a stylist who is married to the former Canadian prime minister's son), and Markus Anderson of Soho House.

An engagement announcement can't be too far away. Perhaps by early December, or early next year with a wedding scheduled for sometime next summer. I think they are already privately engaged.

It was a very successful Invictus Games, and the interest in the Meghan/Harry romance although a subtle part of the event, did not in any way overshadow the games. Seemingly they've found happiness in each other that has enriched both of their lives.

In non-Harry royal news: Prince Gabriel of Sweden was christened today, and it was clearly an excellent event: his big brother looking grumpy, Prince Oscar looking equally grumpy, Princess Victoria in an excellent red suit, Princess Estelle in a festive red cardigan, and Princess Sofia in folk dress!

The Swedish royals are a sartorial delight; good thing they have so many christenings these days :)

Victoria's looks stunning! And Sofia was wearing the traditional outfit really well, really pretty. But what was Madeleine wearing? :slinkaway
Loved all the kids. The two boys seemed thrilled to be there ;)

Here is the Daily Mail's look back at Kate's year in fashion. Includes pictures of her clothes from every public appearance, along with price estimates for every outfit.

I feel like Kate went more conservative & tailored in her look this year. She also spent more money on clothes than in past years, buying more high-end label/designer clothes (according to the Mail's estimates).

My favorites among this year's outfits are the less typical pieces, like this red Mexican-inspired dress and this black-and-white polka dot dress. (I like polka dots. :D) I also like this lavender dress because of the color. Kate doesn't wear purple as often as some other colors, but it's a really flattering shade on her. Burgundy also looks good on her.

I'm glad she cut her hair this year. It freshens up her look a bit. In all, I think Kate could stand to dress a bit more youthfully. Her look is very formal. I guess that makes it not easy to criticize, though, which is probably part of her goal.

The highlight of Hello Magzine's roundup of royal Christmas cards is probably Monaco's royal twins.

She could look Queen Letizia for inspiration, or maybe CP Mary. They usually look fab, and while Kate is a decade younger than either, you wouldn't know it to look at her wardrobe. Though I must say that her Jenny Packham gowns are fabulous.
