Really, part deux

Lee watched a bunch of the Gala this morning, before company arrived (our son and his wife). Enjoyed the skating, was interested in the overall standings (thanks, PatC)

Pretty quiet day, for a Sunday... eat, sleep, maintain... And give thanks for the chance to just be here.

Hope your days were equally uneventful.
Good to hear, Gerry. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Uneventful is good. Her body is working hard to heal itself. Rest and let her body and her doctors do their work. I'm so glad she is enjoying the skating. The success of Canadian ladies was extra sweet because of you guys.

When the two Canadian Ladies earned their Silver and Bronze medals and we saw all those madly waving Maple Leaf flags - my thoughts were with Lee and her knitted O Canada mittens :D I do hope that by the time the Olympics come around she will be wearing them and cheering madly with everyone else :)

Lee's daughter and granddaughter are doing a gutsy walk for crohn's and colitis. If you want to donate, here are the links:

Saturday morning check-in... today is Day 137.

The abdominal infection seems to be clear, and they feel it's time to relocate her shunt. So now we wait; it's a weekend, this is non-urgent, and so it might be a day or two before this gets done. We are both ok with that; the odds of having problems from waiting are miniscule, and she gets stronger every day while we wait.

She is much more alert now; whether it was the infection or the antibiotics taking a toll on her, the last few weeks have been awfully quiet - she was unable to talk for about the last week (although we communicated by sign.. yet another time when we benefited from learning another language - ASL), and she slept most of the time.

She is speaking a bit again, and seems more alert when she is awake... now we just gotta get these tubes either internalized or removed, one at a time.

And then we start over on Recovery.

Thanks to everyone for the support, the letters, the thoughts and prayers. Sitting in here, we see people who lack those supports, facing challenging decisions, and we realize how lucky we are to still be here, still be gaining, and still looking forward. You are all part of that, and we are both grateful for your friendship.

More to come...

Awwwww, @Gerry You got me. I felt the same when DH was in ICU for 21 days. I became friends with some of the families and was able to bolster their support network, if only by being the one in the waiting room who spoke both medical terminology and insurance-ese.

Continuing to send positive vibes for a smooth ride going forward. Now's the time for Lee to get new programs and start training for next season. The summer comps are only a few months away. Time's awasting!

Good news! Let's hope and pray that clearing up that infection is the turning point and Lee (and you!) can start to recover for real now! May those tubes come out soon, God willing.

I have no words to express my awe at your strength, love and patience throughout this ordeal, when I see the day count.

I hope you guys are enjoying some spring sunshine up there, and a sense of new life and joy along with it.

Good news. Slow and steady, onward and upward!

We at FSU are lucky to know Lee (whether we've met her in person or only "know" her online) and you also, Gerry.
You are lucky to have Lee.
She is lucky to have you.
Sending prayers to both of you.

Well, we are back in ICU... the surgery to relocate her shunt went well, but she decided not to wake up fully.

I told you she likes to sleep, right?

Any way, vitals are good, she is breathing on her own (backup pressure assist) but they didn't want to extubate her at this time of night if she wasn't more awake, so they left her intubated and moved her to ICU.

The nurses here know her, too; they groaned when they saw me. :-)

It's been a long day; I'm going back to my room to eat and grab some sleep. Thanks for thinking about her.

More to come...
