I love how Italy suddenly has three amazing, promising male skaters! A “Mini Sambo-70” for men?

If someone is going to state (translate) the nominations criteria, I am thankful!
It's always an awful long text with ITA fed, which makes no sense at all with google transalte
(Starting from point 32)
Well I'm not that good in fs terms in italian but I want to understand myself. So I'll try my best to translate. Corrections are welcome :saint:
I'll write not the whole thing but the most important
32. The nomination of the athletes/pairs of the national team to the ISU Campionships etc will be made on the basis of the rankind calculated:
  • after the end of the Italian National Champ for the nomination to the Euros and Youth Olympics, Universiade
  • after the Euros but not later then the end of the Junior Worlds admission, in case if there will be no or too less events in the ISU Calendar for the second part of the season, for the Junior and Senior Worlds, Olympics, all Team events and World Team Trophy, unless otherwise indicated by CONI or by the ISU for the closing of admission
33. The ranking will be calculated by summing the total score including choreo sequance (SP+FS) of the National Champs with:
  • 2 highest total scors from the international events, ISU international events and ISU Event and possibly one national event if there will be lack of international events - for Euros and Junior Olympics
  • 3 highest total scors from the international events, ISU international events and ISU Event chosen by Commissione Technica (?) - for the Junior and Senior Worlds, Olympics, all Team events and World Team Trophy. At least one of these events must be obtained after the Italian Nationals
34. If an athlete with the relevant sporting merits (participation with a result within top 10 at
Olympics, Junior and Senior World Championships and within top 5 at the European Championships, to the Team Event or at the Junior or Senior Grand Prix Final) does not have a ranking position, the Commissione Tecnica can, after checking the athlete's current form, still send him or her to the one of the events of ISU Championships (?)
35. The athlete who, for a good reason, cannot take part in the Italian Championship, can replace the score with the total score (short + free) of another international competition of the current season or, failing that, of the last international event held the previous season whose total score must be multiplied by the coefficient 0.9 referring to ISU event or Challenger Series and 0.8 for international event
36. The athletes will gradually be enrolled in the ISU Championships based on the ranking position
37. In case if the difference in score in the ranking between two or more athletes competing for the
admissionis less than or equal to:
  • 30 points in the male category
  • 20 points in the female category
  • 15 points in the couples category
the Commissione Tecnica can enrol not only the athlete or the couple with the best ranking position, but also those in subsequent positions, to allow the athletes of the same level to gain experience in important events taking into account also the ISU ranking and, for the Junior, YOG and EYOF World Championships, the execution of the mandatory elements with the biggest value in the Short Program.
38. If an athlete of the National Team can be enrolled due to his ranking position for competition, but is of an inadequate technical and athletic level for the competition itself and there is no higher level athlete that can be enrolled, the Commissione Tecnica may leave vacant the post due to Italy without making any other enrolment
39. The Commissione Tecnica in extraordinary circumstances can in any case propose enrolments against the form of these Regulations.
To be continued... 😊

Thanks a lot.
So the scenario seems pretty much the same to former years.
I guess the ITA GP scores are counting now too with not much international competitions going on and the ITA GP lined-up with a good roster.

40. about JGP
41. Commissione Technica can enroll more then one athlet with equal ammount of points for the one competition to compare them in action or to test them before the competition.
42. CT state the minimum total score for the admition
43. Max number of events to partisipate:
National Team and Junior National Team athlets - 6 events
Challenger Series - max 3 events with only 2 of them to count in ranking
Athletes with a real chence to participate ISU Championships and Olympics - the TC reserves the right to consider any admissions for additional international competitions, in agreement with and / or on request of the respective coaches for the reasons of planing, training or international ranking
Elete list athlets not members of the National Team - 4 events
National list athletes not members of the National Team - 1 or 2 in case if there will be spots
Interregional athletes - no events
Junior and Senior Grand Prix, other ISU invitational competitions, ISU Championships, Universiade, Olympics,
Youth Olympics, EYOF, Military Championships and Team Event are not considered before the determination of the maximum number of assignable events
The rest, I think, didnt change at all and it is about what it is needed to be enrolled for the events and how to get to the National team

Carolina Kostner article by Andrea Buongiovanni (Oct. 11):
Google translated excerpt of the end:
THE FUTURE- We talk about the importance of parents, mum Patrizia and dad Erwin ("Home and Ortisei remain my safe landing place"), of cousin Isolde, former great skier, of the generation of new skaters, younger and more and more technical who dominate the world and inevitably, absent from the races since March 2018, of the future: “I have a sea of projects to carry out - she admits - but all are conditioned by the return on ice. I do not exclude they may also be of a competitive nature. But I'm just back from a hip operation and a series of injuries: I want to heal better, 100% and then we'll see. I am the most impatient ”. Everyone misses Carolina.

Carolina does not have an ounce of laziness in her. Without a doubt, she is one of the most determined, hardworking athletes skating has ever had.

ETA: the unfortunate downside of this glorious sport we enjoy so much - hip injuries. :(

That's an interesting (though not totally surprising) move.
Now all 3 top Italians are with Magri.
This might get even more :drama: than already with assumably only 2 spots for olympics (if at all) :watch:
This is literally what I'm thinking of :40beers: So these new italian grand prix series are now much more interesting as long as it's the only chance to see the result of this move before nationals

Many apologies if this has already been posted in competition thread (I don't have a subscription to access them).
The FISG announced which skaters/teams have qualified for the final (due to be held in Bergamo on 13th/14th February).

