Isabeau Levito Fan Thread!

I listened to the final episode of Milan Magic on YouTube where Brennan and Boitano discuss Prague worlds. Brian said he didn’t understand the second call given to Isabeau on the triple flip/double axel. Brian thought she should have won the bronze medal and was really under marked. He also really likes her making such a bold technical move between Olympics and Worlds. He had originally predicted a Japanese sweep. I find his analysis always interesting!

And she got some pretty tough calls on levels and rotations while Nina Pinzarrone got some major breaks on her rotations; I'll bet this is the first time in a long time that Nina got no qs at all in either her short or her long. (Anyone think it is a coincidence that the technical specialist for both the short and long was Belgian?) IMO, Nina should not be getting comparable PCS as Isabeau. But, I'm biased and wasn't there.

But, Nina beating Isabeau by more than 8 points had me . Even putting Isabeau aside, I don't think Nina should have been received the scores she did.

FYI, in the past, Jason frequently has posted on Instagram throughout the SOI tour and he often includes Isabeau. It sounds like they might maybe do the videos together this year?

ETA: Yeah, I definitely think that Isabeau is going to be doing more SOI videos. She just posted this before and after of a bunch of the skaters. (There were two SOI shows on the same day.)

Isabeau posted a bunch of photos and clips today. Some are Blade Angels. My favorite is the slide move she is rehearsing with Jason. It's reminiscent of a slide move Madi and Evan did.

Isabeau does seem to love being lifted in various ways. (And also likes to do the lifting sometimes.)

Here's an interview with Isabeau. She says she has an injury due to a fall in one of the SOI shows, but it sounds like it isn't that serious. I hope she heals soon. She sounds eager to push her skating next season:

I'm cross-posting from the U.S. Women's thread.

Isabeau is working with Benoit. I had been wondering if this might happen - and I know these photos will set tongues wagging for reasons other than skating.

I'm sure this is just for a few weeks, but I think it's great that she is working with someone new. I think her coach/choreographers do a good job with her choreography, but she's been working with them forever and it's beneficial to work with a variety of choreographers.

She still wasn't jumping last week, but she was playing around with choreo and ice dance, so hopefully this will be productive.

He has admitted that he doesn't know much about jumps. (He was an ice dancer.) But, he does bring top people in to help him with the jumps.

I just don't think they can do much with Isabeau's jumps right now if she still isn't jumping due to her injury. When SOI ended, she still wasn't jumping. She's trying to avoid falling so that the injury can heal. (Plus, she fell on the injury just stroking during one of the shows and said that it was blindingly painful.) If she's not jumping with a technique she knows, I don't think she's going to tinker with her technique now.

But, fingers crossed, she's healed now or very soon. And maybe she'll go back to Benoit later in the summer. My impression from the last interview definitely is that she is planning to stay with her coach, who she has been with since she was three. But, she's older now, looking to be more aggressive with what she tries, and pretty obviously wanting to spend more time with Gogo, so I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up intermittently going to Benoit and his team. Plus, she pretty clearly loves playing around with new choreography and skating with other elite skaters.

Not yet. Unfortunately, Benoit's idea of "soon" does not match my idea of "soon."

Peak Ice didn't post any photos or videos from the exhibition but they did post a bunch of photos from after the exhibition. Isabeau is in there, posing for several photos, including one with Stephen and Mishin. Unfortunately, I didn't see her in any of the photos from earlier in the day when Mishin was working with some of the skaters. I would love it if she could work with Mishin on her jumps, but I haven't seen any clips of her jumping since she was injured.

I follow her closely on social media and did see some photos. I didn’t really expect to see any video, but I was hoping that some information might’ve leaked out about her chosen music for this season. I guess we will just have to wait until maybe she makes an announcement herself.

There is a new interview with Isabeau. The interview is behind a paywall, but a lot of the info has been posted online.

She has confirmed that Lori Nichol and Carolina Kostner choreographed her short program. The music is Memória by Rosalia.

She wanted to do a long program that had a story and varying types of energy in the program. Benoit suggested Pirates of the Carribean and she immediately was on board.

She once again says that she played it too safe last season and that she wants to add more difficulty, like a triple axel or quad. She is very frustrated that she is injured and can't work on that right now. She is less focused on her placements this coming season and more focused on what she does in her training. It's a priority for her to be able to do these more difficult jumps, even if it doesn't go into her program. She's considering not doing Challengers in order to give her more time to train.

I hope she fully recovers soon and can start jumping again.

Benoit sure is posting a lot of Isabeau considering that they have so many skaters at Peak Ice and Isabeau hasn't been there in a couple of weeks. He even went to the trouble of creating an image of her in a pirate costume. Content with her in it must be good for getting views and attracting more campers.

There already are some skaters responding to the post. Adam Rippon, her "father," is very excited and Amber says "+5s or the judges must walk the plank."

Levito could/should have a big PCS advantage, but her programs the past two seasons have been so conservative, both in style and content. All of her free skates -- even Nureyev, which I loved, have ended almost with a whimper rather than a bang. The clip posted is such a refreshing change - a fast footwork sequence (like the one posted) with acting / facial expression, a blinding Y-spin, and program that builds to a big bang. If she skates the whole program with this kind of freedom, I think her PCS could skyrocket. I want to see 9+ on every component, 9.5 even. She has the ability.

She's so good in the SOI group numbers - an actress and a performer. She should exploit that talent as much as possible in her competitive programs. I've loved her short programs. They have lots of personality and expression. But, IMO, her long programs haven't always been dynamic enough. She has talked before about how much she likes being very precise with every single movement; I think this is part of the reason why she doesn't really skate with a sense of abandon. This music and choreography might force her to skate with more freedom. (There needs to be a balance; it can't be too sloppy.) I'm really looking forward to seeing the completed program. I'm curious to see what the choreographed spin is.

I have no idea what the judges will do with her, though. The protocols at Worlds showed how hard they are on her, IMO. She seemed to be the sacrificial third American women's skater.

While I have liked Isabeau’s previous long programs, I do believe they lacked a dramatic ending. This program could show what has been lacking if she sticks with it. A couple of seasons ago she abandoned her Yearning (snake) short program before Nationals because I think she said that choreography was too difficult or something. I thought that’s what I heard, but I could be wrong. Needless to say, I can’t wait to see her new programs in full with costumes. If she goes to Lisa McKinnon again for her costumes, there may be a delay like last season when she didn’t have them ready for Champs Camp or Cranberry Cup, and it wasn’t until Nebelhorn that we got to see both costumes. Also, Lisa McKinnon recently got married and may be on a honeymoon and get a delayed start on this season‘s costumes for Isabeau and many other skaters.
