DWTS S26: All-Athletes Edition! (i.e. the DWTS thread for NOT yammering about what happened 24 years ago)

And that's not annoying? Imo all songs sung by Smurfs, 7 Dwarfs, fairies, Simpsons, or any other animated figures should be banned from all airwaves. They're always squeaky.

That song is a parody of It's a Small World, which is why I posted it. I'm not actually serious! Well kinda ... I wouldn't be upset if someone danced to the Land of Chocolate or Dr. Zaius.

Totally disagree with lumping in the music from The Simpsons. It's not always squeaky (the "Small World" parody is for obvious reasons, but other pieces like from their parody of A Streetcar Named Desire are definitely not), it's not cutesy, it's legitimately funny IMO, and it's well-written. Some of the same people who did music for The Simpsons wrote songs for Waiting for Guffman, which I think is pretty much the funniest movie I've ever seen.

As someone who can't stand Disney, generally doesn't like things that are squeaky or cutesy, but does really love the first few seasons of The Simpsons and the music, I must strongly stand up for this! I haven't been so offended since Tonya was cast on Dancing!!!

I would love Dr. Zaius or "Rock Me Amadeus" or a mix of both. Also, Dr. Zaius is another very clear example of how Simpsons music is not all squeaky.

I wouldn't know. I've never watched The Simpson. That youtube bit is all I've seen of them.

You have an awfully strong opinion and seem to be willing to make broad generalizations for someone who hasn’t seen it.

Oh, Skating Lesson did a recap... This and That: DWTS Week 1

I'm not a regular TSL listener/watcher but I've been expecting the inevitable Adam backlash and BINGO! I'm only 4 mins in and Dave has already initiated the concern trolling about how the show is "making" Adam "as stereotypically gay as possible" and now Jonathan is saying Adam's persona is "almost offensive", "caricature" and "farce". What a surprise that TSL's favorite sassy gay guest magically turns into an (almost) offensive gay caricature the moment he steps on the dance floor on national TV!

(I can't be bothered to sit through the whole 45 min thing so I don't know what's their take on Mirai or Tonya.)

I watched the youtube clip which was presented as being better than Small World. I was saying that clip seemed just as boring & squeaky.

I tried to watch The Simpsons when it 1st came out. I found the boy (forgot his name) rude & the father really stupid so I turned it off after about 5 or so minutes. Life is too short to waste my time watching stuff that rots my brain. Sorry if that offends you. Do you watch shows that don't interest you?

Dave said that Mirai "wasn't bright", "wasn't as good as Adam, Meryl, Kristi, or Charlie-and was about the level of Nancy Kerrigan", "wasn't famous enough to be on DWTS, so they must be getting her for cheap, unless they cast her for train-wreck potential after her olympics interview", and "talks like she is still 12 years old". They also said that Mirai is intentially making digs at Ashley when she calls Adam her best friend. Everyone said that her body looked great though, and talked about Carrie Ann being tough on her.

If you're not a typical TSL listener, it's pretty typical of what they say most of the other time. But I have noticed that Dave specifically has been harsher with Adam and Mirai as of late. Maybe they stopped interacting with him like a lot of the rest of the skating world. I know that Dave has talked about texting Mirai in the past. He seems to have a habit of turning on people hard when his access dries up. Dave was also criticizing Adam last month for not sounding clever enough or being quick enough on the Andy Cohen show (like he's supposed to be on all of the time? Isn't saying that just revealing that they are the people who expect Adam to be a caricature all of the time?). I remember them specifically saying last year that the USFS was not capitalizing enough on Adam being OUT and that they should have him at gay pride parades and on Drag race, so the critique doesn't really jibe with me.

Right. Thanks for the recap of the recap!

It's bad. They're just plain nasty. I consider it 45 minutes I won't get back.

