DWTS S26: All-Athletes Edition! (i.e. the DWTS thread for NOT yammering about what happened 24 years ago)

GMA teaser for week 2

Looks like they have moved on from the attempted Adam vs. Mirai "rivalry" narrative after it became obvious there wasn't even a fake rivalry/drama there, just hugs and kisses and mutual support, and now they're trying to drum up Adam vs. Tonya. Coincidentally or not, Brennan's new Adam/DWTS article plays into that, too.

I hope this doesn't mean that Mirai gets screwed and blatantly underscored tonight, but we'll see.

I could've skipped the first part of Brennan's article and just read when she begins writing about Adam and his views on DTWS and how much fun he's having even if he's tired. I don't think Mirai will get screwed, the script for DWTS can and does change in a heartbeat and the producers could decide another celebrity deserves the brush off more.

That might have been the best, single interview of Adam's I've seen post-Olympics (it was taped on March 9 at the end of his first NYC media tour) due the good rapport between him and the interviewer, as well as the length of time they had to chat (30+ mins.). He answered the serious questions thoughtfully and there were some fun, humorous moments between them as well. Thanks for posting the link here, @essence_of_soy.

ETA that I summarized a few highlights in Adam's fan thread back in March:
... the interviewer did make Adam guffaw at the 23-min. mark on the topic of shipping him with Tyler Oakley: "... There was something about you where, just as a viewer and as a fan and I'd never met you before, we had no personal connection... I just thought, 'I want Adam to be happy'... it was a weird reaction to you!"

The story he told about how he came out to his mom (at 13-min. mark) and his first grade anecdote were touching.

Adam on the way he chose to come out publicly (after being inspired by Ashley's speaking out against Russia's anti-gay propaganda law before the Sochi Olympics):
"I came to U.S. Figure Skating ... I said 'I want to put in the [October 2015 SKATING magazine] article that I'm gay, but I don't want the article to be about that, but you're asking me about my story and my journey and I want to put that in there.' I wanted to do it with them because I wanted to show young kids and other people within skating that they [USFS] were supportive."

It’s not so much screwing, as it making it harder for her to make the finals. Mirai has the disadvantage of being a ringer. It makes it harder for normal viewers to vote for her because they think she has an unfair advantage. Lots of young ladies with great dancing skills have been booted before the finale.

What it takes for a female ringer to make the finale is to be
1. A devoted mother,
2. middle aged,
3. have a huge fan base of millions,
4. have a non traditional body,
5. or a super popular pro.

As you can see, Adam is a shoo in because of his fan base. Tonya is getting the sympathy edit and I expect to see her son on soon so she can shore up the ‘mother’ vote. Football players typically get lots of support. So Mirai could potentially lose to the Luger unless her devoted fans make a plan this week to make dozens of accounts and make a massive effort to keep her on the show.

Is the elimination based on last week's votes? Just wondering if I have to lock in my votes before the end of the show.

I also saw Nathan Chen in the audience in the background just before commercial break. :)

I did not think Josh was that great in this first dance tonight. I would have liked to see more footwork, and there was something off with his arms and his energy, IMO.

(Carrie Ann / Rashad Jennings-guest judge / Len / Bruno)

Josh & Sharna: 7 7 8 8 = 30
Jennie & Keo: 6 7 7 6 = 26
Kareem & Lindsay: 7 7 6 6 = 26
