German Skating Season 2020-21

Sure, but her 162 from Westfalen would put her 13th, the same spot as Schott...at this point Schott has had 4 Worlds and 5 Euros and results are staying the same or going backwards. Time to try someone else, sorry, that is harsh but that is sport.

I agree. Nicole gets 7s in PCS and Aya without international reputation got 6s. If she has a couple more internationals she will get at least the same components because she has Benoit as a choreographer. And now that she lands the 2A-3S in competition I think she can land a 3-3 by next season. Her other jumps are also becoming more consistent (still < but much improved). And to be honest if I were a German judge I would try to get "coach Aljona" to the Olympics and get some much needed attention for the sport. For what other reason would a TV station air an event with a sole German competitor fighting to be in the top 20...?

The discussion comparing scores of different events goes back/forth, so I won’t argue here more. We have just different opinions here.

Re Aya: I agree here. Overall she has much more potential imho than Nargiz to score big and gain momentum on international stage.
I fear the kinda hype around her and Aliona might work in the opposite direction though.

Over all those years Germany had quite some promising junior ladies, most of them did not make it to seniors on a somehow decent level at all. So let’s just hope for those 2! ??

Re postponing nationals to a later date
"Postponing the championships to the end of February would have made sense from a sporting point of view, but the German Ice Skating Union could not finance it," said Association Vice President Reinhard Ketterer. He regrets the short-term cancellations: "It goes without saying that the results must be put into perspective."

Someone on this thread mentioned that it might be hard to keep two spots for pairs without H/K and I disagree. I think H/S are more than capable of placing in the top 10, if worlds were to take place in 2021. There last performance was abnormal for them. Give them time and they will be fine.

This person was me and the statement was not made based on their last 'abnormal' performance.

Everything goes 'normal' we have 6 teams ranked above them at least:
CHN#1#2, RUS#1#2#3, CAN#1

Amongst the other teams for Top10 we have:
ITA#1, AUT, USA#1#2, PRK, CAN#2

So (potentially of course), including H/S we have 7 teams competing for 4 spots.
I have no doubts that H/S could manage Top10 on 2 good days. But they have no big PCS advantage to the other teams, so it comes down to TES on the days.

With H/K (almost the same level) we would have 8 teams for potential 6 spots, 2 of them germans.
So 2 teams entered seems a pretty good start to hold on to those 2 spots (especially with 13/14 placement still is enough for 2 spots).
1 team entered seems a lot like a 50/50, 60/40 chance to me, especially as H/S are not known for holding it in the FS together on regular basis.

I understand what you’re saying. It is easier to keep the two spots with two teams, that is for sure. Last season H/S skated and placed the best they have ever done. I really think they can do it.
Also, there is a lot of talk about what the “rules” are going to be this year for qualifications, given it’s the Olympic qualifying year. I heard some countries were considering not sending their athletes. That being said all of the normal qualifying rules would have to be adjusted for this season anyway.

I thought she had retired, but this article says that Marold is training for the olympics...

I can't imagine that this article corresponds to reality. After the sighting run in Mannheim she was cancelled from participating at NHT Oberstdorf. She'd have a lot of catching up to do until this happens.

German media and figure skating...it's always a trashfest consisting of lack of knowledge about the sport, unrealistic goals and unnecessary exaggerated praise for the German skaters.

I am in a FS fan group on facebook and most people in there probably only watch figure skating when it's on tv and read those articles and they seriously think Nicole Schott is better than Shcherbakova, Valieva etc. and always complain about the evil Russians who win everything. Delusion level over 9000.

Nothing to add.:scream:

Short Q&A with Hocke/Kunkel
Same account has Hase too.

I wrote „thought“, as I just assumed, because she was not entered for any competitions this season.
I had forgotten that she was present at the summer monitoring.

It probably doesnt help that she trains in Austria. She would probably need to test and quarantine every time she crosses the boarder to Germany.

thanks for clarifying. Would have been a great pity.
I just rewatched nationals and was missing quite a few names, especially in ladies. I expected her and Hatakawa to challenge Schott, but obviously that didn´t happen may it be thanks to the -19 or other health issues.

Nice surprise in general, that there are ladies attempting quads as Suleymanova does.
Watching her performing she sometimes looks at unease with sth. I am not sure what it is, but wish her to find peace with herself (hard as a teenager anyways) and performing, but was wondering if she has all the support she needs concerning costumes (think this years dress suits her better than jumpsuits) and programs?
I find her way of moving and carrying the arms much more elegant than one would suspect from facial expressions, indicating uncertainty, what might be helped by a program she can really connect to.

As far as i know she does'nt train in Austria since she finished season 2019/2020 very early.
She could'nt train constantly because of having knee pain for several months.
About school (homeschooling?) is written in the article above.
In Summer 2020 she took part of a DEU training camp in Suisse.

The German Fed managed to put up the retirement notification of Koch & Nüchtern as well
Took a while...

Seriously, I cannot recall too many retirement announcements by german fed.
It's nice to see the skaters are (finally) getting at least a send-off-note.

It's sad to read, that obviously the partnership did not end the best way, especially after the long road they have been through/gone together.

All the best ?
