Honestly, Argentina was lucky that it wasn’t red and they didn’t get a 3rd goal against them.

Croatia has played very well. Argentina has been terrible and Messi hasn’t show up for his national team as usual.

They did not have the easiest time in South American qualifying and their defense is a drive. I mean, they’re still dragging out Mascherano who is basically retired and playing in China.

Argentina aren't out yet. It all comes down to tomorrow's match between Iceland and Nigeria, the 3rd matchday (Tuesday?), and the final goal difference if they win against Nigeria on Tuesday. Based on GD, they have a disadvantage, but they're not totally out of it yet. Croatia is in. Everyone else still has a chance.

Group B is interesting. All we know is that France is in (predictably) and Peru is out. Australia aren't out yet, but they have to win against Peru and hope that Denmark lose against France (possible).

What a dreadful display by Argentina. Messi was invisible again. And the referee was terrible, totally inconsistent with foul selection and bookings and letting things get way out of hand. I remember him being the same way in the last World Cup.

Depending on Germany v Sweden on Saturday, it's possible that neither of the previous finalists make it out of the group stage. That would be nuts.

I haven't seen any of the matches today as I was out and about all day. But the Argentina result was a little unexpected. I will hopefully see the highlights but it seems like Croatia really played well. Yes Argentina can still advance but Iceland must feel confident they can steal that 2nd place - and wouldn't that be amazing if they did!!

I think I prefer the French commentary on TF1 to what we're getting on FOX. They are hilarious. On that howler by the Argentine keeper, they were gasping and screaming the instant the kick was muffed. "OOH LA LA! It is catastrophic! CATASTROPHIC! What is he doing??"

So apparently we need to beat Peru and for France to beat Denmark. I feel like both those things could happen, but given what we've seen so far, maybe not.

Exactly!! Argentina could well survive in their group - and there is still the possibility that one of Portugal and Spain could also not make it out of their group. It all depends on how the last group games go and if you have a chance of moving onto the knock out phase then you need to do all you can ensure to get the result you need first - regardless of what the other teams are doing. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the groups do over the next few days - this has been a pretty unpredictable WC so far.

Went to Portugal vs Morocco game earlier this week. The organisation is great as usual in Russia. The match was rather so if Russia is playing them in the next round they can stand a chance. A slim one though (never underestimate Cristiano Ronaldo).

I plan on going to one of the fan fests this weekend. I need to get fans to participate in the campaign against racism in football that the NGO I work for launched ahead of the World Cup.

@oleada if your brother is still in Russia and is willing to participate (pose for a picture mainly), that would be great. I can PM you the details.

I am seeing the 2nd half of the Iceland- Nigeria game and if Nigeria play like this they could beat Argentina - and their fate will be in their own hands. I was expecting Iceland to take this game to Nigeria - and it has been the exact opposite!!

Why didn't this Nigeria turn up the other night against Croatia!?!

ETA: And Iceland sky a penalty attempt - they are not going to win this - or even equalise!!

So, Costa Rica are out. No one else in group E is in. It will an intereday matchday 3.
Group D is cray cray. The current runner ups have to win against Nigeria in order to advance. If they draw or lose, they're out. And if they win, they have to hope that Iceland don't win against Croatia.