Men: Grassl, Rizzo, Frangipani, Dalla Torre
Ladies: Guttmann, Negrello, Beccari, Leccardi, Rodeghiero, Tornaghi
Pairs: Ghilardi/Ambrosini, Conti/Macii, Della Monica/Guarise
Ice Dance: Guignard/Fabbri, Moscheni/Fioretti
(It's a shame they didn't include Calderone/Riva too, I would've enjoyed seeing them again; they'd improved a lot since Nationals)
Junior Ice Dance: Portesi Peroni/Chrastecky, Calderari/Cilli, Tali/Frasca

Full articles about the final here (FISG) and here (OA Sport), both in Italian but Google Translate does a fairly good job.

I really look forward to seeing all the skaters again at this event.

Daniel Grassl's free is like watching a bottom of the pack Tutberdize's female skater. Barely rotated quads, utterly pointless transitions before the jumps, and a costume reveal halfway through

Oh dear really? But he is a cutie patootie

Has Tornaghi been injured or something like that?
She had tendinitis which caused her to withdraw from the fourth stage of the Gran Premio (which explains why her total points are lower). IIRC, at the time she said in an Instagram post that she'd previously skated through the pain, but felt she couldn't do that anymore. I guess she was recovered/recovering by the Final, but possibly wasn't still back to competing her full content.
Hopefully, now she can rest and be truly recovered for next season.

Interview with Russian coach Angelina Turenko who now works with Lorenzo Magri in Young Goose Academy

- This winter you joined the Italian Young Goose Academy. How did it all work out?
- I have known the staff of this club for a long time: I went there for training camps, gave master classes and brought my students. Gabriele Frangipani, a talented student of the Academy, came for an internship to St. Petersburg. When head coach Lorenzo Magri found out that my husband and I settled in Lombardy, he immediately offered me a job. The club is located in a neighboring region: I go there by car and live for 4-5 days, and on the weekend I return home. I train many skaters, the most famous are singles Daniel Grassl, Matteo Rizzo and Gabriele Frangipani. I also work with juniors, supervise children. We have a lot of ice, and psychologically I feel comfortable in the new team.
- Do you note something special in the training process in Italy?
- I like that the academy has a system: gliding classes, choreography, jumps, separate work on the program and transitions, gym. There are physiotherapists and massage therapists. The classics are taught by a choreographer who once worked with Carolina Kostner. This is a rarity in Europe, where usually only a coach and a choreographer work with a skater. Today, in order to have a result, a large team of multidisciplinary specialists is needed. Lorenzo often invites strong Russian coaches to visit, his students went to training camps with Alexei Mishin, Svetlana Sokolovskaya, Evgeny Rukavitsyn.

There's a new interview with Guignard and Fabbri in the May/June edition of German FS magazine Pirouette.
With my rudimentary German and some help from Google Translate, I've put together the highlights below.
(The article is only available behind a paywall, so I'm not posting the full translation, in case that is not allowed.)
  • Feelings on the past season: it was a very strange season, but they were happy to be able to take part in Worlds and WTT. They feel very lucky that the FISG organised the Gran Premio so that the Italian skaters could compete and stay in shape. It was odd to compete in front of an audience again at WTT, after not having had one all season.
  • Dealing with the ongoing global situation: the unpredictability was difficult, as they began preparing for competitions which were then cancelled. They found it difficult sometimes to find motivation. They got positive feedback on their FD at Worlds/WTT so decided to keep it, which also allows them to focus a bit more on the new RD.
  • Choosing the FD: they had seen the film of Atonement a couple of years ago, and Barbara suggested the music. They wanted to find music which was similar to their Schindler's List program, which is their favourite program.
  • On being a couple on and off ice: they never argue off the ice, and only very occasionally on the ice. They are always there for each other and help to motivate each other. They try to forget about skating when they're at home.
  • In their free time: they like to go for walks in the park and sometimes meet up with friends. The past year has been tricky because they haven't been able to see friends or family very much.
  • The new RD theme: they think it will be interesting to see the big variety of programs that the theme allows for.

ISU feature on Nicole Della Monica/Matteo Guarise (interviewed at WTT): https://www.isu.org/figure-skating/...-what-we-have-and-what-we-do?templateParam=15
Excerpts:
Now the Olympic season is to come and it might be the last one for the Pair Skaters. They might keep the Short Program, but they change the Free Skating for sure and are working on it with former top-level Italian Ice Dancer Massimo Scali. “We want to have a good preparation during the summer, so that during the season, we can just go and practice as we did before the World Championships. So hopefully, no more stops, no more hard times. We really want to give what we have left for this probably last season,” Della Monica said.
“The plan is to get in good shape and try to do something more than what we used to do. To do that, we need to be at a 100%,” Guarise explained. “The elements will be probably the same, maybe the (jump) combo will be a triple-double-double, because lately the Toeloop which used to be a big issue for us is going well. We also have to do a very good preparation off ice for the same reason, because we will push more. So all muscles will be sore. We need to prepare the right way, because if you have to stop because of an injury or because of pain, it kills all the plans.”
There is a life after skating, and Nicole, 31 and Matteo, 32, obviously have been thinking about their future. “We have actually many options,” she said. “The first option would be to stay in Figure Skating as coaches. The second option would be to go work as regular policemen because if we want, this can be our job forever or we can leave the police and just do something different.”
Gabriele Frangipani recently shared a clip of his 4F in practice: https://www.instagram.com/p/CQGeLu3owYx/