I had a similar reaction to the Simpsons when it first came out. Then again, it's pretty common for me to hate ep1 of almost every tv show as they are generally shaky and awkward. Luckily for me, I generally give shows a second chance and some of my all time favs are shows I hated the first time I watched. Although they've had several episodes that were shear brilliance, I still find it hard to rewatch early Simpsons seasons.

Dave/TSL just can't get over the fact that he will not ever get the fame and attention the real skaters get for excellent skating, as his own skating is lousy, so he compensates and tries to place himself in a superior position by being a loud-mouth with questionable sensationalist comments...

Or "See My Vest"!! I also love the Emmy-winning "We Put The Spring In Springfield"

Also known as a tired, never-was-anything, never-will-be-anything drama queen. :blah:

One of my favorite Simpson songs that would be perfect for the show is Senior Burns.

I love how this thread has been taken over by people listing the best Simpsons songs. Many of my favorites have been listed (Dr. Zaius, See My Vest, A Streetcar Named Desire) but a few more are the Monorail Song, We Do (Stonecutter’s Song), and We’re Sending Our Love Down the Well. Although I agree that the Senor Burns one would be the best choice for DWTS.

So anyway .... is the theme for Week 2 supposed to be Disney week, or does Mirai just happened to be dancing to Its a Small World? The rest of those songs don't seem very Disney to me. Do we know what the theme is supposed to be for the dances? I know the Team Dances are tennis and football theme.

Not likely. Here's Week 2 for all couples.

Here's Adam's Quickstep music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtLaGXGUkXg

I'm not sure that they will have any themes for each week with such a short run. (Although I wouldn't count out Disney for week 3, given that ABC is owned by Disney.) Maybe Mirai's music will be the sole nod to Mickey and company.

I would be watching DTWS in real time but I’m still in Israel.

I’ve rooted for Mirai for ten years but having watched the clips....go, Redskins!

I'm not a DWTS watcher, and did watch the three skaters on youtube. I've never heard of this artist, but like it!! Thanks for introducing me to someone new!
The football player Josh Norman and the luger were good as well.

Here is Tonya and Sasha doing a repeat performance on Live with Kelly and Ryan.

... Tonya's outfit is average clothes but definitely more flattering. The dance is still good. The little interview at the end is good.

I think she looks lovely, and must say I am surprised at how well she can dance. :)

I would chose Adam and his witty rejoinders over Dave's viperous rage any day.

Lease even made time to mock Kirk's new podcast series, too.

Andy Cohen's brand of spilled tea isn't for everyone. However, Jess Cagle's interview with Adam was excellent.

Dave was mean-spiritied to all 3 dtws skating contestants. He also took shots at Mariah Bell, and made fun of Disney On Ice (one of the few skating shows left). He isn't impressed with the cruise ships or Holiday on Ice (Europe) either. La is just plain cruel. The only dtws stars she liked were the luger and the football player.

TSL wasn't any better when Jenny was there though. She said some mean-spirited stuff as well. I feel like Dave did to Jenny what Johny does to Tara- the guys are so nasty and mean-spirited, and the female cohosts stoop to their level and become mean as well. Johny also has no right to make fun of anyone for restarts/costume mishaps because he had a few of his own. Peggy at least tried to be nice when Dick got too mean- although if any Russian skater looked like they had a chance to beat Michelle ( usually Irina, but sometimes Maria B and Elena S), both commentators would start nitpicking. I wasn't a Maria fan, but I was rooting for her in 99 after Peggy said the only way Michelle could lose was to leave the building.

Brennan needs to go away. Usa needs to hire someone to cover skating that actually knows something about the sport. Tonya had an abusive mom and Jeff was an abusive husband. I don't think Tonya should of been banned for not taking Jeff and Shawn seriously. No one took Shawn seriously. I also think it would be hard to report that because she was still living with Jeff at the time, he didn't say who, when, or how, and they never did anything to Jeff when she did call for help when he abused her other than issue restraining orders. He also once threatened to break Tonya's legs and end her career ( Brennan conveniently forgets that fact). Jeff was using Tonya as a "cash cow" so he didn't have to work himself.
