DWTS S26: All-Athletes Edition! (i.e. the DWTS thread for NOT yammering about what happened 24 years ago)

Dead. :rofl::rofl::rofl:

If the judging continues to be fair (and hopefully the voting comes in) both Adam and Mirai should make it to finals, although, alas, I know that the best dancers don't always make it - which is why I'm worried for Mirai.

Seeing Jason and Nathan in the audience, as I said elsewhere, was a real treat! I know the DWTS producers were considering Nathan for the show - I wonder if a spot was offered to him and he declined or if they decided to just go with Tonya, Adam, and Mirai? Also, I wonder if Jason and Ashley have ever been offered a spot for the show? With their performance qualities, both would seem like they'd be naturals for DWTS!

I think Mirai was the best.

Adam should have been maybe one point behind Mirai, but by far the 2nd best.

Tonya's quick step was clunky but in time and executed cleanly . . . It had the journeyman performer quality of a Nancy Kerrigan.

She should have had higher heels on her boots and used the bear more sparingly. Then I’d have her placed higher than Adam.

Something cute about Adam’s dance. He actually instagram living with the photo he had at the beginning of the dance. The person he passed it too recorded the rest of the dance. It’s on DWTS instagram for a limited time.

That said, Adam wasn’t as good this week. I think it was a combo of the song, the lack of connection with the audience, and last week was so good that this feels a little boring. It was a good dance, but I wish it was done differently.

Yeah...the bear. He was fun, and I get that it is a show, but I am just not a fan of props, extra people in the dances, or anything other than just the dancing.

IMO Tonya's quickstep was nowhere near Adam's. It was executed cleanly, but that's the best I can say for it. I thought Chris was better than she was (though a bit stiff, he moved well). Adam and Mirai were both wonderful. Josh was a bit of a disappointment this week, after having such a great start. I enjoyed Kareem, who really looked like he was having fun. Jennie was... awkward. I would have sent her home instead of Arike, though Gleb was doing most of the work in their dance.

Team dances were both pretty heavy on the cheese, but Team Football did a much better job (and kudos to Adam for his ball handling skills, LOL). Team Tennis was sabotaged a bit by the awful song choice, however. Cringeworthy.

It’s not so much screwing, as it making it harder for her to make the finals. Mirai has the disadvantage of being a ringer. It makes it harder for normal viewers to vote for her because they think she has an unfair advantage. Lots of young ladies with great dancing skills have been booted before the finale.

What it takes for a female ringer to make the finale is to be
1. A devoted mother,
2. middle aged,
3. have a huge fan base of millions,
4. have a non traditional body,
5. or a super popular pro.

Please enlighten me: what is a ringer?

I thought Mirai was fabulous but if skaters shouldn't win worlds with Candyman then dancers shouldn't win with It is a Small World. :P

Tonight I was watching The Voice, and some of the singers were handed pretty tough material. The difference between contestants who stayed or were eliminated, was if they made us believe what they are doing.

For a second as Bruno complimented Mirai on being the embodiment of a fairy tale princess, and she answered, referencing Meryl Davis, "Actually, the real queen is sitting right over there," I thought the camera was going to pan to Adam.

All kidding aside. Nagasu, Rippon and Harding were terrific tonight. I could not have been more proud of them.

Haven't yet watched the show or dances, so I come here, all ignorant about what's been going down, click on the thread...

LOL WUT

Sounds like I'm in for a treat when I finally catch up with this week's numbers!

Cheetah girl(I can't remember her real name) was one of the earliest ringers.

This short season sucks.

It’s really unfortunate that this season is so freaking short. With the cast that they’ve assembled, we are really missing out on a ton of potential great dances due to the fast schedule. Triple elimination next week? Good lord.

(That said, the football group dance was fab)

Last night, I was wishing that Adam, Mirai, Josh, and Chris were on regular length seasons because I would like to see how they progress. Even Tonya, even though I am not all in on her rehabilitation arc.

I'm pretty sure that dancers don't choose their own music. I can understand Jennie vetoing a song that she felt was inappropriate but IIRC that seldom happens.

I think Mirai, Adam, & Chris are the best so far. But IMO Lindsey is the best & the most imaginative choreographer. Her dance with Kareem was so entertaining. I am really happy that Jenna & Alan got their own celebrities & I think both are rising to the occasion.

I’m going to guess at everyone’s dances next week.

Adam: Waltz and Tango
Tonya: Cha Cha and Paso Doble
Mirai: Jive and Tango

My reasoning is that they have all had specific styles and the show will want to show a contrast.

I read that Mirai's music would be instrumental only. I am seldom impressed with Ray Chu singers so I though her dance would have been even more stunning without them.

Mirai was lovely and totally deserved her marks, but IMO the best dance delivery last night was by Adam and Jenna. It was a very difficult dance and he was so precise!

I thought the finale would be between Adam and Josh, but Josh didn't impress this week and with such a short season and so many eliminated each week... he might be in trouble next week. It really depends on the fan base. I just hope Mirai makes the finale - I used all my votes for her. Thought she was fab last night, by far my favorite!

I hate that this is such a short season! Mirai was my favorite last night. She was so beautiful. I really loved Adam as well. He had a lot of content and everything seemed really clean. I hope to see both of them in the final.

Joining the week 2 train...

Good for Arike and Kareem for finishing on a high note, although I would've preferred Arike staying and Jennie going home. I'm not that familiar with Jennie but she must have a sizeable fan base voting for her...

Mirai and Adam were my favorites as far as the actual dancing is concerned, but I did find Tonya's number enjoyable too... Although I agree with @Inessence, the bear element was indeed somewhat overbearing. (Sorry, can't resist a bad pun.)

I was pleasantly surprised by the team dances. Given how little time the teams had to practice their routines as a team, I think it's a small miracle that we got 2 entirely watchable pieces instead of 2 embarrassing messes. The football one had me actually flapping my hands and cackling joyously! (I guess I'm just a sucker for cheesy 70s disco themed programs done with high energy and questionable afros and flashy costumes, because watching Piper&Paul's disco SD always has me flapping & cackling as well.)
