Saturday morning check-in... today is Day 137.
The abdominal infection seems to be clear, and they feel it's time to relocate her shunt. So now we wait; it's a weekend, this is non-urgent, and so it might be a day or two before this gets done. We are both ok with that; the odds of having problems from waiting are miniscule, and she gets stronger every day while we wait.
She is much more alert now; whether it was the infection or the antibiotics taking a toll on her, the last few weeks have been awfully quiet - she was unable to talk for about the last week (although we communicated by sign.. yet another time when we benefited from learning another language - ASL), and she slept most of the time.
She is speaking a bit again, and seems more alert when she is awake... now we just gotta get these tubes either internalized or removed, one at a time.
And then we start over on Recovery.
Thanks to everyone for the support, the letters, the thoughts and prayers. Sitting in here, we see people who lack those supports, facing challenging decisions, and we realize how lucky we are to still be here, still be gaining, and still looking forward. You are all part of that, and we are both grateful for your friendship.
More to come...
