Really, part deux

We read through another stack of cards and letters today, after another not-all-that-successful attempt at eating supper.. it really brightened her up. 'Pretty cool' she said.

Hopefully things are continuing to progress on the kill-the-nasty-bugs front... now that they have figured out what's growing in there and are targeting the specific bug, things should clear up.

I'm figuring we will be here at least all week, getting better. After the docs say the bugs are all dead, another surgery to put her shunt back where it belongs.

I'm thinking that might be the right time to switch from this NG tube to a PEG tube, too. I plan to ask the docs that this week.

Anyway, we are coming along. Thanks to everyone for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers. A special thanks to those who sent cards and letters... it really brightens her day. She is lucky to have an online family!

This is Day 117...and we are still hanging in. Who would have guessed?

More to come...

That's great she appreciated the cards, can't believe it has been that long, hopefully no more complications. Sending positive thoughts, hope she's back to the local hospital soon

Thank you, @rfisher, for the good ideas and help. That link will be a good one for us!
It's my go to place for information. Hopefully, Lee won't have any issues with hers, but this is the best resource I've found for anything related to enteral feeding. Lee may well be able to try a blended diet once you all get home which is the best if at all possible.

Hiya. This is the end of our second week back here in the big concrete box... docs are pleased that they are making progress. The abcess is shrinking and the white cell count is dropping, lab work on Lee's CSF continues to come back negative, and the nurses have gotten a good handle on her fluid balance.

We are Nowhere near done up here, but we feel like we're gaining on it.

Lee is still having trouble swallowing and talking, and continues to be very sleepy, but in her compromised condition, that's not all that surprising... the antibiotics, the infection, or just feeling crappy could all have that impact on her. It feels like a big step backwards, but I've convinced myself to just hang on, ride it out and see what she is like after this little battle is over.

I have the feeling that once the infection is over and the antibiotics are withdrawn, this might just fix itself.

Thanks for the support and for keeping her in your thoughts and prayers... we are blessed to not only have these highly skilled people watching over her, but we draw strength from the collective warmth of friends, colleagues, and family.

Day 124. More to come...

Thanks for the update, Gerry. Hoping that this week Lee will see continuing improvement and that you will both be encouraged. It is hard to believe that this situation is now going into its fifth month. Grueling for you both, I am sure. Sometimes being on the sidelines is even more difficult. Take good care of yourself and find time for some rest-cures and treats.

Thanks for another update @Gerry. Day 124, time seems to fly to us but I'm sure it's ticking along very slowly for you. Very happy to read things sound like they're moving in the right direction at least! I'll cheer a little louder at my screen for lee's favourite skaters this week :) sending positive vibes as always.

Day 129... Lee slept most of the day; infection still isn't gone, but it's going. Neuro team won't put her shunt back in until it is clear, so we are probably here for another week.

She still can't eat, drink, or talk hardly at all, but the docs figure that is likely because of the infection or antibiotics, and should return after this.

Right now, she is watching Kaetlyn Osmond and Gabby Daleman kick some butt... seems pretty engaged.

She won t wake up for me hardly at all, so I sit here all day, waiting for some attention. Then I stick earphones in and turn on skating, and she wakes up.

And I still sit here, waiting for some attention. Go figure.

Well Gerry, you can't expect attention when her girls are kicking hiney at Worlds! Get yourself a 'tano Biellmann spin and she'll notice ya! :)

(Thank you for the continued updates; another card in the mail to her in the morning)

ok..pretend to be put out..I am sure you are glad something is holding her attention..She is resting & concentrating on healing cause she has you to watch her back...Ice dance will be amazing tomorrow morning..Put it on so she can ignore you some more.. get some rest..& think of the future when you can both go to a skating competition or a show & she can send you off to fetch at the concessionaires ..what a nice thought.

Lee watched a bunch of the Gala this morning, before company arrived (our son and his wife). Enjoyed the skating, was interested in the overall standings (thanks, PatC)

Pretty quiet day, for a Sunday... eat, sleep, maintain... And give thanks for the chance to just be here.

Hope your days were equally uneventful.

Thank you so much for the update, Gerry. So glad Lee has been enjoying the skating, watching Gabby and Kaetlyn kick butt, and the Gala!
Keeping Lee and you in my continuing prayers and that things begin to go a little smoother for both of you. <3
