GPdF 2025 PBP - Rhythm Dance: “Rock Around The Cock”

Fear and Gibson are really trying to push it in both programs this year with the content. She's still nowhere near his level but it's not like she's a poor skater. It just stands out because he's usually so smooth. I HATE HATE HATE the edge pulls between their twizzles though. Talk about automatically killing the speed and then clonking through the second set.

I also don't love the remixes they chose for the program. The entire second half is giving some samba/rhumba whatever when they could've just done all the cheese with regular Spice Girls.

They will lead by a lot.

Such a contrast: Fear & Gibson's first 10 seconds are engaging, fun, and it feels authentic to the program.

Technically so much weaker. Issues during the midline (far apart, loss of unison). Pattern steps are slow. But who cares when you are performing and giving like this? The judges clearly don't. GOE is nuts for that program, but at least I wasn't cringing and just wanting to look away.

Choreo Rhythm Sequence
Rotational Lift 4

Lewis & Lilah living their best lives in this program, and, of course they are as they've been some version of this program for the past 8 years. Still, it's fun, and they really brought the Spice Girls to the ice.

84.38 = 1st Place

Fun skate, blade work skimming the top of the ice and not really digging in and using edges, sigh. Good use of music and great performance quality

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the day and weekend - I am "triple booked" and one event today and tomorrow requires in-person participation. I will be watching most of the rest of GPdF on a delayed basis (as I will for the presentations at a 2-day virtual British Isles genealogy conference).

Nice to see that with this Latin tempo these two have finally got some more complex holds than what they usually bring. A few little bobbles but a strong start for them.

The Italians HAVE TO withdraw from their second event and go back to the drawing board. I am quite sure even with a stunning FD that they will be out of the picture for a GPF spot so what's the point and sinking down behind other teams in event 2? The PCS was enough to tell the story, and the TES is only getting more rusty.

And when they go back to the drawing board, they have to get the concept exactly right. Which I have zero confidence in because they always miss the mark there.

So, the main takeaway from the RD - GuigFab made a crucial error in not getting their programs out before the judges last month. Their only hope for an Olympic medal, at this point, is a TE bronze - and they've got quite a fight on their hands with Georgia surging.

@tony is right, though - they should withdraw from NHK - 2nd and 4th won't be enough to make the GPF. Spend the next 6 weeks retooling the RD (who knows what the FD looks like) and try it out at something like Golden Spin before Italian Nationals, then pray they can climb back into medal contention for Euros.

If not for Guillame's stumble, I think FB&C would be in first.
Yep, almost certainly. They got 0.86 for that element. And they also got hit with -1 for the "fall". Fear/Gibson got 8.21 for the element. So, I think we can safely add 7 or 8 points to the 78.00 had Guillaume not "fallen". And PCS might have gone up some, too. So, definitely would have been first.

💯. FB&C may still win the event too given the GOEs they were getting. The deficit isn’t insurmountable if the judges score them 130+, which we could easily see.

All I really, really want is an RD theme that doesn't suck.
That and the elements need to be redone. Same thing as the FD and same thing across all disciplines really. There's so much time invested in two step sequences, a twizzle sequence that likely starts the program, and then an outrageously scored vibes-only choreographic step and spin to end the program in either order.

The themes are cheesy, the skaters don't know how to interpret them anyways and there's not enough time to really get vibes from anything, either. And some of the vibes we do get mid-elements are so far removed from actual skating

And no touching the ice.
