Gymnastics #25 - Onward to LA

I don't think . . . heels [on the Floor] mattered that much. We are talking about 0.1-0.2 out of 14. It's just something easy to point at.

Is this how it goes with gymnastics these days? Basically, controversial results are argued based on nickle and diming the last event performed rather than looking at each individual event and pointing out how each was under or over scored?

Most fans are only following what the announcers are saying, and the OOB and the fall out on the turn were mentioned and also obvious to the layperson. Gymnastics scoring doesn’t have a little COP box in the upper left corner to follow along with. Can you imagine?

I'm so happy Donnell won! I stayed up late to watch event finals on demand because I didn't want to get spoiled for it, and I'm SO glad I got to see it live. What a wonderful result!

And great that he won it especially because I've read some more code changes are going to devalue his dismount (remove a bonus actually), which would make it a lot harder to win.

Blakeley was beautiful on bars, shame she just missed out on the podium due to D Score. I am pulling for her to stay healthy for LA.

Honestly, 4th on bars was an absolute WIN for Skye. Many people felt she'd have a hard time even making the final. 4th was better than could have been expected.

Overall, I'm pleased with the American ladies. Dulcy is very young, and she has time. Suni had a lot of inconsistency issues when she was younger as well, and look at her now!

That being said, I did hear a lot of "Dulcy proved the doubters wrong!" after quals, which surprised me. I don't think I've ever heard anyone suggest that Dulcy's gymnastic wouldn't score well internationally The concern for her has always been consistency, and I think worlds showed that continued to be a concern. But like I said, she's young, especially now that people don't act like gymnasts expire at 18 anymore. She may improve on that front.

Before worlds, I heard a lot of "US fans better get ready to come home with 0 medals for the women" and "when was the last time US won 0 medals," so I'm glad to see Leanne and Josc prove the doubters wrong! Certainly it was not as strong a showing as in the past, but we have a lot of injured gymnasts as well. I expect the US to be less dominant, not only without Simone, but because the world is catching up. I don't think that's a bad thing. But I still think they'll be competitive. It's only the first year of the quad.

I saw a clear freeze frame of Melnikova FX from behind her. Her right heel was out, her left ball of foot was on the line with her heel in the air. So the left foot did not touch out of bounds.

It’s very hard to tell from a freeze frame because there’s no way to know for sure if that’s the farthest her foot went or just a moment that happened.

That being said, I think all discussion about the OOB is a distraction from how criminally high her E scores were on beam and floor. With E scores that reflected her performance, the 0.2 would not matter.

Agree on her scores in general. The .1 should have made no difference.

Can you imagine
in 1974 somebody screenshoting Nellie Kim's FX to argue her knee was out of bounds during her final pose?!? :p

Per Gymnastics Now, The Swiss Federal Supreme Court has accepted Jordan Chiles and USA Gymnastics’ requests for revision in the Olympic floor bronze medal case, referring the case back to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in light of new evidence from an audio-visual recording discovered after CAS’ decision to strip the bronze from Chiles and award it to Romania’s Ana Barbosu in August 2024. The Federal Supreme Court “acknowledged that this new evidence may justify a modification of the contested award.

Was considering a US Men's World team poll but can anyone fill me in on what is going on with Brody, Asher, Fred, and Fuzzy? I know Fred was at Winter Cup and the rest besides Brody did NCAA, but will they be competing in the summer/fall?

Also curious for thoughts on which 5 men should be on my poll besides Kameron, Donnell, Yul, Patrick Hoopes, Taylor Burkhart...of course a lot depends on if Brody, Asher, and Fred are in there...

Presumably if athletes competed elite last year and haven't said they are quitting, we should assume they are competing this year. Fred has been clear that he is aiming for worlds on instagram.

Top Scores for Women 2026 Nationals- includes GBR, JPN, CHN, CAN, MEX
I left out the CHN event scores from their AA comp (but included the Event Final scores or whatever that would be called) since there seemed to be bonus points applied that made the scores seem a little out of wack.
