So excited for the final season of Man in the High Castle to come out later this week! I'm going up to a friend's house in Columbus this weekend so that me, her and another friend can watch it together (we started the series together so we planned this weekend a while back so that we can end it together). I'm bummed that it's the final season but hopefully that means they wrap up the story in a satisfying way. Can't wait! :cheer:

Apparently Verizon customers who have an unlimited data plan get a free year of Disney+...guess who doesn't have an unlimited plan and has totally missed out on that great deal?! This girl.... :wuzrobbed

According to this article, Thor Ragnarok, Avengers Infinity War, Black Panther and Ant-man & the Wasp will be available as soon as their contract with Netflix expires at the end of December (a similar deal for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is why that one isn't available yet either). As for the absence of certain recent X-men movies, they're apparently part of exclusive deals with other streaming platforms as well. And the reason why the MCU's Incredible Hulk and Spider-man movies are not on Disney+ is that they're not actually owned by Disney/Fox, but by Paramount and Sony, respectively. Disney would have to reach separate deals with those companies to get those films (as they did with Starz to obtain Star Wars: The Force Awakens immediately rather than waiting for their contract to expire).

Now that we have so many new streaming services, we should probably rename this thread.

Btw, I was able to get a free year of Disney+ and since Mr. Mac had already paid for 3 years, we now have a 4-year subscription.

I've only watched the first two episodes of the final season so far, but I don't know if I can go on without the Trade Minister! And no Ed either? :wuzrobbed

We finished our binge watch over the weekend and the biggest reactions we had were to the Trade Minister's fate (we called him Grandpa and not having him around was very traumatic for us :fragile: ) and to a scene in the very last episode of the season which made us stand up and cheer. This season is not like the other ones that IMO, started off slow and then gradually built up to crazy finales. I felt like this season started in third gear and didn't really slow down at all. It's weird without those two for sure but the season overall is really good and worth watching (BTW-you will need to post here when you get done so we can chat about the ending!). Hang in there and I don't think you're regret it! :)

One of most amazing TV shows that I’ve ever seen.

Someone should an ice dance programme themed on it. :D

Only if the person playing “Elizabeth” can play up that ice cold persona. Justice must be done to that character. What do you think? 1980-1986 pop music medley with the theme song interspersed throughout? Too bad women have to wear skirts. I want to see her in 80s jeans.

Better to do it as an exhibition to accommodate multiple wig changes.

Adding my love for The Americans which I binged a year ago - so good, loved all of it!

Last week I binge watched Undone on Amazon Prime. It's animated but was shot live acting and turned into animation so it has a very interesting look. It's only 8 half hour episodes and I watched it in 2-3 days. Hard to describe the subject matter but it includes schizophrenia, time travel and at the core is about a family. Very interesting, but if you are expecting answers in the end, it ends rather ambiguous which was fine by me. I really enjoyed it.

I finally got to watch the Making of Documentary for Dark Crystal and some highlights
The interviews with the Froud family. The baby from Labyrinth was a designer on the show and they talk about how he often translates his father’s ideas into a way that’s understandable for the rest of the crew. Thought that was an interesting dynamic and reminded me of the 20 plus years Christopher Tolkien spent making his father’s notes coherent.
On that note, Lisa Henson’s role in the production. I remember going to a live talk with her once and she basically said she’s not the creative one (I think her brother Brian and her youngest sister are) and she’s more a business person. But she knew well enough to bring as many people back as possible from the original film.
The bigger puppets like the Skeksis
The test footage with the CGI Gelfling. Yeah, that wasn’t going to work.
watching Simon Pegg record Chamberlain. And Natalie Dormer talk about Fantasy Worlds.
Did wish they showed some of the casting process. Like how the heck, did they get Awkwafina and whose idea was it to bring in Bill Hader (Andy Samberg apparently begged for a role so did he bring in Bill Hader as a result?). And did Lena Headey sign on because they gave her character a dog with an eye patch, an axe, and a good character arc?

Anyone else watch The Americans? I'm on Season 6 now.

This inspired me to start watching again. I watched seasons 1-2 a long time ago, and just fell off for no particular reason as I really liked it. So I’m starting it all over again.

Nina reminds me of Elena Ilinykh for some reason.

I started The Crown season 3 episode 4 and I really hate Prince Phillip with a passion. Have hated him since season 1. Right now, I'm all board with just chucking the whole monarchy. The show has great production values, great acting, and it's nice in a time capsule sort of way, but I find myself not really caring about these people's problems. I cared about Princess Margaret in season 1 and a very young Prince Charles is season 2, and Elizabeth in all seasons to an extent, but not really enough for me to feel for them in a deep way.

Interesting, as I thought Phillip was portrayed as more likable in this season.

I like this actor much better than goofy looking Matt Smith, but I truly dislike the character as he's portrayed on this show. The only character I really cared about this season was Prince Charles as portrayed by Josh O'Connor. Olivia Colman wasn't given much to do as QEII is just a passive watcher most of the time while the writers delve into the armchair psychology of the other royals. I was begging for a divorce for Margaret and Tony by the last episode because their whole relationship as portrayed by the show was tedious, one thing I agreed with Prince Philip about during her birthday even if he just did it because he is incapable of having any empathy for anyone. I hope the next season has much more focus because I feel like this season introduced a lot of things about what was going on in Britain in the 1960s-70s but did not really delve deeply into anything. It seemed to just use certain things to go from plot point to plot point in a matter-of-fact but almost incoherent way until Elizabeth drove the point of it all home when she was finally like "Gee, this country is a mess, would people wanna see little ole' me?".

Helena Bonham Carter's portrayal of Princess Margaret sometimes reminds me of Bellatrix Lestrange, especially when she's angry.

I'm four episodes into S3 of The Crown. The first one barely held my interest, but I thought Ep 2 was very entertaining even though I still prefer Vanessa Kirby as Margaret. Ep 3 is just heartbreaking.

Hulu is now streaming A&E's Born Behind Bars.

Nearly 75,000 women enter American prisons annually and as many as 10 percent of them are pregnant at the time of their incarceration. In most prisons, the babies are separated from their mothers immediately following birth. A few penitentiaries, however, offer programs that allow the women to raise their children inside of a maximum security prison. This show goes inside the Wee Ones Program at the Indiana Women’s Prison, following several inmates at various stages of the program as they navigate the volatile prison environment while raising their babies. “Born Behind Bars” also profiles the staffers, including tough-love guards and inmate nannies, who help care for the newborns.

Very interesting program. In the first episode, Kara lost her son Charlie because of potential signs of neglect or abuse. They monitor how mothers speak to their kids. One of the issues was that she told her son he had nothing to cry about which concerned them because crying is how babies communicate. They realize a lot of these women come from abusive backgrounds so the rules are very harsh and enforced.

The show pointed out several times that this was a maximum security prison first. One of the guards or nannies said that none of these women were sent there for singing too loud in church so it is a constant concern for the children's safety. It's a big deal to break the rules and the women are in constant fear they will lose their spot in the program.

However, the women also learn how to become better parents. They have counseling sessions about avoiding abusive relationships and also receive job training. If they can make it through the program, very few come back to prison.

I watched the 1st episode out of curiosity but will probably finish the series.
