Also, one more thing, might I respectfully remind our passionate gymnastics fans that the gymnasts already know each other pretty well, very well, actually, via comps throughout the season, and in many cases without the aid of a camp, as I have already mentioned in another post. Again, and not to be redundant, but many gymnasts have formed very meaningful friendships along the way that were not introduced at a camp. Consider that the other take on the camp bonding/training discussion. Their natural abilities and talents will get them prepared and ready to compete very quickly. It’s what they do!
Btw, most coaches DO love the idea of camps (some, not so much) for obvious reasons, but that's more about strategy than anything else which they also gather from competitions.
My point is, the women do not need to revisit, ever again, a controlling and abusive environment that they, unfortunately, experienced at Camp Károlyi.
I would like to see USAG give the entire camp requirement a break and focus on repairing the damage that has been done to so many gymnasts and their families. They need to worry about doing that, first, rather than rounding everyone up for their (required) camps!
