It’s not a surprise for anyone. Russian team for Worlds has alsways been determined not only by Nationals results , but also by results at Euros and Russian Cup Final (is usually held in the end of February).
Also, in Liza’s case there’s no doubt that she deserves a spot on the Worlds team this year (if she recovers and stay healthy).

I can see these tough Russian ladies seeing Mishin's comment, if they even saw it, and brushing it off and will just continue to train and prepare so they can have the sort of skate that will make them seem more undeniable. They made it this far and don't think a comment like that will affect them. Now, if they skate very well and still get replaced, not sure what will happen afterwards but right now I think they're in game mode.

Mishin's comment was a) misquoted and b) taken out of context. He said "after Europeans, for the National team, at least one or maybe 2 skaters maybe replaced". He did not say "ladies singles", or named any of the 4 disciplines, where skaters can be replaced. After this interview (and confusion that followed) few journalists called him in person, and he said he did not specify in which group skaters maybe replaced. He made a general statement about a common practice, that not all skaters from a European team will make it to World team.

This is what Mishin said:
«Федерация заверила, что минимум один, а может быть, два участника чемпионата Европы будут заменены. Их место (в составе сборной на чемпионат мира. — RT) займут запасные», — цитирует Мишина «Комсомольская правда».
Translation:
The Federation have assured, that minimum one, perhaps two participants from the European Championship will be replaced. Their place on the world team may be taken by the alternatives.

And there is no guarantee Tuk will be fully recovered. Pneumonia can take up to three months to fully recover energy and strength. They all need to focus on the task at hand and let worlds take care of itself

3 axel was definitely a <, but I am excited to see her try the jump.
I am not so excited because she posted 3A on the internet about two years ago and yet she still haven’t tried it at competition. So posting it again now makes me think that it won’t get to competition ice anyway.

It depends if she or anyone from her team posted the video, if not she is practising the jump, trying to get consistency. It is a slow game, she may unveil it some point.

Quite honestly, I don’t have a clue who posted it and what the purpose was, but this is not a girl who posts something that she intends to use soon. Otherwise she would have already used it in competition.

Given the state of the rest of the European ladies, if they don't all medal, they might all be replaced. I would do that if I were in charge of the RusFed.

I thought you were crazy at first. But after thinking about it, sending Medvedeva, Tuktamysheva, and either Tarusina or Gubanova to Worlds is about as reliable as sending the Euros team to Worlds.

Samodurova said in the post GPF interview that she can do 3A on the floor, tried to jump with longe-harness on the ice, have not done it in a long time on the ice, did not want to even risk before Nationals. She thinks if one wants to beat Kihira, one must learn 3A, including herself and she plans to start perfecting it. Here is one interview addressing all this.

Interview with Alexander Uspenski, who is one of Maxim Kovtun's coaches, about his career and its early end, about becoming a coach and his work. There is the Russian version on the Federation website and the English version on figureskating-online.com.

I remember Alexander Uspenski very well. He was a promising skater in the first decade of 2000, but unfortunately he never really realized his potential. But I'm glad that he found his place and has success as a coach.

Thank you for posting english version. I read the russian one yesterday, some interesting stuff he said (suites my logic, at least).

I remember Uspenski in 2007, in his "stripped down version" of Bukin Sr. costume... :D

In the current interview, i appreciate him saying the following:

Q: Did you ever regret that you ended your career so early?
A: That would not make sense. With this understanding and in relation to the situation overall I left on time. Probably, in the condition I was in, I would not have been able to get any higher. Maybe I didn’t have enough motivation, not enough drive. Probably, at that time there was not a person next to me that would have taught me, shown me the way how to achieve goals, to fight and not to stop in front of barriers. As I understand now, I would have needed that. But I’m not saying this to blame someone, on the contrary, I am grateful to all coaches, all people that life had led me to. It is just that after a certain time you start to understand that it is one thing to learn to be a good athlete, well trained and a completely different thing to be a champion and strive for being one. This is the same in any sphere of life, if business or politics. There are professionals and there are champions and winners. And that’s a completely different story.

This is just great, he knew what he was lacking, and he recognizes there are differences in people, their potentials, abilities and place in life.

Plushenko's show on Red Square https://vk.com/video-24199209_456262931?og=1 - Moscow winter festival “Journey to Christmas”. On January 11, 12 and 13, Olympic champions, Evgeni Plushenko, Adeline Sotnikova and Yulia Lipnitskaya, will skate on the ice of the GUM rink.
Really amazing place and show . "Queens on Ice" when Yulia and Adelina skated there.

It was a livestream.

Thank you for posting the video, i saw it at night on Junior TV live feed, but the stream was not saved.

This is probably one of my favorite programme/choreo/concept this season. Gleikh and his ballerina-mother Shalashova did a fantastic job. New costume is perfect too!

The story behind this painting is "fluidity, flexibility, adaptability and instability" of female nature (standing on a rolling ball) and "solidity, strength, feet on the ground" of male's nature, who is sitting on a solid cube firmly planted on the ground and can't be shaken. :D Strangely enough, Picasso sold this painting to Gertrude Stein...

She's amazing. Such clarity to her movement. :swoon:
She has it in several dance styles. she can do ballet, jazz, modern, cabaret, folk, and it all looks good. I can't wait for her to start skating internationally.

.. and she is working on the 3A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLheTWp69to

(for russian speakers, she posted a 40 min. personal video of herself and another girl from the rink, where she answers questions, tells a few stories "from inside the rink" who is friends with whom, some "dating info" and what-else... :p ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t30EyzYRvD4

Poor guy. I hope he's ok. I am afraid, however, that because he did indeed push himself so hard and for so long, he may have set himself up for some chronic back injury/pain. Wishing him full and fast healing.

She turns 13 in April and will be junior eligible next season

This is the skater/program I happened upon when I clicked on the live stream link. She does seem to have the Eteri jump technique, which is somewhat concerning. She will be age-eligible for the 2020 Olympic season.

She is a stunning skater, and I remember her epic program to The Swan so well.
