Finnish skating news 2017/18

Don't know more than her interviews, but she definitely gets more ice time than that, as do other top ladies. She comes from wealth so if ice time is limited her coach said she buys it. But of course for example I wouldn't learn double axel even if I lived with Eteri Tutbaridze in an ice rink, so it's not just that..
Nice to meet you a new person interested in Finnish figure skating.

I live in Nashville, Tennessee. Emmi Peltonen was born in Nashville when her Dad played for our NHL team, the Nashville Predators. Our local newspaper (the Tennessean/USA Today) is sending a reporter and photographer to Korea to cover the Olympics. I emailed the reporter the figure skating tidbit about Emmi. He promptly responded that he was very excited to know this. He told me that Emmi is the one and only Tennessee connection to the 2018 Olympics and he wants to locate her and write the story:D.
Emmi Peltonen got her own article in this Tennessee media outlet (eta: thanks to @jkl :)): Born in Nashville, daughter of original Predators [hockey] player figure skating in Winter Olympics

German Eurosport commentators are absolutely in love with Peltonen. They were gushing about her choreography all through the second to last group and even into the first and felt she deserved a much higher score.

That said, I liked her, too. I hope she can gain more confidence and land those jumps!

Viveca's 3lutz-3toe looked amazing at Challenge Cup: good height, attack, and distance covered. :respec: She even got equal GOE to Wakaba for this element. Unfortunately, the rest of the jumping passes were kind of scary and all over the place. I'm optimistic both her and Sula can end their seasons well.

I didn't watch the jr men yesterday but Roman ended up in 35th. Looking at the protocol, he had a popped & invalidated combo and a fall in 3Lz plus some lost spin levels. He did rotate & land his 3A (with some -GOE) though, which is nice.

I watched it on the Stream of the Penguin Lord. The axel was actually quite nice. My theory is that he was so surprised to land a decent one that he lost nerve for all the rest. Which is quite typical.

Yeah, sounds like a very plausible explanation. File under "valuable learning experience". (Also lol @ "Stream of the Penguin Lord")

And it's not like Finland has a large horde of jr boys in need of JGP spots next season, so Roman placing that low and Finland probably getting 1 entry in 3 events is okay in my books. Especially since Roman himself is aging out of juniors (born in Aug '98)

^ ...and with Sofia not qualifying for the FS but placing in top 30 in SP probably means that in ladies, Finland will get 1 entry in 4 JGP events. I think.

Viveca is born in Jan '99, so I think she's aging out juniors too, like Roman? And same with Jenni Saarinen (March '99). Whereas Emmi (Nov '99) could skate in JGPs next season if she chooses to? (I'm really bad comprehending the age rule and people's ages in general lol)

Viveca Lindfors (born 1999, 16. in the Worlds) has also siblings who are promising skaters:
- Monica (born 2000, earlier a single skater) got Senior Ice Dance bronze in Nationals with Juho Pirinen
- Fanny (born 2004) is the Finnish Champion in Novice Ladies
- Matias won the National Final of Debs Boys
