And what is with Korea forcing them to compete over and over?! It's a long season, let them rest already.
Here is the list of reasons why Korean skaters have long seasons.
- In theory, KSU requires only 2 competitions (ranking and National) for seniors and one additional (JGP selection) for juniors. However, South Korea does not offer summer club competitions, which forces skaters to look for suitable competitions for somewhere else.
- Winter Festival results are necessary to create a college application portfolio. Figure skaters cannot skip this competition since they compete with athletes from other disciplines for a limited entrance quota.
- South Korea does not have a varsity league for figure skaters. In lieu of this, schools require skaters to participate in Winter Festival competitions.
