Corrupt judges don't present a risk to someone's personal safety though...
The last time I checked he has not been arrested or charged with anything let alone found guilty. Yes, it is concerning but in a democratic nation, like France, he isn't going to be banned from purchasing a ticket or entering the facility because of an incident that occurred in another country. Now, if he went to China, maybe the Chinese government would be so kind as to detain him.

Moceanu was talking about her own federation, however the criticism is coming up in an era of Russian dominance from a Finnish athlete. Kiira talking about her own federation is fine, but using that to cast a shadow on another federation is were the problem lay. The logic here is that my federation sucks hence Russians should suck more since they have far more successful athletes.
Russian skaters have made comments that are troubling about food and water restrictions. I would hope that no federation uses these concerns to circle the wagons and claim "not us", but instead uses 2019 awareness of the devastating affects of abuse and eating disorders and cares more about the athletes than their results.

Again Canadian based coach has been starving and water restriction, Gabby is still a mess, kurakova is still under water restriction. i hope the federation bans the group from coaching, they seem to be doing nothin. Canada should ban them instead of looking at other countries...

Well, I have never heard that before. Again, ANY coaches or federation that does not take these issues seriously and look at themselves is acting irresponsibly. As for Gabby - I think she deserves compassion and support - which I hope she is getting. When we reach the point that this is not about a particular coach, federation or country and about the health and wellbeing of young women - we will be so much further ahead. I suspect the Russian quad girls are being looked at closely because no one knows if they can maintain these jumps after puberty. I suspect if they can and do - that will silence the critics.

Also, why is there a special treatment for Gabby, oh she is one of us. Instead of Russian athletes may be then focus on Alysia Liu, why is she getting a pass. All the Japanese female athletes are small and looks fragile, why are they getting a pass.

Who? Lee Barkell? If you are trying to throw shade on Orser, then you have Daleman's coach wrong.

Nice try.

Higuchi? Sakamoto? Kihira? None of them are small and fragile looking.

The level of desperation here...

Gabby was his student when the problem started.. nice try.

Kihira is quite fragile, so does Miyahara...

Well, I would hope they are all being treated with compassion and support. Gabby is one who has publicly acknowledged her personal struggles with mental illness and an eating disorder. I have personally never heard or read of her indicating that was due to a coaching environment. And I do NOT believe any coach or federation should get a pass if they are in any way complicit in ignoring the possibilities in the underbelly of the sport. I understand that very innocent comments, made to many skaters, could be taken to heart by one who then takes it too far. As we have come to understand eating disorders more, I would hope that the tough questions are asked. I hope qualified nutritionists are advising and working with young skaters along with their off ice specialists. If there is a problem in the sport - who should be the ones to bring it to light and expose it? Why do we need to bash the brave ones who do? Kiira does not just state concern about Russia - she clearly states issues with Finland and the US. I am Canadian/American and hope that any and all bad practices that may be going on are exposed and dealt with.

Alina Zagitova's new show number.

alt video, better q. on Rus. Channel 1 (let it load).

It is dedicated to, a tribute to, their dance/ballet trainer, Mrs. Shalashova, Daniil Gleikh's mother, who died a months ago. Daniil says it is an honor for him that Alina accepted his idea to capture Mrs. Shalashova's life - she passed away, but she left something behind.

P.S. Short translation of Alina's comments to the video:

Gabby has always had Lee Barkell as her main coach. If she came out and pointed fingers at Orser for dietary restrictions, I would totally sideeye him.

How is Kihira fragile? And you said ALL Japanese skaters, and right now you've only listed one that might qualify. Backtracking much?

Gabby was at TCC, where Orser was the Chief Coach and a supervisor. Just like Eteri is at her club.

Orser absolutely neglected his own Canadian skaters, to engage in "fame chase" with foreign skaters and Federations.

Orser is guilty of neglect on a very serious condition of a top Canadian skater in his own club and domain.

Kihira when officially transferring from Jr. to Senior, was the same age (plus/minus few months) as most Russian girls who transfer fr jr. to sr. (including Eteri's).

Kihira entered Seniors with a sensation of the 3A.

NOBODY had hysterics about "danger of high difficulty jumps" or the fact that she is a "teenager" ready to compete with "mature female skaters".

NOBODY made a big deal out of "young teenage Kihira" beating older Zagitova, on the contrary - people cheered for her and wished she would beat Zagitova.

NOBODY YELLED - look Kihira is youngest, smallest in size and shortest, of the other two more mature and taller/wider girls!

NOBODY objected to Asada skating at 14-15 with seniors. She was not able to skate at the Worlds that year, and people were upset, saying "if she skated, she would have beat Slutskaya (who was over 20).

This is effing bias against the Russian successful skaters.

I suggest you look at Gabby’s profile before claiming she’s always had Barkell for her coach. She started to train at TCC only in 2015 and had had a number of coaches before. And as long as she doesn’t point fingers where she got her eating disorder, I wouldn’t risk any conjectures.
Though I guess it’s not you I am arguing with...

So...... Orser had her for 3+ under his supervision..... wow! that's even worst than i thought.. Gabby had "issues" all this time, and nobody saw it or helped her?

We need to investigate, and have a decent reporter address this story.

^edit: gabbys main coach at TCC was Barkell. OP was trying to link her eating disorder to Orser.
Brian Orser was right there with her, same rink, kiss and cry, coaching her along...... i guess only when Gabby was doing well. Looks like when she became a problem, he stepped away. right when she needed help..

(to earlier issue raised): No Kamila Valieva is not in a cast, not damaged by evil forces...

This is not about a particular coach, federation or country. I recall a number of years ago some rather alarming comments were quoted about female Chinese pairs girls. Q. Pang was very thin and thus questions were asked about her. She has since married and had a child - so one hopes there was no problem there. Akiko S. from Japan had to step away from the sport to seek help for an eating disorder. And on and on it goes.... I just really object to those who label anyone who tries to shine a light on this as being motivated by "envy and jealousy".

The above situations became a one-time mention. Nobody remembers it each time a new Chinese pair or Japanese girl come out to skate. On the contrary, such newcomers are greeted with excitement... ;)

Who cares enough to be envious and jealous of Russian skaters winning? The hypernationalism around their ladies skaters is bizarre. We are discussing sports, not an arms race.
People like you make it an "arms' race"... Eteri's girls are winning, putting on beautiful and difficult programmes.... And some people immediately find something shitty to say about them or the group.

It's not "nationalism", some people do the same about Alysa Liu...... just can't stand it when someone is head above the rest - if i or my favorite can't do it, then the ones who can must be doing something evil.

The current Pope of Rome, who is a blimey socialist, recently ran around saying "weaken the strong, empower the weak". Obviously some "weak" like it... ;).

Can we get back to talking about RUSSIAN SKATERS in this thread? Go start another thread to talk about Alysa Liu, Kiira Korpi, Gabby, etc. The whole abuse/eating disorder thing is a discussion that will never end and brings out the worst of all posters who are never going to concede their point. Geez, I'd rather read another 10 pages about the greatness of Mishina/Galliamov than more of this.
