I remember that day. I was at work but I took a mini break by clicking on fsu. It said MJ was taken to the ER and it sounded very bad. I checked back after some time and he was gone. I watched a lot of TV that evening and subsequent days.

Michael's estate published a tribute on the 10th anniversary of his passing.

I feel very uncomfortable with the press release. I don't really recall many other artist's estates putting out such a lengthy press release for the ten year anniversary of a death, and it seems very self serving like they're painting him out to be beyond reproach. I'm sure his victims don't appreciate seeing things like that.

Michael Jackson was a great artist and that cannot be ignored, whether you liked his art or not. He had his flaws but so did many other artists. I appreciate the art.

No-one is trashing MJ, I think all sentiments have been respectfully stated. I don't understand how on earth you didn't think the allegations made against him wouldn't be brought up in a thread about him.

And I don't think it would ever be appropriate to have a love/fanfest thread about him anywhere.

I remember if very well. I was working at E-911 that day when the news first came on about Farah Fawcett passing from Cancer. Then the news about Michael's death came later.

I remember how the news about Michael's death took over with just a small amount of coverage about Farrah's death. I remember seeing the documentary in May of that year (Farah's Story) - Farah Fawcett, Actress and Iconic Beauty dies of Cancer at 62

This is from Oprah magazine, I also saw a documentary from some of Farah's closest friends a few days ago on Reelz TV.

I've always been aware about the allegations regarding Michael, but I was devastated in a way with both of their deaths being on June 25th. I guess it affected me a lot since Michael was only 12 days older than me. I'll always love his music being that I fell in love with the Jackson Five from the beginning.

What is so terrible about a family celebrating its own member?

Michael Jackson was a great artist and that cannot be ignored, whether you liked his art or not. He had his flaws but so did many other artists. I appreciate the art.

There is nothing wrong with the family celebrating, but I think it would be best for them to do so in private.

The harm he did to others is a bit more than a flaw.

One really has to draw the line somewhere when it comes to supporting celebrities who have harmed others. Fond remembrances of Jackson might qualify as support. If one supports such celebrities, it tacitly endorses their behaviour.

I wouldn't watch Kevin Spacey in anything again - though that's not an issue, since he can't get work anymore. And I stopped watching Woody Allen films years ago, which was not difficult since I find him neurotic and egotistical in any case.

There seem to be more and more 'don't watch because' actors coming out of the woodworks. It's not so easy to watch movies as it once was.

After I was convinced that the rumors about him & young boys were true I never again had bought his music or supported him in any way until after his death. My feelings about him did a 180. But you can't say one minute that you love a song & then after you find out your hero has feet of clay (don't we all?) you say that you hate that song. It doesn't work that way. I'll always believe that he was a musical genius. It's not supporting him if I still believe that. He's dead.

Right after his death a friend & I went to see his film This is It. Both of us sat throughout without moving or talking. We were mesmerized. Like @Simone411 I had enjoyed his music from the beginning but I really had no idea how charismatic he was or what a good dancer he was. Maybe I'll always remember him as that charming little boy with mega talent.

That's exactly how I remember him. There were two hit songs that came out around the same time by the Jackson Five and by The Osmond Brothers. I nearly wore out those two records.

I could not agree more! I have an ever growing list of movies I will not see because of the actors in them.
Now I have to add one of my favorite TV shows to the list. Bummed.

It is right up there with Bill Cosby who was a genius artist, and made an enormous contribution to TV and to us, by showing an educated, dedicated and marvelous family that broke the mold on the typical stereotypical shows about black families.

He did some of the most wonderful work ever. And, nobody, I betcha, is going to be celebrating him.
